The Best Whitening Products For Sensitive Teeth That Minimize Discomfort
How can you tell which are the best whitening products for sensitive teeth? One important measure is that they use a lower percentage of active ingredients to minimize discomfort. Whitening products with a higher concentration may produce more visible results, but the formula can be too strong for those with dental sensitivity. After extensive research, we chose Crest 3D Whitestrips Sensitive as the best product overall; it's affordable, easy to use and has about half the peroxide content of the original version. Sensodyne's Extra Whitening Toothpaste is another convenient option that offers enamel and cavity protection.
The best whitening products for sensitive teeth use lower percentages of active ingredients to ... More minimize discomfort.
When choosing whitening products, two of the most important considerations are the delivery (for example, strips, gels or molded trays) and concentration. 'The concentration of active ingredients significantly affects whitening results,' says Dr. David Wagner, a cosmetic dentist in L.A. 'It's a best practice for people with sensitive teeth to go low and slow, meaning use a low concentration gel over 3-4 weeks for shorter application time, even skipping days to reduce sensitivity.' Want to know more? Read on for our choices of the best whitening products for sensitive teeth, from strips to toothpaste to devices for a complete oral care routine.

Product type: Strips | Active ingredient: 5.25% hydrogen peroxide | Frequency of use: 30 minutes daily
Pros:
Cons:
Whitening strips are an easy, 'low lift' way to whiten and brighten. (The Forbes Vetted team also ranked the original version of these Crest 3D strips as one of the best teeth whitening products.) This product is formulated with hydrogen peroxide, a common active ingredient in over-the-counter whitening treatments, but it has a lower concentration that gently improves surface level staining.
Amazon
Product type: Strips | Active ingredients: Coconut oil, sage oil, citrus lemon peel oil, Dead Sea salt | Frequency of use: 30 minutes daily for one week
Pros:
Cons:
Although peroxide is safe for sensitive teeth in lower concentrations, it may still trigger some sensitivity. As an alternative, the Lumineux Teeth Whitening Strips use natural ingredients like coconut oil, sage oil and citrus lemon peel oil to provide long-lasting results. 'Whitening strips can deliver much better results since the whitening material is in contact with the teeth much longer than whitening toothpaste,' says Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, founder and CEO of Lumineux. Like the Crest Whitestrips, apply the strips for 30 minutes daily for four days, then reduce the frequency to once a week thereafter.
Amazon
Product type: Toothpaste | Active ingredients: Potassium nitrate, sodium fluoride | Frequency of use: Twice daily
Pros:
Cons:
While toothpaste will have less dramatic results than strips or trays because it isn't in contact with your teeth for as long, it works well with other whitening products. The Potassium nitrate and sodium fluoride work to remove surface stains while calming the nerves within the tooth. This toothpaste also protects the enamel, prevents tartar buildup, and protects against cavities and tooth decay.
Amazon
Product type: Gel | Active ingredient: 6% hydrogen peroxide | Frequency of use: Three times per day
Pros:
Cons:
This whitening system is convenient and doesn't cause any sensitivity, thanks to the low peroxide concentration. This gel comes in small, squeezable vials with a brush tip for precise application without a mess. Each portable Glo vial has three to four applications, and an airtight seal keeps it from spilling. Plus, it comes with a hydrating lip balm.
Snow
Product type: LED mouthpiece | Active ingredient: Hydroxyapatite, carbamide peroxide | Frequency of use: Daily for 9 minutes
Pros:
Cons:
This effective whitening system is one of the quickest ways to whiten and brighten your teeth at home. The active ingredients include hydroxyapatite, a naturally occurring mineral that can help restore your enamel, and carbamide peroxide, a derivative of hydrogen peroxide that releases at a slower rate. After brushing your teeth, apply the Snow serum and insert the USB-powered LED mouthpiece for a nine-minute treatment. The kit also includes a shade guide to track your whitening progress throughout the 3-week treatment.
Moon Beauty
Product type: Gel | Active ingredient: Carbamide peroxide | Frequency of use: Twice daily
Pros:
Cons:
The Moon Teeth Whitening Pen uses carbamide peroxide and a proprietary blend of essential oils and extracts—including lavender oil, strawberry fruit extract and honeysuckle flower extract—to gently whiten without sensitivity or pain. The formula also includes light-reflecting pigments for an immediate brightening effect. Another benefit? The simple design can be used on the go and easily fits into a small purse or handbag.
At Forbes Vetted, we've researched and written dozens of stories on personal care products, including the best teeth whitening strips, best teeth whitening kits and more.
To narrow down our options for the best whitening products for sensitive teeth, we tapped into our deep market knowledge and extensive testing experience, highlighting products and brands that whiten and brighten without discomfort.
When shopping for a whitener for sensitive teeth, the most important considerations are the whitening agent and the concentration. After consulting with three experts, here's what to look for.
'The most common active ingredient in whitening products is peroxide, which can either be hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide,' says Dr. Kevin Sands, a cosmetic dentist in L.A. 'Hydrogen peroxide quickly breaks down any discoloration and it tends to be a more effective agent, while carbamide peroxide releases both hydrogen peroxide and urea when it comes in contact with water.' Hydrogen peroxide requires less contact time with your teeth. In contrast, carbamide peroxide has more of an 'extended release' approach and requires about 4 to 6 hours of contact time. 'These ingredients effectively bleach the tooth enamel to lift stains,' says Wagner. Other active ingredients that you might see are coconut oil, lemon peel oil and sage oil.
Our experts agree that the concentration of the active ingredient directly correlates to the results. 'Whitening products with a higher active ingredient concentration result in a more powerful formula and more visible results. On the other hand, whitening products with a lower active ingredient concentration can still produce optimal results, but it will take a bit longer to see a difference,' says Sands. When in doubt, consult your dentist, who can best advise you on the ideal concentration or product for your needs.
Whitening products come in strips, gels, toothpastes, mouthwashes, molded trays and LED mouthpieces. Products directly applied to the teeth for extended periods, like strips and gels, are typically more effective than toothpaste, which isn't in contact with your teeth for very long. Toothpaste and mouthwash can offer subtle results when used consistently and work best with other whitening methods. They can also prolong the results of whitening strips and trays.
After extensive research, we deemed the Crest 3D Whitestrips Sensitive the best teeth whitening product for sensitive teeth. It contains about half the peroxide content of the original (5.25%) to lift stains from the tooth, and it's uncomplicated to use; there are no trays or mess when applying. The affordable price also makes it easy to re-purchase if you need to touch up the results down the road.
Yes, even with sensitive teeth, you can use whitening products. Make sure you look for a formula with a lower concentration of the active ingredients or natural extracts like coconut oil and lemon peel oil. 'When choosing a whitening product for sensitive teeth, opt for formulations specifically designed for sensitivity, such as those containing potassium nitrate or nano-hydroxyapatite (nHAp),' says Wagner.
The Moon Teeth Whitening Pen is the best option as it uses carbamide peroxide and a proprietary blend of essential oils and extracts to whiten teeth effectively. The formula also includes light-reflecting pigments that add a brightening effect the minute you swipe this gel on.

I use this anti-aging eye cream daily and I look 10 years younger than I am. Psst — it's on sale for $22
When I turned 40, with a baby on the way, it became much more challenging to conceal the puffy eyes and dark circles of a sleepless night. A few years later, I added another kiddo and tired eyes became my trademark look. I tried dozens of products to revive the delicate under-eye area, but it wasn't until CeraVe's Eye Repair Cream that I actually started to notice long-term improvements. As someone with easily irritated eyes, this lightweight cream is my daily go-to. So, when my four-year-old is up at 3 a.m. with an ear infection, CeraVe's eye cream will help to hide the evidence of a sleepless night. I'm not the only one who loves this affordable beauty product — according to our data, hundreds of Yahoo readers have also snapped it up. Read on to find out why I'm obsessed — and to shop it on sale for $22 on Amazon. This fragrance-free, ophthalmologist-tested eye cream contains three essential ceramides and hydrating hyaluronic acid. It's made with a patented delivery system that continually releases the ingredients so your eyes stay moisturized all day long. With continued regular use, you will notice a reduction in dark circles and under-eye puffiness. Apply a few dots of the cream to your under-eye area in the morning and evening, and gently smooth until fully absorbed. It works great alone or under makeup. The CeraVe eye cream, developed with dermatologists, is non-comedogenic and great for all skin types. It's great for sensitive eyes: I love how the CeraVe cream moisturizes without irritating my sensitive eyes. It absorbs quickly and is a great primer for my under-eye concealer. Each application requires just a few dots of the product, so the little tube goes a long way. Dermatologist-approved: I also appreciate that the product has been recognized by the Canadian Dermatology Association and has been well-tested by experts. It's not just some gimmicky eye cream but one that has a lot of science behind it, which matters to me. Great for hyperpigmentation: With more than 3,500 reviews and a 4.3-star rating, it's clear I am not the only one who swears by this hydrating cream. One shopper said they wished they had found it sooner as it significantly "reduced hyperpigmentation" under their eyes. They stated that their under-eye area became 30 per cent lighter, which they say is a "big win." Not greasy: Another reviewer mentions how "non-greasy" the cream is and that it doesn't irritate sensitive eyes, while another person calls it a "wonderful product." $22 $24 at Amazon 12 summer dresses under $100 that flatter your arms, tummy and everything in between I've been using this anti-aging face cream for over a year. It's just like La Mer's $525 cream, but it's $476 cheaper 11 Amazon fashion finds for women over 40 that are surprisingly stylish — all under $50 It's not a quick-fix eye cream: This product is great, but it's not a fast-acting wonder cream. You need to use it for several weeks, if not months, to see any remarkable improvements. Also, you can't skip applications, or it will set your results back. Commit to using it for a solid six months before you assess if it's working for you. Some Amazon reviewers mentioned they saw no visible difference after a few weeks; however, from personal experience, the cream takes time to do its thing. I promise, if you stick with it, your under-eye area will improve — just don't give up! It's not as hydrating as other eye creams: The eye cream could be a tad thicker; however, it probably wouldn't absorb as well if it was. CeraVe has a unique formula that may take a while to work, but once it does, it's great. My advice? Don't throw in the towel just yet. With hundreds of five-star reviews, I am far from the only fan of CeraVe's Eye Repair Cream. One reviewer, who has struggled with "hollow eyes" and "hyperpigmentation" their "whole life," says the eye cream has made their under-eye area "about 30 per cent lighter" — a "big win" for them. They write that their dark eye bags are "barely noticeable" after applying makeup. "I will definitely be buying [it] again." Another shopper agrees it's a "great cream for dark circles," adding that it works "way better than expensive eye creams." "Every dollar spent on it is worth it," they write. "My advice," echoes a third shopper: "Throw out all your expensive skin care" and only buy CeraVe products. They're "reasonably priced," and, importantly, "they work." Despite thousands of five-star reviews, some warn it's "not a miracle product" and agree it can take a few months to show noticeable results. I love CeraVe products, and this one is no exception. It's gentle on my eye area, and after using it for a few months straight, I saw significant improvements in my dark circles and under-eye puffiness. That said, if you are looking for something to quickly erase a night out with the girls or a long overseas flight, this is probably not going to provide the quick fix you need. This lightweight cream will yield results, but it's going to take some time. If you commit to using it twice a day for the next six months, I'm certain you will be impressed with what you see (and don't see) under your eyes in the morning.

I don't use it every every third. Just spray down everything after the shower, and forget about it. You DO need to rinse tub before the next shower due to product making it slick. The fumes of other cleaners always messed with my asthma. I have noticed that for some reason with this one, I sneeze twice, because I have to spray shower doors while I'm still in the it never affects my lungs. They make a specialty grout head you can buy for it ($14.68 from Amazon), but TBH the default brush works just as well, unless you have incredibly narrow grout it from Amazon for $ more details? Read my full Rubbermaid power scrubber review (#2)! Work a miracle on your disgusting toilet tank by pouring in a cup of citric acid, topping with some boiling water, and walking away for a few hours. The step-by-step: 1. Turn the water to your toilet off with the little metal valve in the back. 2. Flush the toilet so the tank empties, but doesn't refill (because the water's off). 3. Pour a half cup of citric acid in the tank. 4. Fill the tank up with hot water (some people boil it, some people just use hot from the tap). 5. Let it sit for at least two hours, and up to overnight. 6. Give it all a scrub with your toilet brush. 7. Turn the water back on, and flush a few times till all the mess is gone! You can get citric acid from Amazon for $14.99. Save yourself lots of fruitless scrubbing with a toilet brush and use a pumice stone to quickly banish those impossible rust and mineral rings in your toilet bowl. Then stamp some gel into your clean toilet to actually keep it that way for weeks and months at a time. All you have to do is re-stamp as needed. I used this in college and can personally attest it really does work!Get enough to keep your toilet clean for up to 10 weeks for $4.48 on Amazon. Switch to wearing sweeper slippers every time you're at home, so as you walk around, you're also picking up all the dust, fuzz, and hair lurking on your hard floors. Of course these only really work on hard floors like wood or tile. And even then, they'll pick up *some* stuff, but not everything — to pick up more dust, crumbs, and debris, you have to put a little effort into using your feet as brooms and sweeping everything into one pile. But when I wore them for a week, I did that way more often than I expected to, and my floors were cleaner because of it!The pair I got from Amazon initially is sold out, but you can get the pictured bear version from Amazon for $11.99 (available in 3 sizes, 3 colors, and 5 designs) or a pack of 5 brightly-colored elastic pairs that slip over socks on Amazon for $ review (for the bear version): "So worth it! I love having clean floors but sometimes I'm lazy and I live near the beach, so sand can be a hassle on the hardwood floors in my apartment. I love these so much and have pretty much worn then every day since I got them. They are super comfy and help clean! These are such a great addition to my routine." —Laura J Have pets that shed? Pick up every last little bit of their fur that's embedded in your carpet using the squeegee-side of a rubber broom. Can you believe the German Shepard owner who took this pic uses a Dyson pet vac — and THAT is how much hair the broom got that the vacuum didn't?? It also works wonders on hardwood floors and tile! It won't take very long for this thing to pluck every last piece of pet hair out of your space. Get it from Amazon for $20.40. Promising review: "This thing just plain works. We got a golden retriever last year and were told he didn't shed, but in the spring he started shedding badly. The bristles pulled the hair up then caught the tufts and spread them around. I found that using short quick strokes with the rake turned upside-down got the best results. The backside is more like a squeegee and helps pull the hair up in long rolls and keeps the hair in one big pile." —Nick V. Use any old squeegee and some water in a spray bottle to easily clean pet hair off your sofa, furniture, and basically anything that's upholstered with fabric. Just spritz once or twice, squeegee, and watch it clump up. Then use your hands or a vacuum to suck up the clumps. It's the same concept as the broom above, but for smaller areas than your floor, and you probably already have a squeegee at home! From CareaBearaSara. A similar squeegee is $10.99 on Amazon. Pop a bunch of things in the dishwasher to clean them all at once while you go and do literally anything else: dusty AC vent covers, sticky stove vent hood filters, grimy glass light covers, and even wrenches and screwdrivers can stand a go. From One Crazy House. For more, check out 16 Ways To Use Your Dishwasher To Clean Almost Everything You Own. Then clean all the gunk and scum out of your dishwasher by running it empty with a cleaning tablet. If cross-contamination has you concerned, this will cover you! Spray some fume-free foam cleaner in your oven, let it all sit overnight, then easily wipe away the crud in the morning — the oven will look brand new. Technically, you can let this sit anywhere from two hours to overnight to get results. And while you might have to do *some* light scrubbing, it should be much easier than it would've been without this cleaner! Don't forget to spray it on the racks too (unless your racks have a special coating on 'em). Get a 24-ounce can on Amazon for $ review: "This stuff is amazing! Spray it on, let it sit overnight and wipe it out. Looks brand new. I honestly didn't think this was possible. The grates had years of cooked on grease, sprayed right off in the sink. Can't wait to try it on the BBQ." —Kalub hall Microwave a bowl filled with water + lemon for three to five minutes — then leave the door closed for a few minutes so everything can steam — and you'll be able to wipe off every single dried-on food bit with one swipe of a paper towel. This also works with water + vinegar, or honestly just plain water. And of course you can wipe off with a sponge instead. I've been doing this for years, and have yet to find a gross microwave where this doesn't work wonders. Read my full review or watch the Nifty video.
