Sunrise on the Reaping, set 24 years before the events of the first film, had already generated buzz well before its huge casting news, largely fuelled by the popular theory that Suzanne Collins penned the new novel as a tongue-in-cheek punishment for fans who had been sharing President Snow thirst traps across social media. Picture: Instagram
If you haven't read the book, Maysilee might be a fresh name, but she's a character you're bound to fall for fast. Picture: Instagram
'HELP, why is he hot?!' was just one of the many buzzing reactions flooding social media when Kelvin Harrison Jr. was announced as Wiress's partner in crime, the brilliant Beetee Latier. Known for his sharp intellect and quiet intensity in roles like Luce and The Queen's Gambit, Harrison Jr. is an inspired choice to bring to life the tech genius who famously rigs a deadly potato trap. Spoiler alert. I can't help but wonder, is this round two of Hunger Games thirst traps? And if so, will Suzanne Collins 'punish' us again with another amazing book? He's expected to earn between $500,000 and $1 million for the role. Picture: Supplied
Beetee was originally played by Jeffrey Wright, who is just an Oscar away from an EGOT, having been nominated as Best Actor in the 2023 Academy Awards for American Fiction. Picture: Supplied
Newcomers Louella McCoy (L) and Lou Lou (R) have me absolutely terrified - they're so tiny! Fans were quick to point out that Molly McCann bears a striking resemblance to a young Katniss, and if you know, you know. What a sweetheart (cue the tears). And then there was Iona Bell's reveal minutes after Louella's. Fans joked it was as swift as the Capitol was to replace her. Absolutely SCREAMING. Picture: Instagram
Wyatt Callow was definitely not what I was expecting! Picture: Instagram
Ben Wang first broke out in 2023 with Disney's American Born Chinese, and he's recently been cast as the lead in Karate Kid: Legends. Beyond that, there's not much known about this rising star, except that he's stepping into the role of my favourite oddball from the reaping that I never expected to root for. Picture: Supplied
'That's kinda crazy and cool that she looks like Rachel.' Picture: Supplied
Fans will know that Lenore Dove Baird, who will be portrayed by Gossip Girl reboot star Whitney Peak, isn't exactly the Covey you should get attached to, but that won't stop us. Picture: Instagram
With whispers linking her to her possible niece, Lucy Gray, I'm fully prepared to catch every haunting similarity, and to have my heart shattered all over again in the process. Picture: Supplied
'Please, why did this actually scare me.' The most unhinged and best reveal so far might just be the latest one, with the marketing team pulling a fast one on fans who were so deep in the world of Panem they momentarily forgot they hadn't actually been reaped. If it weren't limited to the US, I'd volunteer as tribute. Picture: Instagram
We are absolutely sat waiting to see who the next A-lister reveal will be. Picture: Facebook

‘No one would ever believe this': Bomb squad called in after Ellen Pompeo detained at US airport

Ellen Pompeo has revealed she was held 'for an hour' and had the bomb squad called on her while travelling in the US. The Grey's Anatomy star set off alarms while going through airport security in March because of something she had purchased from the trendy, upscale Los Angeles grocery store, Erewhon. 'I had a bag of sunflower seeds, like organic sunflower seeds from Erewhon, so they were probably the most expensive sunflower seeds money can buy,' Pompeo told New York-based magazine Travel + Leisure. The 55-year-old is one of highest-paid television actresses. She revealed in 2018 she had signed a deal to earn more than $20 million a year with Grey's Anatomy. Pompeo spoke openly about her pay to inspire young women in Hollywood to fight for themselves. But this year, her expensive taste for sunflower seeds almost made her miss a flight. 'They literally held me for an hour, and they brought the bomb squad in,' Pompeo said of the March incident. 'And I was like, what is happening? Is this a joke? They said it was most likely a chemical on the packaging of these super expensive, fancy, organic, clean sunflower seeds. My protein on the plane!' She wasn't allowed to just throw them away as the bomb squad needed to assess the bag, the publication reported. 'I almost missed the flight,' Pompeo said. 'It was really like no one would ever believe this. I was texting my publicist saying, 'I might not get on this plane, and you're never gonna guess why.'' Security checks at US airports have garnered much attention in recent months amid Donald Trump's 'enhanced vetting' and cases of tourists being denied entry on arrival, and at times, strip searched and thrown in prison. Pompeo also gave Travel + Leisure insight into what it's like flying as a celebrity, aside from snacking on sunflower seeds. The actress revealed she wears a hat and tries not to talk on the plane, even resorting to using sign language with her kids, because people recognise her voice. 'The minute I open my mouth, everybody turns,' she said. The destination she is most eager to travel to is Japan. 'That's one place that they all really are excited to go, and we haven't gone yet,' said the mum of three. Japan is currently a big favourite among Australians too, giving beloved Bali a run for its money.

Ocean Alley return with their fifth album, Love Balloon

Ocean Alley are finally locking in their return with their fifth studio album, Love Balloon . It sure feels like it's been an age since we've heard from the Northern Beaches six piece beyond the odd track, so it's exciting to know that their next big project sits just on the other side of winter. Love Balloon will be with us on September 19. We've had our first taste of the new Ocean Alley record with 'Tangerine' and 'Left Of The Dealer' (their first releases since 2022's Low Altitude Living ), and now we have another morsel through the album's title track, 'Love Balloon'. This new one sees the band expanding on their infectious grooves with bright, soulful and deliriously loved-up lyricism. Watch this one get immediately added to wedding playlists right across the board. With their fifth album, Ocean Alley set out to explore all facets of love beyond what we project to the public – they're going warts and all. "Not just the cinematic kind where you're falling head over heels," keyboardist and vocalist Lach Galbraith said. "The full spectrum; joy, hurt, discomfort and disappointment. Let's call it the river of love – whether it's with a partner, a friend, or family, you'll never know when it'll get deep, go shallow, or suddenly change course. "It's such a force that you have to just surrender to its current." Ocean Alley are heading off to chase the sun on a North American tour in July and returning again in October, with a couple of cheeky shows in Europe and the UK around the time the album drops. But we bet the call of the Australian summer will lure them back home soon enough.

Three sisters who vanished while visiting homeless dad are found dead

The three young sisters who vanished while visiting their troubled and homeless father have been found dead, police confirmed Tuesday — as they continued hunting the dad for their kidnapping and murders. The bodies of the Decker sisters — Paityn, 9, Evelyn, 8, and Olivia, 5 — were found late Monday close to their father's truck near a campground in Wenatchee, Washington, where SWAT teams and even a Homeland Security helicopter had frantically searched the area, KIRO 7 reported. The girls' AMBER alerts were cancelled late Monday without explanation, before police confirmed the deaths Tuesday with 'sincere and deep heartfelt condolences to the family'. The search continued for their 32-year-old dad, Travis Decker, who had collected them from their mother's house for a planned visitation on Friday — then went missing with them in his white 2017 GMC Sierra truck. Decker is described as a military veteran with extensive training. Hours before the bodies were found, a warrant was issued for Decker's arrest on three counts of first-degree custodial interference. On Tuesday, the charges were updated to three counts each of kidnapping and first-degree murder, police confirmed to Fox13. Decker, who is homeless and divorced from his children's mother, was known to stay at campgrounds and hotels in the local area with his dog, according to police. After picking up the girls Friday, Decker and his truck were seen later that weekend in the west end of Leavenworth, triggering a police search in the wooded areas around the town, NCWLIFE reported. The bodies were found on Rock Island Campground, about 30km west of the town of Leavenworth, at around 5pm on Monday. SWAT teams and federal agencies — including Homeland Security and the US Forest Service — then descended on the area and began the search for Decker. The Washington State Patrol Crime Scene Response Team came to process the scene and search Decker's truck on Monday. Processing is expected to wrap up sometime today. The girls' mother, Whitney Decker, had issued a heartbreaking appeal for their safe return Monday, hours before the bodies were found. 'I just want the girls back home safe and sound — that is the most important thing to me,' she said in the emailed statement sent to NCWLIFE. 'I am concerned about the safety and wellbeing of my girls and their dad. This is an unimaginable situation. 'I am pleading for everyone to look out for them.' She said she had never had problems before when her ex had the kids — and didn't think his battles with mental health would make him 'dangerous'. 'Travis has really struggled since he left the military and his mental health can be hard sometimes,' she told Kiro7 before her daughters turned up dead. 'He is impulsive and he loves his children very much.' A heartbreaking letter was sent out to parents, students and staff by the Wenatchee School District on Tuesday. All three girls attended Lincoln Elementary School. Describing the 'incredibly difficult situation', Superintendent Kory Kalahar said that counselling services were being provided on campus for all children and staff who need support. 'To allow our students, staff, and families the space and privacy they need to mourn and begin healing, we respectfully ask that you do not come to the school campus except for regular school business,' the letter, seen by Fox13, continued. Authorities have issued a description of Decker and have asked the community to help find him. He is described as 172cm tall, 86kg, with black hair and brown eyes, last seen wearing a light-coloured shirt and dark shorts. Although it is unknown whether Decker is currently armed, he may pose a significant threat if approached, authorities added. Anyone who believes they may have seen Decker since Friday or knows his current whereabouts is urged to call police immediately. Due to safety concerns, the public is urged not to attempt to contact or approach Decker.
