Betting apps target eyeballs via surrogate ads in TNPL
CHENNAI: While the Tamil Nadu Online Gaming Authority (TNOGA) is cracking down on online betting platforms, several betting apps from foreign countries are acting as the main sponsors for multiple teams in the ongoing Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) through surrogate advertising, with minor tweaks to the names of their apps.
The betting apps which are sponsoring teams include dafabet, 1xBet, MELBET, Cricadda, Pin-up Cricket, JSK1, etc. In a bid to circumvent regulations, these apps are being promoted through surrogate advertising.
For instance, 1xBet is advertised as 1xBat, dafabet as dafanews, MELBET as MELBAT, Cricadda as Cricadda news, JSK1 as JSK1 news, among others. The apps are mainly visible on the team jerseys while some are displayed on the ground. TNPL is an eight-team franchise-based cricket contest organised by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association.

However, on Saturday, they bounced back to winning ways, beating the Panthers by nine wickets. Set a target of 151, the Dragons chased it down within 12.3 overs with captain Ashwin scoring a 29-ball 49 in a 124-run opening stand. Fellow opener Shivam Singh was the star in the chase with his unbeaten 86 off 41, laced with eight maximums and six boundaries. He was named the Player of the Match for his performance. Dindigul Dragons will play their next match against the Chepauk Super Gillies on Monday, June 16.

Dindigul Dragons skipper Ravichandran Ashwin was left seething after seeing his team miss three run-out chances on the same ball against Siechem Madurai Panthers in the 11th match of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) at Salem on Saturday, June 14. It happened on the second-last ball of the first innings. Ganeshan Periyaswamy bowled a wide yorker to Gurjapneet Singh, who reached out to slice it to covers. Ashwin gathered and threw it at the non-striker's end but missed, and the bowler hadn't come back in time to grab it either. This allowed the first bonus run.
