NMDC shares tumble 3% after sequential profit drop in Q4. Should you stay invested?
Shares of
NMDC
fell as much as 2.8% on Wednesday to Rs 70.70 on the BSE after the state-owned miner reported a sharp sequential decline of 23% in March-quarter earnings, triggering concerns over cost pressures and pricing headwinds. The profit drop came despite healthy year-on-year growth in revenue and sales volumes.
NMDC posted a standalone net profit of Rs 1,496.16 crore for the quarter ended March 2025, rising just over 2% from Rs 1,462.03 crore a year earlier. However, the profit marked a 23% fall from Rs 1,943.51 crore in the preceding December quarter, reflecting the impact of weaker

Brokerage Motilal Oswal retained its 'buy' rating on NMDC stock but flagged concerns over margin compression, adding that the state-owned miner missed its earnings estimates driven by high expenses.
'4QFY25 revenue came in line with our estimate at Rs 70 billion, up 8% YoY and 7% QoQ, primarily driven by healthy volumes and NSR growth,' the brokerage said. It added, 'EBITDA stood at Rs 20.5 billion (-2% YoY and -14% QoQ) against our estimate of Rs 24.5 billion, dragged down by high other expenses.'
The brokerage noted that the iron ore production was 13.3 MT (flat YoY and QoQ), while sales stood at 12.7 MT (+1% YoY and +6% QoQ). Average selling price (ASP) during the quarter was Rs 5,530 per tonne, up 7% year-on-year and flat sequentially.
'APAT for the quarter stood at Rs 14.8 billion (+3% YoY and -22% QoQ) against our estimate of Rs 19.8 billion,' the brokerage noted.
Amitava Mukherjee, Chairman and Managing Director, NMDC, said the company remains on track to achieve its long-term capacity targets. 'Our focus has always been on consistent, year-on-year progress to reach the final milestone of 100 MTPA in the next five years.'
He added that in the current quarter, NMDC's focus remains on 'innovation, sustainability, and value creation' as it works toward strategic growth goals.
Shares of NMDC had gained nearly 11% over the past month and are up around 10.5% year-to-date.

Chandigarh MC collects record property tax during 2-month rebate period
1 2 Chandigarh: The Chandigarh municipal corporation has achieved an unprecedented property tax collection of approximately Rs 60 crore during April and May rebate period. Citizens submitted payments via e-Sampark Centres and banks, with e-Sampark Centres, which operated until 8pm on Saturday, receiving the majority of payments. The final figures might increase slightly, but this collection marks the highest amount ever received during a two-month rebate period. The detailed breakdown of residential and commercial property tax collections will be published on Monday after data compilation. Sources indicate that whilst commercial properties contributed the larger share of the amount, residential property owners represented the highest number of taxpayers. "As the rates of commercial property tax are substantially higher than the residential properties, the collected amount of commercial property tax is relatively higher than the residential tax category. On the other hand, the maximum taxpayers fall in the residential taxpayers category," sources in the MC said. Official records indicate that e-Sampark Centres collected approximately Rs 48 crore, whilst banks received around rupees 12 crore. About 65,000 taxpayers participated during April and May, with roughly 51,000 from residential properties and the remainder from commercial establishments. The tax branch officials worked diligently over these two months, encouraging taxpayers to utilise the rebate period. The MC addressed numerous queries from taxpayers who visited their office during this period. The previous year's collection during April and May 2024 was approximately rupees 39 crore, with lower tax rates. Following the Chandigarh administration's decision to double property tax rates in April, the MC anticipates collecting around rupees 70 crore this financial year, excluding arrears. Currently, Chandigarh has 1.42 lakh properties, comprising 1.12 lakh residential and 30,000 commercial properties. The rebate period concluded on May 31, and those who missed the deadline must now pay a 25% penalty on their total property tax amount, plus 12% interest. During the rebate period, residential properties received a 20% rebate, whilst commercial properties received 10%.

Over 3,000 new vehicles hit Telangana roads daily as public transport takes backseat
Hyderabad: In the wake of inadequate public transport systems, poor last-mile connectivity, and commuters' preference for personal vehicles, Telangana is witnessing rapid growth in vehicle registrations, with the state recording more than 3,000 new private vehicles daily on its road network. According to data from the regional transport authority (RTA), Telangana added nearly one million vehicles to its roads over the past year. The total number of vehicles increased from 1.63 crore at the end of the 2023–24 financial year to 1.73 crore by March 31 this year. If that were not enough, the state has added as many as 30 lakh vehicles over the past four years. Of the total 1.73 crore vehicles, Greater Hyderabad accounts for half, with approximately 85 lakh vehicles. The city's vehicular population has seen massive growth, rising from 25 lakh vehicles twelve years ago. By 2018, private vehicles (two-wheelers and four-wheelers) had reached 50 lakh in the city, with the number of cars exceeding 10 lakh in the same year. "Telangana has been recording sustained growth in vehicle numbers over the years. The development of quality infrastructure, along with the state's emergence as a major IT hub, has facilitated this increase. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo With the city's expansion, there has also been significant migration. A few years ago, daily vehicle registrations stood at around 1,000, but these figures have steadily risen and now exceed 1,500 registrations per day in Hyderabad," said a senior RTA official. Traffic experts state that inadequate public transport and poor connectivity are fuelling the rise in private vehicle ownership. With the city's population reaching an estimated 1.2 crore, public transport serves less than one-third of the total population. Daily passenger data shows that RTC accommodates over 25 lakh commuters, the metro rail transports 5 lakh passengers, and SCR's MMTS operations cater to around 50,000 people each day. The remainder rely on private vehicles. "The increasing number of vehicles on the existing road infrastructure raises concerns about worsening traffic congestion. Furthermore, the surge in high-speed vehicles suggests a probable rise in accidents. Statistics indicate a consistent increase in road accidents across the state. Authorities should prioritise RTC buses on high-traffic routes to improve their efficiency and encourage the public to opt for public transport over private vehicles," said TS Reddy, a retired official from the central road research institute and transport planning expert.
