Review: New Argentinian restaurant in Virginia Beach packs big flavor

Yahoo16-02-2025

A cozy Argentinian restaurant opened about four months ago near the Newtown area of Virginia Beach.
Tango Bites, owned by Chris and Alba Constante, offers a small menu consisting of three appetizers, four sandwiches — including grilled chicken and beef or chicken milanesa — and four salad options. Dine in at one of the five tables or call ahead and take out lunch or dinner. Prepare to wait; made-to-order food takes a while to cook.
I didn't mind the wait on my two recent visits. All the appetizers and two sandwiches were worth it.
Chef Chris Constante, whose father is from Argentina, has mastered a juicy chicken empanada ($3.50) that will go down in my book as one of the best in the 757. I had to examine the inside to make sure it was poultry. I confirmed that it was and continued eating with pleasure.
The beef empanada ($3.50) held its own too. Fried, golden crust stuffed with seasoned ground meat never gets old. I could attend an empanada-only party and not miss the other foods. This one would be the star.
I experienced the same gratification after one bite of the skirt steak sandwich ($17). The flavorsome meat was grilled medium, the way I like it, with mostly a tender chew. After a few tough spots, I decided to sample my husband's sausage sandwich ($12). It gave me sandwich envy. I loved the layers of thick, delicious sausage piled on top of lettuce, tomato and slices of red onions. I made a mental note to get it on a future visit.
The restaurant listed the shrimp-stuffed avocado ($12) as an appetizer, but it can serve as a main course. About six to eight grilled shrimp came stuffed in a halved avocado topped with a creamy, herbaceous lime sauce on a bed of shredded romaine lettuce.Fresh, light and — as JJ Evans said on the '70s sitcom 'Good Times' — 'dy-no-mite!'

A Day in the Life of Chris 'The Bear' Fallica at the Belmont Stakes

The Belmont Stakes has officially wrapped up. We all know Sovereignty took first place in the race, but what did the day look like for FOX Sports betting expert Chris 'The Bear' Fallica? Come and see for yourself! It was 9:03 a.m. in New York, meaning it was go-time. First things first, The Bear started his everyday routine by handicapping, getting scratches out and going through the big, multi-race wagers, so it was highlighted for him to keep an eye on throughout the day. Chris then wagered on a Pick 5, as it's the best way to "get the juices flowing" in the early morning. Well, whaddyaknow, a handful of races got canceled and postponed. That just meant he had to improvise and adjust; his Pick 5 would have to wait another day. It was time to head to the Saratoga Race Course. By 1:30 p.m., The Bear had arrived and was ready to get beautified. Three minutes later, his makeup was complete. Fallica was then ready to meet with the Bear Bets producers to discuss the wagers he would make on the show. But before he went on air, he needed to make a quick stop. What good handicapper doesn't have a fedora? That definitely couldn't be Chris. The fun began at 3:05 p.m. as he entered the Saratoga course and, with the help of fans, The Bear found himself the perfect hat. Selfie time! The Bear had many fans he had to attend to, and, of course, had to get in a handful of selfies as he made his way throughout the course. Drinking from the Big Red Spring is a must at the Saratoga Race Course, so obviously Fallica needed to try it. Around 3:30 p.m., it was officially time for the Bear Bets livestream, where fellow FOX Sports betting analysts Sammy P and Geoff Schwartz joined The Bear to film. Following the livestream at 4:07 p.m., Chris hopped in to join FOX Sports' Charissa Thompson and Jonathon Kinchen, helping break down how to bet on the horses. Chris put his money on Journalism. It was then time to make the final pick just before 7 p.m. alongside the analysts. Terry Bradshaw entered the broadcast a few minutes later to watch the race. The horses took off, and in 2 minutes, 0.69 seconds, Sovereignty finished in first place, ahead of Preakness Stakes winner Journalism by three lengths. "They love me even though Sovereignty won," Fallica said. "I have to be a winner. Any time you come out of the day with a hat, it's a successful day, right? Another year until we can do it all over again. Before we even know it, Big Noon college football will be back". Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Artistic head of Hamburg Ballet let go amid work culture complaints

Demis Volpi, a German-Argentinian choreographer, is to step down as artistic director of the world-renowned Hamburg Ballet Company following massive criticism from the ensemble over a "toxic work environment." Volpi's contract will be prematurely terminated following mutual agreement and the 39-year-old is set to leave the company at the end of the season, the local cultural authority in the northern German city said on Tuesday. As part of the agreement, Volpi is set to stop working at the ballet immediately, it said. Volpi, who succeeded the company's founder John Neumeier, a 86-year-old American, a year ago, has been the subject of widespread criticism, including from the company's dancers. In a letter to Hamburg's culture minister, 36 dancers - more than half of the company - accused him of creating a "toxic work environment" as well as a lack of competence. Seventeen former and current dancers at the Dusseldorf-based Ballett am Rhein, where Volpi worked previously, also sent complaints to the Hamburg minister. In response, management at the Hamburg State Opera, which includes the ballet company, launched a risk assessment to question all ensemble members anonymously about their work situation. "My vision - both in artistic terms and with regard to a contemporary structure that enables open and responsible collaboration within a ballet company - could no longer be realized under the current conditions at the Hamburg Ballet, despite intensive efforts," Volpi said. "In the interests of all those involved, we have therefore agreed to end my directorship by mutual consent." Following Volpi's departure, efforts are under way to find an interim artistic director to lead the company until the conclusion of the 2025/26 season.

House Speaker Emanuel "Chris" Welch Brings Back Annual Juneteenth Celebration

WESTCHESTER, Ill., June 10, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Speaker of the Illinois House Emanuel "Chris" Welch is bringing back his annual Juneteenth Celebration. The free event will be a day of family fun, featuring a range of performances, guest appearances, and local vendors selling food, art, and other items. "The importance of celebrating Juneteenth is as important as it's ever been," said Speaker Welch, "As extremists in Washington and across our nation work to erase Black History, we must not only push back in the statehouse, we must also continue to come together with love, joy and understanding, which is exactly what this annual celebration is all about." The event boasts over 50 local vendors and a host of community sponsors, including: PepsiCo, Iron Workers Local 63, IBEW 9, Meridian Health, Rainbow Cone, ABDI, and the Fraternal Order of Police. Featured performers include the Jesse White Tumblers, Simone Green, 1 Soul 1 Tribe, Muntu Dance Theatre, and the Proviso West High School Marching Band. Featured guests include Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias, Comptroller Susana Mendoza, Treasurer Mike Frerichs, Congresswoman Robin Kelly, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, Cook County Clerk Monica Gordon, Sheriff Tom Dart, and many more. There will also be free haircuts by James Blakes the Barber. Juneteenth celebrates and honors African Americans' journey to freedom in America. June 19, 1865, was the day word reached the enslaved in Galveston, Texas, that their emancipation had been made formal, though it had been so since January 1, 1863. That news changed the world for the better. The free Juneteenth Celebration will take place on Thursday, June 19th, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Memorial Park District [639 N. Wolf Road in Hillside] behind Adventure Bay Pool. Adventure Bay Poll will be closed during the time of the event.
