'Matter of concern', says Gajendra Shekhawat on arrest of former Rajasthan Minister's aide on spying charges
Jaipur: Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, on Thursday, described the arrest of Shakur Khan, the Personal Assistant of former Rajasthan Minister and MLA Saleh Mohammad, on espionage charges as a matter of grave concern.
Speaking to media, the Union Minister said, "I have just come from a foreign tour and have been informed that the Personal Assistant of Saleh Mohammad, who has been a former Minister, has now been arrested."
He demanded that all those links connected with Khan should be investigated at the earliest and strict action should be taken against those compromising with the security of the country.
Khan was detained on Wednesday night by an Intelligence department team who were acting on security-related inputs.
Khan, who works in the district employment office, was found to have phone numbers associated with Pakistan stored on his device, an official said.
"There were inputs about Shakur Khan that he could be involved in spying for Pakistan. He was on surveillance following inputs and was detained last night," the official added.
A joint questioning was conducted in Jaisalmer following which the Intelligence department team left for Jaipur with Khan.
According to sources, the 'spy' Shakur Khan was working as a Personal Assistant to former Minister Mohammad under the previous Congress government in Rajasthan.
Khan and Mohammad's villages are nearly eight kilometre away from one another, they said.
Mohammad has been a two-time MLA, a Minister, and has fought four elections under the leadership of the previous Ashok Gehlot government.
He is currently the representative of India of the 'Pir Pagara' (a title given to the leader of the Muslim Sufi order of Hurs in Pakistan's Sindh) of Pakistan.

16 Oppn parties urge PM for special session of Parl
New Delhi: In a rare show of unity, 16 opposition parties have come together to demand a special session of Parliament, citing the need for a free and fair discussion on national security issues and foreign policy developments after Operation Sindoor. A joint letter has been sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, underscoring the opposition's collective voice and sense of urgency. Addressing the media, Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Derek O'Brien highlighted that the initiative was not taken merely at the parliamentary party level but was a consensus among the heads of 16 political parties. These include the Congress, Samajwadi Party (SP), DMK, Shiv Sena (UBT), Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (J&K NC), CPI(M), Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), CPI, Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Kerala Congress, MDMK, and CPI(ML). "A free and fair discussion in Parliament is the foundation of a vibrant democracy," said O'Brien. "The government is responsible to Parliament, and Parliament is responsible to the people." He also noted that while the DMK could not attend due to the 100th birth anniversary of the late M Karunanidhi in Tamil Nadu, the party remains fully committed to the initiative. Additionally, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is expected to write separately to the Prime Minister supporting the demand. Congress MP Deepender Hooda explained that the opposition's call for a special session was intensified after the recent ceasefire announcement by the United States in a conflict region. "We want to thank our armed forces in Parliament and discuss what measures are being taken to isolate Pakistan and how we plan to move forward," he said. Sanjay Raut, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP, echoed the sentiment of unity, stating, "We can only go to our Prime Minister. We believe that when the country was facing a threat, we stood together. We hope the PM listens to us and the government doesn't politicise this."

Former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan has accused Army Chief General Asim Munir of jailing his wife, Bushra Bibi, out of personal vendetta after being removed as ISI chief. Remove Ads From behind bars, Imran Khan has launched some of his most scathing accusations yet against Pakistan's military leadership. In a public post on Monday, the former prime minister said Army Chief General Asim Munir was using his power to exact revenge on Khan's wife, Bushra Bibi, following a personal falling claimed the feud dates back to his tenure in office, when he removed Munir from the role of Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). According to Khan, Munir then sought to contact Bibi through back channels.'As Prime Minister, when I removed General Asim Munir from the post of DG ISI, he sought to approach my wife Bushra Bibi through intermediaries to discuss the matter. Bushra Bibi categorically declined, saying that she had no involvement with such affairs and would not meet him,' Khan wrote on alleged that Munir's 'vindictive nature' led directly to his wife's who has been in Adiala Jail since mid-2023, said Bushra Bibi had been wrongfully jailed for 14 months and described the conditions of her detention as appalling.'It is General Asim Munir's vindictive nature that is behind Bushra Bibi's unjust 14-month incarceration and deplorable inhumane treatment in prison,' he added that she had been charged repeatedly without proof.'She was accused of aiding and abetting, an allegation for which no proof has ever been presented, and she is arrested in one false case after another. She is a private citizen, a homemaker with no political involvement.'Khan also said he had been denied contact with her for over four weeks, including a court-approved visit scheduled for June 1.'According to jail regulations, I was scheduled to meet her on June 1 but even that meeting was denied, in complete violation of court orders,' he did not stop with accusations against the army. Our people are being sentenced without evidence and without the right to a fair trial,' Khan called for a judicial commission to investigate the deaths of unarmed protesters during the May 9 and November 26 his post, Khan linked the current judiciary's performance with past controversial figures in Pakistan's legal history.'The judiciary in Pakistan has never been more disgraceful than it is today. In the past, there was Justice Munir, whose unjust decisions earned him global notoriety. Today, Justice Qazi Faez Isa is following in the same footsteps,' he wrote.'The entire judicial system seems complicit, driven not by justice but by a desire to protect their own jobs and privileges.'The backdrop to Khan's remarks is a year-long crackdown on PTI. On May 9, 2023, protests erupted following Khan's arrest. Demonstrators damaged military installations and government property. Authorities responded with mass arrests and week, a Pakistani court sentenced 11 PTI supporters—including a sitting lawmaker—for their involvement in the Islamabad protests. They were charged with inciting violence and post, which coincides with growing international attention on Pakistan's human rights record, is the latest in a series of public appeals as he continues to face multiple legal battles. Despite his incarceration, Khan maintains that the charges are politically motivated.(With inputs from PTI)

"Rahul Gandhi's efforts brought caste census to forefront": MP Congress Chief Jitu Patwari
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], June 4 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari on Tuesday praised the enthusiastic reception given to Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi during his visit to Bhopal, describing him as the 'hero of the caste census.' He credited Gandhi's persistent efforts to bring the issue to the forefront and influenced the Centre to consider the demand for a caste-based census. 'The way the citizens of Madhya Pradesh welcomed the hero of the caste census on the streets of Bhopal was unprecedented. Also, the way Congress workers welcomed Rahul Gandhi here was very touching. I am proud of my leader who proved the saying true, 'the world bows down -- what it needs is someone who can make it bow',' Patwari told ANI. When asked about the ongoing 'Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan' and whether it could help the Congress return to power in the state, Patwari expressed strong confidence. 'We are political workers and have a political party. It is the responsibility of every political party to serve the public after getting in power. 500 per cent sure we will be in power and serve the public as well,' he added. As part of the Congress' organisational strengthening efforts, Rahul Gandhi visited the state capital on Tuesday to lead various meetings and programs under the 'Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan' (Organisation Rejuvenation Campaign). After the meeting, senior Congress leader Kamal Nath stated, 'There was enthusiasm among all the Congress workers -- this is proof that the Congress is strong and all theses (workers) believe in Rahul Gandhi. He explained all the details about how the party will be rejuvenated and AICC appointed observers will engage with everyone to ensure that the right District Congress Committees are formed.' Congress MLA Jaivardhan Singh, son of senior leader Digvijaya Singh, described the campaign as a mission to build grassroots leadership across the state. 'The message is very clear, 'Sangathan Srijan' is a mission through which observers have been appointed from AICC and their sole responsibility will be to visit districts and bring in new people, especially from major towns. The focus is on preparing strong leaders -- horses for the long race -- and making them active through this mission,' Singh told ANI. He further thanked Rahul Gandhi for investing time in Madhya Pradesh Congress and expressed confidence that the initiative would significantly strengthen the party in the state. Additionally, Congress leader Sajjan Singh Verma added that Rahul Gandhi's Bhopal visit was entirely focused on internal party matters and leadership renewal. 'Rahul Gandhi's visit to Bhopal today was entirely focused on party affairs and party rejuvenation. His speech made it clear that from now on, District Presidents will not be appointed based on recommendations. Instead, strong and capable individuals will be elected -- those who will have the authority to distribute tickets for the councillor, Assembly, and Lok Sabha elections. Such will be the power of the new District Presidents,' Verma said. (ANI)
