I lived in a caravan for 8 years to afford my dream home – now everyone assumes I'm rich but I saved thousands on rent
TRYING to get onto the housing ladder is no mean feat, and many people have to make some sacrifices when it comes to it.
From tightening up the budget, and reducing the spending on some of life's luxuries, managing to find the money can take quite some time.
But one woman managed to bag her dream home by making some sacrifices.
Leonie, who is known as ' building_ribbons ' on TikTok, shared a video on her social media account explaining how she lived in a caravan for eight years to be able to afford her dream home.
She went on to explain that people now assume that she is rich because of it, but instead she just managed to save thousands on rent.
Speaking to her 122.7k TikTok followers, Leonie did a tour of her home which was in the countryside.
The kitchen was large and open plan with an island in the middle, and wooden beams in the ceiling giving a luxurious touch to it.
She also had large glass doors which looked out onto her garden, and allowed for plenty of sunlight to shine through.
Her video also showed her bathroom, which had a standalone large bath in it as well as her living space which had a fireplace lit to give a warm cosy touch to it.
Having so much garden space also allows her to keep animals on it including a goat, and two dogs which her son plays with.
Leonie explained that it was self-built in the English countryside and she was able to style it whilst also doing some bargain hunting.
Speaking to her followers, she adds that 'you guys probably think I'm rich but in reality we spent eight years living in a caravan to achieve the dream of building our own home and it was so worth it.'

Revealing that she is a 'country girl at heart,' Leonie loves that she can spend time with her family, horses, animals, and "gorgeous son'.
Her video, which was shared in October, has gained 105.6k views and gained 67 comments.
One person who was in a similar situation, wrote: 'I spent 10 years in our Mobil while we built our home. It was worth it, no mortgage.'
Whilst a second complimented her "beautiful home' saying that her situation was 'a dream.'
A third asked: 'Your home is beautiful, can you please talk us through how you found the land and the process of building?
'Also, did you live in the caravan on the land?'
Leonie replied: 'We already owned the land….. planning took us nearly 10 years…the build took around 18 months. Yea we lived on site.'

They might not be smart enough to wear out to dinner, but their sleek, minimalistic design means they're certainly nice enough to wear out to brunch or to run errands. They tick the box that I think all good gym gear should tick: they make you excited to do exercise. Gym+Coffee: Quickfire Q&A How much is it? Moderately priced, if you ask me. My T-shirt was £30, shorts were £40 and the quarter-zip mid layer was £60. Who's it best for? People who like their workout clothes to do the heavy lifting outside the gym as well as in. What we loved: Every item feels really well-made, the sizing is spot-on and it's a welcome change from a sea of Gymshark and Lululemon. I also thought it was really What we didn't: Honestly? Not much. There are a lot of stock issues at the moment, which makes ordering a pain. It's also a nice design touch to include a raglan sleeve, which extends in one piece up to your collar, rather than stopping at the shoulder. It gives you a bigger range of movement than an ordinary sleeve. While that's nothing groundbreaking, it just shows an attention to detail that I appreciate. Other neat little features include a size pocket with an invisible zip and thumb holes. It says a lot that it's recieved nothing but five-star reviews on the Gym+Coffee site, and that's from 50+ reviews — no mean feat. I think I echo the sentiments of this review: "Fits like a glove. Nice and tight on the arms and chest while not showing off the dad gut. Love it. Highly recommend." Essential 6" Shorts in Petrol Blue Essential 6" Shorts in Petrol Blue, £40 from Gym + Coffee BUY HERE I've always liked a shorter short, especially for working out, but it's worth mentioning that Gym + Coffee sells two versions of these shorts: a six-inch version and an eight-inch version. Weirdly, though, if you have your heart set on Petrol Blue, you'll have to be happy to show some thigh — you can't get the colour in the eight-inch shorts. As with the quarter zip, there's an attention to detail here I like. They have the sort of thick waistband I usually associate with yoga pants, for example, which helps them to stay in place during high-intensity sports. And as a person whose primary form of exercise is tennis, I appreciated that I could fit two tennis balls in the pockets. Some reviewers have called these the best shorts they've ever worn, and I have to agree — they're comfortable, lightweight, and made from a fabric that feels soft, stretchy and high-quality.

Students campaign for school uniform rule changes in Northern Ireland
Rhea and Astrid, who are both 11-years-old, are two school pupils on a mission. The friends, from County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland, successfully campaigned for their school to change its uniform rules, so girls can choose between wearing skirts and they are trying to persuade the Northern Irish government to change the law so that every school has to offer the choice of whether to wear skirts or trousers to their and Astrid said it's "weird and unfair" that some schools still enforce told the BBC: "I didn't really like being made to wear a skirt, it just felt wrong. It's 2025".And Astrid said, she thought it was "important to have the choice for our privacy and for our comfort". Some schools in Northern Ireland, and around the rest of the UK, already allow girls to have a choice between wearing trousers and others still make skirts compulsory for female pupils. Astrid and Rhea's school changed its policy after the girls wrote a letter with the help of Dr Mairead Ryan, a mental health campaigner. Her research outlined a link between school uniforms and physical Ryan said: "Gendered uniforms can limit girls' movement and engagement in physical activities.""Uniform items like dresses and skirts can restrict certain movements and inhibit young girls from climbing, jumping, and participating in other forms of active play that are crucial for their development," she added."It's quite hard to run around without your skirt blowing up in the wind," Rhea added."All schools have the power to change it so if you have the power, then I think you probably should." The Minister for Education of Northern Ireland, Paul Givan, told BBC News the decision lies with individual schools and their boards of Rhea and Astrid have now taken their case to the home of the Northern Ireland government, Stormont, where they spoke at an education committee looking into broad changes to school uniform Quinn, Northern Ireland's Commissioner for Children and Young People, said: "The girls have articulated in their words how wearing trousers would make such a big difference.
