What's On? Getting physical at Doors Taco Joint

To Georgina Keough, it's freedom.
It's expression.
It's performing burlesque.
Keough started performing burlesque in 2017 and fell in love with the theatrical and humorous playing of characters such as a clown Elvis or Darth Vader from 'Star Wars.'
'It's the freedom to be whatever I feel like being at that time,' she said.
In an attempt to bring artists together and take a break from the daily stress of life, Keough pulled together a group of four other artists to put together a variety show.
The second local show of its kind will happen on Thursday, May 8 at Doors Taco Joint and Metal Bar on downtown Hamilton's Hess Street South.
The variety show will feature 10 performers, including burlesque dancers, opera singers, drag queens and even wrestlers.
'We have some very strong singers who have voices that will just take your breath away,' said Keough.
But the event is not just any variety show.
Georgina Keough will be part of a burlesque variety show on Saturday, May 3, at Doors Taco Joint on Hess Street South in Hamilton. It's themed around the movie 'Tank Girl.'
For film buffs, the show is themed after the 1995 movie 'Tank Girl.' The postapocalyptic movie follows survivors of a comet strike that turns Earth desolate and barren by 2033.
The performers in the variety show will be based on characters from the movie.
Keough said this is one of what she hopes will be monthly shows because she sees a want locally.
'We're a small group in Hamilton right now, but the community is growing really quickly,' said Keough.
Tickets are $10 at the door.
Here's what else is going on in the upcoming week:

'Spaceballs 2' Recruiting 'Thunderbolts' Star

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors Like father, like Thunderbolt. Lewis Pullman, son of Bill Pullman, is in talks to join his father in "Spaceballs 2". That's the word from The Hollywood Reporter, who says that the younger Pullman will fittingly be playing Starburst, the son of Lone Starr (Bill Pullman) and Queen Vespa (Daphne Zuniga). Read More: Mel Brooks Returns to Fan-Favorite 'Spaceballs' Role Lewis Pullman will potentially join a cast that so far is a healthy mix of alum of the original 1987 "Spaceballs" and newcomers to the parody party. Along with the elder Pullman and Zuniga, Mel Brooks will once again play the Yoda-esque Yogurt, and Rick Moranis is ending his long acting hiatus to return as the Darth Vader send-up Lord Dark Helmet. More Christopher Smith/AP Photos Josh Gad and Keke Palmer are leading the cast. Palmer will play a character named Destiny. Gad's character has not yet been disclosed. Amazon MGM's logline calls the follow-up "A Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film." "Will & Harper" director Josh Greenbaum is directing the sequel, with a script from Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Josh Gad. The original "Spaceballs" is a hilarious cult classic directed by Mel Brooks. While it's largely a parody of "Star Wars", it also makes sure to poke fun at other science fiction entries like "2001: A Space Odyssey", "Alien", and "Star Trek". Judging by its announcement teaser, 'Spaceballs 2" could be gearing up to target an even broader range of targets. The teaser is a send-up of the famous "Star Wars" opening crawl, and it aptly and hilariously sums up the last few decades of science fiction franchises. First teaser for 'SPACEBALLS 2' In theaters in 2027. — DiscussingFilm (@DiscussingFilm) June 12, 2025 Among other things, the "Spaceballs 2" announcement teaser mentions the "Star Wars" sequel trilogy, which brings us back to Lewis Pullman. Considering he will potentially play the son of the first movie's heroes, it's tempting to speculate he'll be a parody of Adam Driver's Kylo Ren. If so, we can only hope that the Schwartz is with Bill Pullman's Lone Starr and he doesn't join his son on any narrow catwalks above any bottomless pits. Of course, since story details are being kept very tightly under wraps at the moment, our concerns may be premature. "Spaceballs 2" does not yet have a firm release date, but it is scheduled to bow sometime in 2027. The 5 best TV shows to watch with your dad this Father's Day

The 5 best TV shows to watch with your dad this Father's Day Show Caption Hide Caption The surprising origins of Father's Day The very first Father's Day in America was celebrated on June 19, 1910, in the state of Washington. unbranded - Lifestyle Get out the grill accessories, the tacky ties and the golf clubs, because Sunday, June 15 is Father's Day. The annual holiday celebrating all things dad is a great day to spend barbecuing, going to a ball game or just hanging out on the couch with the old man, binge-watching a show that has his very same vibes. We're talking science fiction, history, cop shows, spy shows and, of course, Gary Oldman. We're talking shows that celebrate the bond between father and child (or father and adopted alien), shows that celebrate the very best of dads and men everywhere, and shows that contain no awkward moments or mature content that will have you hiding behind your hands in embarrassment. We're talking "Star Wars," "Star Trek" and hours of entertainment that will bring you and your father closer together. Please enjoy our top five picks for shows to watch with your dad this Father's Day, giving him the gift of something you can talk (and argue about) over dinner. If your dad likes 'Star Wars': 'The Mandalorian' "Star Wars" and "dads" go together like blue milk and Luke Skywalker, and have since the first film came out in 1977. The recent group of TV series from Disney's Lucasfilm has also landed squarely in the paternal category, particularly the first and most literal dad show of them all: "The Mandalorian." Pedro Pascal's helmeted galactic warrior is doing dad duty to young Grogu, aka "Baby Yoda," a little green Force-wielding toddler who likes to eat frogs and cause mayhem. A gritty and violent tale about what a father would do to protect his child from a big, bad world, "Mandalorian" is gruff and lovable all at once. It's a genre Pascal is acutely suited to, and can also be seen in his HBO post-apocalyptic zombie series, "The Last of Us" (streaming on Max), albeit with far more gore. How to watch 'The Mandalorian' Seasons 1-3 now streaming on Disney+ If your dad prefers 'Star Trek': 'Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' If your dad is more "Trekkie" than "rebel scum," it's worth checking out the very best "Trek" series of this century. "Strange" is everything that is good about the franchise spawned by Gene Roddenberry's hopeful 1960s sci-fi series, without the annoying baggage. "Strange" is colorful, joyful, surprising and nostalgic all at once, chronicling the voyages of the Enterprise captained by Chris Pike (Anson Mount) in the years before a certain Captain Kirk came aboard (a young version of James Kirk shows up now and again, played by Paul Wesley). Captain Pike gives off serious dad energy as he leads the crew of the iconic starship through the final frontier. The series includes young and aptly cast versions of Spock (Ethan Peck), Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding) and Nurse Chapel (Jess Bush) as well as likable new characters. How to watch 'Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' Seasons 1-2 now streaming on Paramount+. Season 3 premieres July 17. If your dad is super into World War II history: 'Masters of the Air' Produced by the same team that brought dads HBO's "Band of Brothers" and "The Pacific," Apple TV+'s meticulous 2024 epic details the story of airmen diligently fighting in World War II. The slick series, populated with young up-and-comer actors led by Austin Butler, Barry Keoghan and Anthony Boyle, follows men from the 100th Bomber Group, who flew dangerous raids into enemy territory and were far more likely than infantrymen to be killed or missing in action. The nine-part limited series tells a harrowing and sobering story with a perspective you may not have seen before, even in all those World War II dramas of decades past. How to watch 'Masters of the Air' Now streaming on Apple TV+. If your dad is into spy stuff: 'Slow Horses' Gary Oldman is probably your dad's favorite actor. It's just one of the immutable dad facts, and his skill is on display in this British spy black comedy set in Slough House, where all the disgraced and washed-out spies are sent by the clandestine British service. It's meant to be a place of administrative drudgery with zero action, and yet, led by the affectionately abrasive Jackson Lamb (Oldman), Slough House and its slow horses somehow get involved in some of the most important cases of the moment. Come for Oldman, stay for the rest of the charming cast and the tongue-in-cheek humor. How to watch 'Slow Horses' Seasons 1-4 now streaming on Apple TV+. The series has been renewed for a fifth season, due in September. If your dad likes easy watching: 'Bosch' Amazon Prime Video is known for making an entire subgenre of TV affectionately referred to as "dad shows." They include "Jack Ryan," "Reacher," "Patriot" and the original dad show to out-dad-show them all: "Bosch." Based on the books by Michael Connelly about LAPD detective Harry Bosch (brought to life in glowering glory by Titus Welliver), it features a cop who plays by the rules when they are convenient but follows his own moral code. Welliver's husky, haggard portrayal of the detective has kept the series going for seven seasons (2015-21), and inspired two spinoffs, "Bosch: Legacy" (essentially a sequel) and the upcoming "Ballard" (streaming July 9). How to watch 'Bosch' Seasons 1-7 now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Maxville Community Market worth checking out

The Friday Market located at King George Park in the village of Maxville has much to offer shoppers looking for locally grown produce, handcrafted pieces, unique gift items and freshly baked goods. The Market was established in 2010 and has continued to operate ever year in town from the middle of May to October on Fridays from 2:00-6:00p.m. The outdoor market even managed to stay open during the pandemic, under the guidance of Audrey Evans and the cooperation of the vendors & shoppers, using directional arrows and taped off distances. For 12 years, Kate Hakboort has been responsible for the Avonmore Berry Farm shop, which has participated in the Market since its inception. Kate feels that being part of the Maxville Community Market is worthwhile; from selling a bounty of products such as vegetables and jams, to connecting with residents from the community and networking with local businesses. In addition, the popup market provides opportunity to invite shoppers to visit the Avonmore Berry Farm shop where some of the tastiest pies from the area are baked. Sadie & June has a permanent storefront in the village of Maxville, but also participates in the Friday Market. The shop opened on Main Street in July 2024 and offers unique Canadian gift items, framed art and custom-designed t-shirts – all with a Glengarry flair. Since travel and adventure are important to their own story, Andrew & Kendall, owners of the store, create hand-stitched, framed maps. Choose your most memorable spot, and they will stitch a single heart, connecting hearts or a meaningful word on a map anywhere in the world. A large sampling of everything the shop has to offer was available at the Market. Catherine ten Den from Thomas Treasures is a one-stop-shop with baked goods, handmade soaps, creatively printed & custom-cut repurposed books and the most beautiful hand-cut cards. From a garden of flowers that popup to intricate detailed designs depicting animals and patterns, these cards are one-of-a-kind pieces of art anyone would appreciate. Lilac Lane Garden is participating for the first time in 2025. Katelyn and Emma Padbury are first-generation farmers offering handmade soaps, dog treats, locally produced maple syrup, raspberry plants and microgreens. Katelyn & Emma started their venture with a small vegetable stand and are growing their business to include more products as they discover what the community is looking for. As their website says, 'Farm fresh and made with love' in everything they do. Christine from the General Market in St. Isadore is taking part in the Market for the second year. The General Market is a corner store offering grocery market goods with locally produced meats and produce, along with grab-and-go pasta & potato salads and fresh soups. Christine also supports feeding hungry families in both Maxville and Riceville by donating to the food drop boxes. Christine shares eggs and any products that are close to their best before dates to do her part to help the community. Edna Sinclair from Muddy Toes Organics is a local permaculture farmer who has been part of the Market for more than four years. Edna sells herbs and plants in her popup market, but is also involved in teaching workshops and sharing her knowledge on the health benefits of herbal teas and how to make special blends. Edna Sinclair believes in growing everything the old-fashioned way and doing much of the work by hand. She can help customers source specialty plants and assist in getting the new plants put into the garden. Jocelyne Gratton, a local Avon representative is in her third year at the Market with assorted Avon products available for sale. Shoppers can even get some Thai food from Thum's Kitchen to take home for dinner after stopping in to shop. Although Spring is a little late and the first Fridays have been burdened with rain, the dedicated vendors at the Maxville Community Market have been popping up their tents and displaying their products for sale. This conveniently-located Market is worth the effort of visiting to browse the tents and see what is on offer – shoppers are sure to find something.
