India Gazette2 days ago

New Delhi [India], May 29 (ANI): Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi said that Diu is a national example in renewable energy adoption, with its entire daytime electricity demand being met through solar energy, said a statement from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy on Thursday.
The Minister also congratulated Diu on its exceptional milestone as the first district in India to meet its entire power demand with solar energy, achieving 11.88 MW (9 MW ground-mounted + 2.88 MW rooftop) capacity.
Joshi visited Diu today to review its remarkable progress in solar energy adoption and assess the implementation of the PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
The Minister chaired a high-level meeting at Diu, with senior officials of the UT administration to review the status of solar energy generation, its current supply framework, and future expansion prospects.
During the meeting, T Arun, Energy Secretary of the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, made a detailed presentation on existing solar energy plants, their production capacities, and household-level benefits. He informed the Minister that a large number of families in the UT are now benefiting from solar energy.
Later, the Minister undertook a field visit to key solar energy facilities in Diu, including the 9 MW Solar Park located in Fudam. The Solar Park stands as a symbol of Diu's sustainable transition and plays a vital role in meeting the region's clean energy requirements.
The Minister noted that the Fudam solar park has contributed significantly to reducing transmission and distribution (T&D) losses and enabled the revision of electricity tariffs, making them more affordable for consumers.
He also praised UT Administrator Praful Patel's leadership, stating that his proactive approach and vision have been instrumental in realising this clean energy transformation.
Speaking on the long-term impact, the Minister remarked that the capital investments made over the past decade in renewable energy infrastructure in Diu have already been recovered through the supply and sale of solar power.
He called for even faster and more effective implementation of the PM-Surya Ghar Yojana to maximise its benefits for the residents of the Union Territory and achieve total household saturation.
The visit reaffirmed the Government of India's commitment to accelerating clean energy deployment in every part of the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. (ANI)

War not about losses, but making enemy kneel: Union Minister on Operation Sindoor

Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Saturday responded to the recent remarks made by Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan regarding Indian Air Force (IAF) losses during Operation Sindoor, a military operation against Pakistan earlier this to India Today in Jaipur, Shekhawat stated that the focus should not be on the number of losses but on the outcome of the operation. advertisement"I think that war is not a matter of counting one's losses. War is judged by the way, under what circumstances, the other side bowed down and made a compromise with you. We forced Pakistan to make a compromise, ceasefire and show favour in four days by making it kneel without any conditions. I think this topic is more important," Shekhawat said. The statement comes hours after India's top military officer admitted that India lost fighter jets during the initial phase of Operation Sindoor on May 7. Speaking to Bloomberg during the Shangri-La Dialogue, he emphasised that while some jets were downed, the key takeaway was the military's ability to swiftly identify and correct tactical errors."What is important is that, not the jet being down, but why they were being down... Why they were down, what mistakes were made - that are important. Numbers are not important," General Chauhan also dismissed Pakistani Prime Minister's claims that six Indian jets, including four Rafales, were downed as "absolutely incorrect."Chauhan also stressed that the operation did not escalate into a nuclear conflict and that communication channels between India and Pakistan remained open throughout the hostilities to manage a separate statement to Reuters, General Chauhan reaffirmed that the early-stage losses prompted immediate strategic adjustments. 'We analysed what went wrong, rectified our approach, and went back stronger,' he the armed forces had deflected questions about Indian jets being shot down by Pakistan. In an earlier interview, Air Marshal AK Bharti, Director General of Air Operations, echoed a similar sentiment in a press conference, said, 'Losses are a part of any combat scenario. All our pilots are back, and we achieved our operational objectives decisively.'Must Watch

India On Track To Eradicating Maoism By Next Year? What The Numbers Show

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has repeatedly said that the government is committed to eradicating Maoism from India by March 2026, and the goal got a fillip when at least 27 Maoists - including top leader Nambala Keshavrao alias Basavaraju, who carried a bounty of Rs 1.5 crore - were killed in an encounter in Chhattisgarh earlier this month. Data accessed by NDTV shows that the government and the security forces are inching closer towards the target of ending the Maoist movement, which began in 1967. Home ministry data reveals that there were 1,936 incidents of Maoist violence in 2010, which came down to just 374 in 2024 - a drop of 81%. The number of Maoist-affected districts has also seen a steep fall, going from 126 in 2013 to 70 in 2021 and just 18 as of April this year. Death Count Decreasing Too In terms of civilian deaths in Maoist violence, the number was 720 in 2010, came down to 150 in 2019 and stood at 131 last year, up from 106 in 2023. There have been 19 such deaths until March this year. When the aggregate of deaths of civilians and security forces' personnel is taken into account, the figure was 1,005 in 2010 and went down by 85% to 150 last year. Infrastructure Targeting Over the years, Maoists have been targeting infrastructure such as railway property, public and private sector units, telephone exchanges, mobile towers, roads and schools. These incidents have also decreased from 365 in 2010 to 75 in 2017, and just 25 in 2024. Naxals Killed According to reports, over 150 Maoists have been killed in just the first few months of this year. The figure was 136 in 2017, went up to 380 in 2023 and stood at 290 last year. After the encounter in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur earlier this month, Home Minister Shah had said it was the first time in three decades that a general secretary of the CPI-Maoist had been killed. "Also glad to share that after the completion of Operation Black Forest, 54 Naxalites have been arrested and 84 Naxalites have surrendered in Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Maharashtra. The Modi government is resolved to eliminate Naxalism before the 31st of March 2026," he had said.
