Victorian visitors head betting in South Australian Group 1 features Robert Sangster Stakes and Australasian Oaks
Victorian-trained performers head early all-in betting markets on both Group 1 features to be decided in Adelaide on Saturday.
Morphettville will host the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) for sprinting mares and the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) for three-year-old fillies.
Last year's Royal Ascot winner Asfoora tops Sangster Stakes betting at $4.50 after her strong first-up win in the Group 3 Irwin Stakes over 1100m.
Previous Sangster Stakes winners Platelet (2013), Driefontein (2014) and Climbing Star (2024) emerged from the Irwin Stakes to claim their respective triumphs.
Climbing Star is a $5 equal second pick to repeat last year's win after her close third in the Irwin Stakes when resuming from a spell.
Godolphin mare Commemorative is the other $5 second favourite on the strength of her consistent form during the Sydney autumn carnival.
Climbing Star's Phillip Stokes stablemate Stretan Angel is a $7 pick along with Sydney mare Sunshine In Paris, who finished third in last Saturday's Group 1 All Aged Stakes at Randwick.
Travelling on a seven-day back-up is nothing new to Sunshine In Paris, who won the Group 1 Champions' Sprint at Flemington a week after running second in a $3m race at Rosehill.
The Glen Thompson-trained mare Benagil is a $4 equal favourite in Australasian Oaks betting alongside last Saturday's Mornington Guineas winner Movin Out.
Benagil ran a solid second to budding star Treasurethe Moment in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill on April 1.
The John O'Shea and Tom Charlton-trained Polymni a is on the second line of Oaks betting at $5 ahead of the in-form filly Cinch, who has won her last three starts.
Wangaratta-trained filly All Kinds Of Folk is the only other runner under $10 in Australasian Oaks betting after her placing in the Auraria Stakes.

Cosmonaut has race experience. Expecting him to be strong late here. Bet: Cabriole  to win, Cosmonaut  to place, exacta 2 to beat 3. RACE 2 British Gem can be forgiven for her underwhelming debut at Newcastle on May 3 given it was a heavy (10) track. Has only seen heavy ground in all of her trials and the one race start so suspecting that she will appreciate it a bit firmer. The Pearls has 'Oaks/Cups type' in her blood – literally – as a member of a prized family that boasts The Phantom, The Phantom Chance, The Twinkle, The Dimple and so many more. Be strong late here. Bet: British Gem each-way, quinella. Lady Boss has three wins and five placings from 12 starts. She has mixed and matched it with better horses than these. One start for one easy win here. Blue Willow is the fifth foal of Anamato which makes this filly a half-sister to Anamoe. This will be Anamoe's jockey James McDonald's first ride on Blue Willow in what is her city debut. All three runs were at Newcastle, each one better than the last. Bet: Lady Boss to win, exacta 2 to beat 10. RACE 4 Gatchan is a Norm Gardner-trained mare whose fourth dam is Who Can Say; the mother of Bounding Away. Gatchan has a get back, run on pattern which hasn't always helped and granted, is least presumably effective at Canterbury but she passed a lot of horses here the other day. Gatchan gets almost 10kg off Monarch's Brae but this Chris Waller and James McDonald topweight is working his way to a peak. He's a Canterbury horse having won four from nine here. Bet: Gatchan each-way, quinella 1,8. Gatekeeper is another James McDonald ride. He's one for one on Gatekeeper which was set aside after an impressive win here on debut in mid-January. He's a gelding but still can marvel at his pedigree being by Justify out of Nakeeta Jane. Trialled well, nice horse. Dashing Eagle descendant Hippolyte Rock was ridden by Tommy Berry when he won at Newcastle in March and he's there again today which is a positive lead. Bet: Gatekeeper to win, box First 4: Nos, 2,5,6,9,11. Apex has raced seven times for two wins, three seconds and a third. That third was behind Caulfield Guineas winner Private Life on debut. The Hawkes Racing gelding has finished runner-up in all three visits to Canterbury, two were at this same trip. Metaphorically has been gelded since he last appeared. Lightly raced, has deep form and the trials are excellent. Wave Breaker 's best would be good enough to win. Bet: Apex to win, Daily Double 1st Leg 3, 2nd Leg 2. Flying Destiny has five wins and 10 placings (seven of them seconds) from 21 career starts. On top of that, the Darby Racing galloper has raced at Canterbury three times for two wins and a second. He's always been a good fresh horse and the trials are suggestive of a bold return (as usual). Expecting a much better run, a more typical run in fact, from World Alliance. That was a very wet track there first-up for him at home. Won a trial since. Pink Shalala boasts the 1980 Golden Slipper winner, Dark Eclipse, as her sixth dam. Her numbers are impressive; nine runs, one win, four second and two thirds. Her record at this track and trip is three starts for a win and two seconds. Granted, it is not all lollipops and roses; she has been a bit costly at times for punters but barrier 4, James McDonald, third-up – really, she has to step up this time. Bonus Tempus could run well here at big odds as he is prone to do on occasions. Bet: Punk Shalala to win (best bet). â– â– â– â– â– BEST BET Both runs, either side of the spell, have had merit. Hasn't done much wrong and was good first-up here too. VALUE Dundeel three-year-old that seems eager to get a mile. Does now.

At The Track: Sydney racing scores with Everest slot deal
The Australian Turf Club's decision to lease their Everest slot to Hong Kong Jockey Club for at least two years is a coup for Sydney racing. The deal ensures that barring injury or some unforeseen circumstance, the world's number one-ranked racehorse, Hong Kong's superstar sprinter Ka Ying Rising, will contest the Group 1 $20 million The TAB Everest at Royal Randwick on October 18. Hall of Fame trainer David Hayes has also indicated Ka Ying Rising will stay in Sydney for the $3 million Russell Balding Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill Gardens two weeks later. This leaves eight slots remaining and competition for an Everest start will be fierce – but not everyone is happy. A leading Sydney trainer contacted At The Track incensed that ATC had not used their slot for an 'ATC trained horse'. 'Surely that's the idea of a slot,'' the trainer said. 'That's like Wayne Bennett picking a player from another club for the grand final. What a disgrace.'' The regally-bred Minnie Hauk gave Irish training genius Aidan O'Brien his 11th Oaks win when she defeated her stablemate Whirl. ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ The US triple crown isn't on the line but the final leg of the famous series, the Belmont Stakes, takes on special significance with the return clash of Godolphin's Sovereignty and Coolmore's Journalism in New York on Sunday morning. Sovereignty won an epic Kentucky Derby from Journalism last month but missed the second leg, the Preakness Stakes. In his absence, Journalism scored an incredible Preakness win and is early favourite with TAB Fixed Odds for the Belmont at $2.60 with Sovereignty pressing at $2.80. Recent floods nearly left You Wahng stranded in NSW, but the Kris Lees filly overcame travel challenges to take out the Group 1 Queensland Oaks at Eagle Farm. The Kris Lees-trained filly You Wahng was lucky to be even running in Saturday's Queensland Oaks (2200m), let alone winning the Group 1 at Eagle Farm. 'Look we lost confidence after she went to Gosford for a prep run to get her back on track but she was a bit plain,' he said. • Sunrays ends stellar campaign as trainer resists Group 1 lure '(Jockey) Andrew Gibbons suggested putting a tongue-tie on and she's reacted really well to that. 'It was a lovely ride from Tommy. He was able to get us straight across from the gate and got into a lovely position in running. 'He had a lot of horse coming to the corner, but I was always just a little guarded that last furlong when she presented, but she was able to find under pressure. 'She probably got to him a bit early in The Roses, so Tommy was adamant we just needed to hold her up for a furlong sprint and he produced her at the right time today. 'She looked the winner a long way from home. 'She was on her last legs late but she found something extra under pressure so that was very pleasing.' You Wahng will now head to the paddock for a 'well-deserved' spell. 'That's her first city win, actually,' Lees said. 'She'll have a well-deserved rest because she's had a good prep. She's been up all throughout and we thought after the Oaks in Sydney we were a chance and she's delivered.'
