Tenerife, a favourite among Britons for its sunny getaways by the ocean, has seen concerns rise over price escalation on this beloved island. With British visitors representing a significant proportion of international tourism last year, fears about increased costs are mounting.
Responding to worries about over-tourism and environmental preservation, Tenerife has announced an 'eco tax' effective from next year, charging nature enthusiasts who climb Mount Teide, Spain's tallest peak situated on the island.
As costs continue to climb, a British expat working in the travel industry and posting TikTok updates, noted the grumbles of holidaymakers facing more expensive food and beverages due to rising living expenses.

However, this local travel aficionado points out his own contrasting experiences, especially mentioning an outstanding deal for a classic English breakfast at Los Cristianos' LA TASCA 7. At only €4.60 [£3.90], he enjoyed a generous serving featuring bacon, sausages, toast, a tomato, and eggs – willingly skipping the baked beans.
He relished his hearty meal served on a "big plate" with HP sauce by the seaside, branding it an exceptional bargain. His reaction: "That's the price of one pint in the UK and I've got a full English breakfast, in the sun, for [the same price].", reports the Mirror.
Intrigued by the economics, he pondered in his update: "How do they even make money selling it this cheap?".
Enthusiastic commenters have been quick to share their own experiences of Tenerife's budget-friendly dining options. One retorted: "Prices are good in Tenerife. I can't see how people say it's dear... You can find a pint for €1.50 [£1.26] and a breakfast for €3 [£2.52]... and we absolutely love it."
Another offered recollections of their delightful time: "We went there after the markets and it was so nice! Nice spot to people watch, enjoy the view, and was super cheap compared to most other places."
A further contributor added their two pence: "Not bad the price, over here you can't get it for under 8 euros and it's not even that decent."

Be warned, the video below is sprinkled with some strong language.
However, not everyone shared this rosy view. A sceptic remarked: "It used to be cheap for Brits. Not anymore," whilst another commented: "It's not like that in all of Spain, in Tenerife the taxes are way lower than the rest of Spain, don't expect those prices everywhere."
Discussion also turned towards the choice of an English breakfast while abroad, prompting lighthearted jibes from some users. One jestingly inquired: "You in Tenerife and eating English breakfast? You okay?", while another seemed amused by such culinary choices: "It always baffles me why people go to an exotic country to order an English breakfast."
Attention was also drawn to the noticeable absence of beans on the man's plate. "Can't trust no one that don't like beans that's diabolical," a commenter mock lamented.
Another user simply posed the question: "How can anybody not like beans".

Ryanair passenger uses 'genius' hack to get 20kg of luggage free on board

A Ryanair passenger has gone viral on TikTok after finding a 'wild' hack to get 20kg worth of luggage on board without having to pay for an extra bag - but not everyone's a fan Ryanair 's cabin bag fees are infamous; passengers are allowed one small bag in the cabin for free, but if you want a second bag you'll need to pay extra. However, one passenger has gone viral after using a 'wild' hack to get around the rules and bring 20kg of luggage on board without needing to pay extra. ‌ Rob Adcock, a presenter from Stoke-on-Trent, is known for his budget-friendly travel tips and advice. In a recent video, which has since been viewed 2.4million times, he revealed that he paid £15 for his Ryanair flight, and then got his bag in for free. ‌ The trick? Using a vacuum pack machine to compress his clothes. In the video he can be seen lifting the bag of compressed garments, and chuckling before exclaiming, "Look at it!". He then places several of these parcels into his backpack, the free one that's included in his ticket, and then boards the flight. He quipped in the caption: "POV: You've vacuum packed all your suitcase to fit into a free Ryanair bag so you don't have to pay to hold luggage." In the comments section, people seemed a little divided. The majority praised the hack and joked around the fact that it was swerving those pesky fees, but others pointed out that the backpack would be fairly uncomfortable. "Vacuum packed stuff is HEAVY," one person commented with two laughing emojis. Another remarked: "But then all my clothes are creased." Meanwhile others warned they'd seen similar behaviours on their flight, but that those travellers "got caught" and "it didn't end well". (We suspect they would have been hit with some hefty extra charges). One holidaymaker asked a fair question: "How are you supposed to vacuum it back up before going back on the plane when going home?". ‌ It's not the first time that a holidaymaker has tried to find a way around Ryanair's hand luggage rules. In recent years, plenty of travellers have tried tricks such as wearing all of their clothes in one go (a move that Joey Tribbiani would approve of no doubt), or even attempting to put their belongings in a pillowcase, to pass it off as a pillow and therefore not include it as a piece of hand luggage. However, proceed with caution; airline staff are wise to all of these tricks and while you may get lucky and face a member of staff who's happy to turn a blind eye, if you get caught out you could end up having to pay on-the-spot charges for bags which could cost more than what it would have cost to add a bag onto your booking originally. There is a silver lining for families though, as a Ryanair rule change lets you bring 50% more luggage with one special bag, although it's worth noting that this won't count as free hand luggage if you've already got a bag with you, as per the usual rules. In the meantime, Brits heading to the airport with laptops and phones should also make sure they're checking their gadgets, as one simple mistake could mean you get turned away at airport security, ending your holiday before it's even started!

Man flies 1,000 miles to bring pregnant woman Greggs sausage roll she's craving

Pregnant Lauren Nyland and her husband Jamie were met by a surprise visitor whilst holidaying in Portugal as a family member responded to her craving for a Greggs sausage roll A pregnant woman who was craving a Greggs sausage roll whilst holidaying in Portugal has hailed the "hero" who flew to her rescue. Jamie Nyland and his wife, Lauren, shared their joy and disbelief as their dedicated saviour made the 1,000-mile journey to save the day. "I still CANNOT believe this," Jamie admitted on Facebook afterwards. "My wife Lauren had a pregnancy craving two days ago, she really wanted a Greggs sausage roll whilst on holiday. My brother travelled all day all the way to Portugal to bring her it and now is leaving 24 hours after." Jamie shared snaps of an appreciative Lauren holding the goods a loft - a single sausage roll and an additional four pack to tide her over for the rest of the pair's getaway. "What a kind man," he added. "Thank you bro. Have a safe journey home." ‌ ‌ Writing in response, one Facebook user praised: "That's adorable, really nice and sweet of him to do that I couldn't even get my guy to go Morrisons!" A second person added: "There's your godfather right there!" While third declared: "What a hero!" A fourth Facebook user hailed: "That's devotion! Wow unbelievable!" Whilst a fifth concurred: "Very thoughtful and he got to enjoy some sunshine and spend time with the family too." Meanwhile another Facebook user suggested Jamie's brother's actions weren't actually required. "Best of it, you can get them in a British store at retail park near Albufeira shopping centre," the explained. "They have stuff from Waitrose, Co-op and a massive Iceland range, when my family used to live out there they got the stuff they were missing from home like Pringles etc." Jamie later returned to his account to appeal for help in naming their baby, which is due in eight weeks. "So… we've been really stuck with picking a name for our baby," he confessed in a post. "We had [daughter] Arabella's name months before but this time we're so stuck. "We THINK we have just ONE name we like.. but we're not sure. What names match with Arabella and Roman? Also - we seen some people say you won't feel a name until they're born, is this true? Of course, the name Greg was quickly suggested as one Facebook user suggested: "Considering you were craving sausage rolls thousands of miles away and there was a delivery made maybe if a boy call him Greg." Whilst another wrote: "Sometimes you just know when you see that little face looking up at you it just comes to you. I'm sure you will know when the time is right." And a third agreed: "I think when your baby's born you will look and say they look like a name and use that."

Love Island couple split weeks after jetting on romantic holiday together

Love Island fan-favourite couple Ronnie Vint and Harriett Blackmore have split. It comes just days before the new series of the ITV2 dating show starts. Ronnie and Harriett both headed to South Africa earlier this year to appear on Love Island All Stars and rekindled their romance after meeting and falling for one another on the previous series of the show during the summer. However, their rekindled flame appears to have burnt out as it's understood the pair have parted ways again – just weeks after enjoying a romantic holiday in Ibiza together. Both Ronnie, 28, and Harriett, 25, have erased all traces of one another on their Instagram feeds and have also unfollowed one another, too. It comes after fans have been discussing rumours of a split between the pair in recent days, after they noticed the pair's social media activity. It comes just a few weeks after the pair enjoyed a romantic holiday in Ibiza together – posting a TikTok video about their trip. Ahead of the trip, Harriett gushed to Mirror about her romance and upcoming adventure with Ronnie. When asked how things were between the pair, she said: "Super good! We're actually going away on holiday together this week – we're off to Dubai. Everyone keeps asking if it's our first holiday together, and in a way it is… but also, we kind of met on holiday! We've both been crazy busy lately, so I'm excited to get away, just the two of us. It's been a roller coaster, but a good one." The pair had also been planning to move in together this month – but their split will clearly put a stop to those plans. Harriett told us: "Yes! In June. Everything's happening at once. We're moving up towards London, which is exciting. It's really close to Matilda [Draper], so we'll be spending a lot of time with her, and going back and forth." And when asked how she's feeling about the big move, she said: "Actually fine. People say the cracks show when you move in together, but because we met in the villa and lived in each other's pockets every single day, we'd already crossed that bridge. This is just a new chapter."
