Panthers Had the Perfect Three-Word Reaction After Eliminating Lightning

Yahoo01-05-2025

The Florida Panthers closed out their first-round series against the Tampa Bay Lightning with a 6-3 road win in Game 5 on Wednesday night, eliminating their in-state rival for the second year in a row.
Eetu Luostarinen earned the first star of the game after recording four points (one goal, three assists) in the win, and Florida advanced to the second round for the fourth consecutive postseason.

Minutes after the final horn, the Panthers posted a clever three-word message on X:
'Clear skies ahead.'
The caption was paired with an image of a panther holding a crystal bottle containing a lightning bolt—a clear jab at Tampa's early exit and a play on the phrase 'lightning in a bottle.'
Tampa Bay opened the scoring on Wednesday, but the Panthers tied the game less than three minutes later while taking the lead barely ten minutes into the first period.
Both teams exchanged goals up to a 3-3 scoreline before Sam Bennett, Luostarinen, and Sam Reinhart scored three unanswered goals for the Panthers, effectively sealing their win and clinching the series.

Coach Paul Maurice spoke highly of both teams after the game, noting the intensity of the all-Florida matchup.
"Two teams right in their prime, very competitive men,' Maurice said. 'Tampa has had success, so it got nasty this year because of the playoffs last year and the fact that we're rivals, but we're also in the same place with our teams ... legitimate teams."

The defending champions have now eliminated Tampa in back-to-back playoffs as the Panthers try to make a third consecutive run toward the Stanley Cup Final.
'They have an exceptional team,' Lightning head coach Jon Cooper said. 'It was our turn (from 2020 to 2022). Now, it's theirs.'

Florida will face either the Toronto Maple Leafs or the Ottawa Senators in the second round. Toronto leads that series 3–2 with Game 6 scheduled for Thursday night.

Lynx's Napheesa Collier makes bonkers WNBA history in just 1 quarter vs. Storm

The post Lynx's Napheesa Collier makes bonkers WNBA history in just 1 quarter vs. Storm appeared first on ClutchPoints. Minnesota Lynx All-Star Napheesa Collier made bonkers WNBA history, becoming the only player ever to record five steals and two blocks in a single quarter. She pulled off the feat in the opening quarter of Minnesota's 82-77 win over the Seattle Storm at Target Center on Tuesday night. Advertisement The 2024 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year showed exactly why she earned that title. In 37 minutes, Collier collected 10 rebounds, five assists, and 16 points on 7-of-18 shooting. Her suffocating defense powered the Lynx to a 26-11 first-quarter lead. Although the Storm roared back and closed the third quarter at 54-51, the Lynx held firm to seal the win. With the victory, Minnesota improved to a perfect 5-0. Seattle, meanwhile, dropped to 3-2. Collier, a two-time All-WNBA First Team honoree, has been on fire since the start of the season. She's averaging 28.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.2 steals, and 1 block per game. Her all-around play has been key to the Lynx's unbeaten run. Under head coach Cheryl Reeve, the Lynx hold a joint-record four WNBA championships. They share that mark with the Houston Comets and Seattle Storm. Remarkably, all four titles came in the past decade. Last year, the Lynx added the Commissioner's Cup, with Collier named tournament MVP. However, they fell short in the WNBA Finals, losing to the New York Liberty in a winner-take-all Game 5. That win gave New York its first championship since joining the league in 1997. Advertisement Since joining Minnesota in 2019, Collier has built an impressive resume. She boasts four All-Star nods, an All-WNBA Second Team selection, three All-Defensive Team honors, and a Rookie of the Year award. As one of the league's best two-way players, Collier anchors Minnesota's championship push. Last season, she finished second in MVP voting, just behind A'ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces. Early in the season, Collier emerged as a favorite to win the award. The big questions now: Can Collier and the Lynx sustain their hot start and return to the Finals? And will Collier finally win her first MVP award? Up next, the Lynx head to PHX Arena to face the Phoenix Mercury.

WNBA icon Rebecca Lobo makes clear choice for league MVP

The post WNBA icon Rebecca Lobo makes clear choice for league MVP appeared first on ClutchPoints. It's still early in the 2025 WNBA season, but Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier is having the best campaign of her career so far — no small feat for someone on a Hall of Fame trajectory. Advertisement Barring anything unforeseen, the four-time All-Star figures to be a major player in the WNBA MVP conversation when the summer winds down. As it stands, one of her fellow UConn legends, Rebecca Lobo, has her as the clubhouse leader. 'It's early, but right now @PHEEsespieces is leading the @WNBA MVP conversation,' Lobo wrote via X last week. 'Why? See graphic below. (For context: no player has ever led the league in scoring with a 50-40-90 efficiency 7 games into the season.) Research: @jlacroix14 Graphic: @juliana_sherry' Lobo knows what she's talking about. After leading UConn to its first-ever national championship, she played seven seasons in the W. She's since become one of the lead faces of ESPN's women's college basketball and WNBA coverage. Advertisement As for Collier, she's done nothing but make history and reach milestones since the 2025 season started. She notched her 50th career double-double against the Phoenix Mercury last week, and the week before, became the only player ever to record five steals and two blocks in a single quarter. Lynx' Cheryl Reeve calls Napheesa Collier 'best player' in WNBA Paul Rutherford-Imagn Images As the longest-tenured head coach in the WNBA, Cheryl Reeve has guided Collier through her entire career so far. Now that Collier is averaging career-bests almost across the board, Reeve said she's glad people are starting to recognize her star's ability. 'I'm just glad that people are understanding Phee's greatness,' she told the media on Monday. 'How great she is at both ends of the floor. I mean, we're not talking about just putting the ball in the hole. Just a complete player. Best player in the league.' Advertisement While there's still plenty of time for someone to surpass Collier this season, it's hard to argue against Reeve. Collier is the reigning Western Conference Player of the Month and her team is one of two undefeateds left in the WNBA. Reeve also mentioned Collier as an MVP candidate in May, but the vet has remained focused on the task at hand. 'I'm really just focused on team stuff,' Collier said via Sportskeedia. 'We got so close to the championship last year. That's my No. 1 goal. I think all of the other stuff comes after that. I'm just focused on us getting a championship.' Fans Beg Travis Kelce To 'Close His Legs' After 'Manspreading' At Stanley Cup Game

and made headlines once again, this time for their surprise appearance at the Stanley Cup Finals on Thursday night in Florida. But while the power couple's presence thrilled many, it also sparked a wave of fan reactions ranging from playful panic to heated backlash, specifically regarding Travis Kelce's outfit of choice. The couple, currently spending their summer in the Sunshine State as Kelce gears up for the upcoming NFL season, took a break from their routines to watch the Florida Panthers take on the Edmonton Oilers. The intense Game 4 ended in a nail-biting 5-4 victory for the Oilers, tying the series 2-2, but the action in the stands was just as buzzworthy. Swift turned heads in a chic, laid-back sweatsuit while Kelce repped his Kansas City pride in a bold red sweater and shorts. But the Chiefs star's shorts were a bit too short for some fans' comfort, especially when the camera zoomed in during an intimate moment in the couple's VIP suite. 'Travis, please close your legs. I feel anxious,' one X user wrote on social media, resharing the clip. 'I DIDN'T WANNA BE THE ONE TO SAY IT, but holy hell, the manspreading. I'm stressing for him,' another joked, referencing the NFL star's past wardrobe malfunction during an interview with comedian Andrew Santino. "That was way more than I needed to see Travis," a third wrote. "MY EYES," someone else said. While Travis Kelce's leg-baring moment had fans nervously laughing, Swift wasn't as lucky in the comments section. The pop superstar once again found herself under fire from critics who accused her of 'ruining everything' just by showing up. 'We don't care about Taylor Swift!' one user ranted. 'Do they really need to ruin hockey too?' another chimed in. 'Get her away from the game.' The backlash echoes the scrutiny Swift faced throughout the NFL season, where some viewers voiced their frustration over her on-screen presence during Kelce's games. But not everyone was here for the hate. 'The comments here are disgusting,' one fan wrote in her defense. 'If a woman attending a hockey game bothers you so much, TV isn't for you! I guarantee she has significantly less screen time than any commercial you sit through.' "Allow me to say it again: if you are mad that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are shown, that's a you problem," someone else said. "Because I don't see any slander of any other celebrity when they're shown. Just look at the two; they're so happy to be together and that makes me happy." While their Stanley Cup appearance stirred plenty of controversy, not all the buzz surrounding Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce was negative. In fact, one quietly captured moment had fans swooning. Amid whispers of a possible secret wedding, a lip reader has decoded a private exchange between the couple that took place as they arrived at the Amerant Bank Arena in Florida. The intimate moment was caught on camera and later analyzed by expert NJ Hickling, who revealed to Daily Mail just how supportive and adorable Swift was during the chat. According to the breakdown, the two were discussing jackets and a potential role Kelce might play, referencing his recent ventures into acting. Travis Kelce, who's already appeared in "My Dead Friend Zoe," "Happy Gilmore 2," and an upcoming Jean-Michel Basquiat documentary, showed Swift something on his phone. 'Yeah 'cos I'm big, they're quite good jackets. It'll be tailored, has a hat and everything,' Travis reportedly said. Taylor replied with, 'That's crazy,' sipping her drink before he showed her more. She then added, 'Oh wow.' When Travis asked, 'Do you want that?' Taylor didn't miss a beat, smiling and replying sweetly, 'You'd look like a movie star.' The tight end then concluded, 'That looks like the perfect one.' While they haven't addressed the swirling marriage rumors directly, their public appearances, full of effortless affection and inside jokes, are giving fans plenty to speculate (and swoon) over.
