Summon servers on hunt for Conor McGregor over Miami restroom sexual battery allegations

Sunday World28-04-2025

The summons was issued by Florida's Southern District Court on January 15 and is valid for service within 100 days of that date
Irish court officials have instructed agents in this country to locate disgraced MMA star Conor McGregor and serve a summons on him, alleging sexual battery, which has been issued by a US court.
The summons, once served, will require McGregor to finally respond to a claim he attempted to orally and anally sexually assault a woman in a restroom in the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida on June 9 and 10, 2023.
The summons was issued by Florida's Southern District Court on January 15 and is valid for service within 100 days of that date.
In the event the summons is not served within the 100-day deadline, an extension must be sought by the woman's lawyers.

It's understood Florida-based lawyer James R. Dunn, who represents McGregor's accuser, forwarded the summons to the Central Office of the High Court earlier this year.
An agreement under The Hague Convention allows for a civil summons issued by a US court to be served by agents in this country once instructed by Ireland's Court Service.
It's understood an Irish court official has since confirmed receipt of the summons and has instructed agents in this country to carry out service on McGregor.
Contacted this week, Mr Dunn said he could not comment on the legal proceedings at this time.
Once service of the summons is carried out, McGregor will have 21 days to respond to the graphic allegations of sexual battery made against him in Florida.
The US lawsuit follows on from the recent civil rape case taken against McGregor by Nikita Hand, which he lost.
The US case alleges McGregor sexually assaulted a woman, identified as Jane Doe, on June 9, 2023, as the Miami Heat played the Denver Nuggets in Game 4 of the NBA Finals.
The complaint alleges that at the end of the game McGregor engaged in amicable conversation with Jane Doe while Kaseya Center staff and security provided the fighter with access to one or more bottles of Proper 12 Irish Whiskey and Tequila.
The complaint states, it was at this stage: 'Jane Doe's acquaintance stated 'we are leaving,' and, Conor Anthony McGregor's private security or a friend of Conor Anthony McGregor stated, 'Conor told me to come get you,' and grabbed Jane Doe's wrist and led Jane Doe and the acquaintance toward the exit of the Courtside club.
'Before leaving the Courtside Club, Conor Anthony McGregor's friend or security stopped at the entrance to the men's bathroom.
'Jane Doe requested of the friend to let go of her wrist and he said, 'No, Conor will kill me if I lose you'.
'Conor Anthony McGregor then exited the men's bathroom and grabbed Jane Doe's hand or wrist and led her into the men's restroom with her acquaintance to follow.'
The complaint continues: 'At that point Conor Anthony McGregor led Jane Doe to the stall, but Kaseya Centre Staff and Security would not let Jane Doe's acquaintance into the stall.
'The loud DJ music in the Courtside club and in the bathroom, area made communicating difficult.

The complaint also alleges that while Jane Doe was using the toilet, McGregor 'appeared to Jane Doe to be under the influence of intoxicants and out of control' and that he attempted to force her into oral sex.
'Thereafter, Jane Doe pulled her pants up and stood up and attempted to exit the stall,' the complaint states.
The filed legal papers then claim the UFC star 'slammed Jane Doe against the wall face first and put Jane Doe in an arm lock' before attempting to 'forcefully' have anal sex with her.
'Jane Doe returned to the Courtside club as she was waiting on her acquaintance to leave the venue.'
The document continues that McGregor 'intentionally engaged in unlawful sexual contact' and it states she is seeking in excess of the jurisdictional threshold of the court of $75,000.
It also says the identity of the complainant, referred to in the complaint as 'Jane Doe,' 'is known to McGregor; however, she wishes to maintain her anonymity … to avoid embarrassment and shame from the conduct discussed in this complaint.
The legal complaints describes her as being '49 years old, and employed as a Senior Wall Street vice president at a high-profile financial institution'.
The allegations against McGregor were investigated by police at the time and the Miami-Dade State Attorney declined to press charges against McGregor, who said the allegations were false.
Police said they spoke to witnesses who said Jane Doe didn't show 'signs of distress' and seemed 'fine,' with the head of security stating that she went back to her seat and continued socialising with McGregor.
McGregor's attorney, Barbara Llanes, previously dismissed the complaint, saying: 'After a thorough investigation at the time, the State's Attorney concluded there was no case to pursue.
'Almost two years and at least three lawyers later the plaintiff has a new false story. We are confident that this case too will be dismissed.'

Irish sports star joins Love Island 2025 cast after last-minute shake-up

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info An Irish sports star has officially joined the Love Island 2025 cast - after a shock last-minute shake-up saw one original Islander pulled from the line-up just days before launch. Kyle Ashman was set to enter the villa in Mallorca alongside 11 other sexy singletons - but he was suddenly axed from the line-up over a previous arrest yesterday. An ITV spokesperson confirmed: "For personal reasons, Kyle will not be entering the Love Island Villa as planned". And now, in a surprise twist, 25-year-old professional rugby player Conor Phillips from Limerick has swooped in to take his place. The former Munster Academy man, who was part of Ireland's Grand Slam winning under-20 squad in 2019, made two senior appearances for the province in the 2022/23 season. He now plays in the All-Island League for Terenure, and he has also appeared for Ireland's Sevens side - much like fellow Limerick man and former Love Island winner Greg O'Shea. The confident winger says he's after "someone who is really sure of themselves, ambitious, a bit of a go-getter and good craic" - and revealed he doesn't mind "a dominant woman". But don't expect him to be clingy. "I don't like to answer to anyone else. I like to do my own thing", he admitted, adding that being "too needy" is his biggest ick. He described himself as the "class clown type vibe", and joked his love life would be called 'Still Trying' - "it's got to be a rugby pun, hasn't it?" And while he says he'd be "keeping my head above water" in the dating world, he's ready to settle down and "invest in some stocks". As for his flirting style? "I ask girls if they want to go halves on a baby… it doesn't work, but it gets them laughing." Conor becomes the second Irish contestant confirmed for this year's Love Island series, which kicks off Monday, June 9 on Virgin Media Two and Virgin Media Play. He'll be joined by Megan Forte, a 24-year-old musical theatre performer and panto star originally from Dublin. Now living in Brighton, Megan describes herself as bubbly and is looking for a man with a great sense of humour - and says she's more than happy with a "dad bod". The full 2025 cast includes Almia Gagigo, Helena Ford, Megan, Megan Moore, Shakira Khan and Sophie Lee, who will be coupling up with Conor, Ben Holbrough, Bly Chegini, Dejon Noel-Williams, Harry Cooksley and Tommy Bradley. Woman who died after Cork City Marathon made people feel special, father tells mourners

The young woman who died after running the Cork City Marathon at the weekend didn't lead with her elbows, but with open arms, her heartbroken father said. 'That made her stand out, that made her special and made everyone that came into contact with her feel special,' Ellen Cassidy's father, Tom, told mourners at her 'goodbye mass' in Blackpool on Thursday. 'The result of this approach to life was what we had last night - a nine-hour wake, a full church today. Honestly, we never expected what we have seen and experienced over the last 48 hours, but it's the result of putting others first.' An elite swimmer, Ellen, 24, from the Old Mallow Road, Cork, fell ill close to the half marathon finish line on St Patrick's Street on Sunday. She got immediate medical attention but was pronounced dead at Cork University Hospital later. As requested by her family, people came to her funeral mass in The Church of the Annunciation, Blackpool, on Thursday wearing colourful outfits, many clutching freshly cut sunflowers, roses, and carnations, to celebrate her life and say goodbye. Mourners were led by her devastated parents, Violet and Tom, her sister, Mary, her brother, Charlie, her boyfriend, Rob, her grandparents, Joan, Billy and Tom, her extended family and a wide circle of friends. Among the gifts brought to the altar symbolising her passions in life were her Milan marathon medal, her Irish swim caps, sheets of piano music, a seashell representing her love of Alvor, the sea, and travel, and a heart symbol representing her love for her friends. Ellen Cassidy had a love for music, piano, and especially swimming. In a moving eulogy, Mr Cassidy told mourners about her journey from Rathpeacon NS, through St Angela's College, Bruce College, UCD and then the switch to UCC during covid to study business information systems, and of her love for music, piano, but especially swimming. Ellen joined Dolphin Swimming Club in Mayfield aged nine, breaking several club records in her time there, and represented Ireland at the European Youth Olympics in 2015. She was part of the Mardyke Arena UCC's Emerging Talent Programme in 2018, and debuted that year at the European Junior Championships in the 200m backstroke in Helsinki. She was joint chairperson of the UCC Swimming Club and the organisation of the Inter Varsities Swimming Championship in Cork in 2024. She began working with PwC in cybersecurity last September. Mr Cassidy revealed how his wife found their daughter's diary on Tuesday in a place they would never think to look. 'It was as if she wanted us to find it after she passed away,' he said, before reading the entry from March 11, 2021 – Ellen's 20th birthday. Chicken wings to die for, they will be gotten again, most definitely, whereas the Prosecco on the other hand, easy to drink, but by God I felt ill this morning," she wrote. 'Not ideal with my assignment due next week, which of course I still haven't started. I need to actually realise I am now 20. F**k, 20-years old now. No-one is going to do things for me anymore. 'I need to focus on myself, my body, my mind, my mental health, my physical health. It all needs to be looked after by me now. I'm not a child anymore. I have to stop acting as it everyone else is going to do it for me. They're not. 'Ellen it's all you, step up, be brave. If you fail, you fail. But step out of your comfort zone. Don't follow the crowd. I know it's easier said than done, but you will never know the person you could be if you don't try and step up. 'In the next 10 years, you'll be finished college. Working, maybe. In a relationship? Travelling? Swimming? Buying a house? Driving a car? You will never know what life will throw at you but you must embrace it. 'Make choices, make decisions, and don't look back. Follow your gut. Otherwise you will never learn. You won't grow into the person you were meant to be. Small things make a huge difference. All I want is for everything to be perfect. My family. That is what I want. 'But can it be? We need to try harder. No-one will love, accept or support you more than your mother, father, brother and sister. 'I am lucky. I am so lucky to have them. We are lucky to have each other. We need to realise that. I just want mum, dad, Charlie, Mary, and myself to be happy.' A mourner holding flowers in the guard of honour for Ellen Cassidy by local running and swimming clubs. Picture: Larry Cummins Mr Cassidy recalled too how on the day before she died, Ellen sent her mother a message saying she would choose her to be her mum in every lifetime, again and again and again, before he pleaded directly to Ellen's friends to call to their home in the difficult months ahead. 'We don't want this to be the end of the road with the friendships Ellen has forged, but rather it be the continuation,' she said. 'Please call in, have a coffee, share your amazing stories, the fun you had with Ellen, to help us through what we know will be a long road to some sort of normality in our lives.' After Bishop Emeritus John Buckley said final prayers, Ellen's family and friends placed flowers atop her wicker coffin, placed their hands on it gently, and then walked it from the church through a guard of honour outside formed by her long-term swimming club mates. As the hearse moved away, it passed a long guard of honour formed by dozens of runners from clubs across the city, all wearing their club colours, to the Island Crematorium in Ringaskiddy for a private ceremony.
