David Beckham's move to the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2007 helped put Major League Soccer on the map, but it was his family's actions away from the pitch that left the biggest impression on his team-mates
David Beckham's surprise move to Los Angeles Galaxy put Major League Soccer firmly in the limelight, but it was his family's off-pitch behaviour that left a lasting impression on those around them. The former England skipper sent shockwaves through the sporting world when he announced his departure from Real Madrid for the Galaxy in 2007.
Beckham paved the way for other high-profile stars like Thierry Henry, David Villa and Andrea Pirlo to wind down their careers in MLS. His England colleagues Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Wayne Rooney also had subsequent stints across the pond.

Success didn't come immediately for the Galaxy after Beckham's arrival, but the ex-Manchester United ace did end his five-and-a-half-year tenure with back-to-back MLS Cup victories. However, Carlos Pavon Jr, son of former Galaxy star Carlos Pavon, remembers Victoria Beckham's actions at a birthday party making a bigger impact on him and his family than her husband's on-field exploits.

Honduran striker Pavon was part of the Galaxy squad during Beckham's inaugural season. The forward only spent a year in LA, but his son has cherished memories of being around the Beckhams during his childhood, including one moment that has remained with him for nearly 18 years.
"It was the birthday of one of his sons. They had a party in a giant park and there were inflatable trampolines and the whole team was there, his whole family was there," Pavon Jr recounted on the La Pelota Al DIEZ podcast. "I was playing with his son on the inflatable trampoline and we were jumping, and then out of nowhere, I notice the kid's mum comes in, David's wife, Victoria.
"She started jumping with us and I was like, 'I can't believe I'm doing this with Victoria Beckham,' so I think that was the funniest thing. Everybody saw when she came in and started jumping with us, so when I came out, I think they all saw my surprised face, like, 'Wow, that just happened.' It was really funny."
His father's career took him to La Liga and Serie A before joining forces with Beckham at LA Galaxy. The elder Pavon also represented Honduras in the 2010 World Cup and played in Mexico and Colombia, but for his son, the LA experience was like living in a movie.
"It was incredible. I was 12 years old, so I was a bit between my childhood and my adolescence, but I remember very well and it was so different," Pavon Jr said. "I really felt that, I felt that it had nothing to do with Italy, with Mexico, with Honduras.

"There I felt like we were literally in Hollywood, the people we interacted with, the cars, the food, the house, everything was like another level, from the moment we arrived to the moment we left and well, the presence of David Beckham also had a big influence on that.
"I followed him, I played FIFA with him and all that, so seeing him in person and interacting with him and his family was almost like a dream, like it wasn't real."

Beckham's legacy continues to shape MLS. As part of his Galaxy deal, he was given the chance to buy an MLS expansion team, which eventually became Inter Miami.
The club made its MLS debut in 2020, but has reached new heights since acquiring Lionel Messi in 2023. In less than two years, the World Cup-winning captain has helped Miami win the 2023 Leagues Cup before guiding the team to the Supporters' Shield last season.
Messi has scored 44 goals in 55 games and raised the club's profile in the transfer market. The Argentine has been reunited with fellow Barcelona icons Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Luis Suarez at Chase Stadium, and is also being coached by their ex-team-mate Javier Mascherano.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy won the MLS Cup last year but are currently at the bottom of the Western Conference. Their current most high-profile player is Borussia Dortmund legend Marco Reus.

Cruz Beckham post heartbreaking family snap after brother Brooklyn tells them he ‘wants no contact'

CRUZ Beckham has shared a throwback family snap amid the ongoing family feud between the Beckhams. The youngest son of David and Victoria appeared to be looking back at happier times in the family as he shared an old snap of the three brothers with their mum after she had just given birth to daughter, Harper Seven. 5 5 The snap, believed to be taken in 2011, showed the three boys beaming down the lens of the camera as they snuggled up to their mum. Victoria tenderly held her daughter in the heartwarming picture. Cruz's decision to upload the image is very telling amid ongoing tension in the family after Brooklyn decided he no longer wanted contact with his famous family. Cruz did not add any captions nor did he tag his family members in the snap. Earlier today, it was revealed that Brooklyn is refusing to reply to messages amid the bitter feud, according to reports. The sourced said: "Brooklyn told his family he wants no contact and he's not responding to those that try to connect.' However, a source close to Brooklyn denied this and said, "this seems to be another deliberate attempt to misrepresent the truth, and it only serves to distract from this honor being bestowed on Brooklyn's father." The Sun has contacted representatives for Brooklyn and the Beckhams for comment. England legend David will be knighted as part of King Charles ' birthday honours. Peltz-Beckham's respond to reports of family feud It's a title he has coveted for some time and it means Victoria will be come Lady Beckham. David was first put forward for a knighthood in 2011 after helping to secure the London 2012 Olympics. But he was blocked from getting the title by the Honours Committee after becoming caught up in a tax avoidance scheme, along with many other stars. His finances were cleared by the taxman at least four years ago - paving the way for him to finally get the coveted honour. Just weeks ago we revealed how David and Victoria feel there might be no way to reconcile with their eldest child. Brooklyn, who was a no-show at David's star-studded 50th birthday celebrations last month, shared a video of himself and Nicola riding on his motorbike and wrote: 'My whole world. I will love you forever. I always choose you baby.' Those close to the Beckhams said the message seemed 'very pointed'. A source added: 'It shows how much this situation with his family has escalated. 5 "It's very sad for everyone involved, especially David and Victoria who love him very much. This isn't the Brooklyn his family knows and loves. 'This post was like a dagger to their hearts but they will always be there for Brooklyn.' Tensions became public when Brooklyn did not publicly acknowledge fashion designer Victoria, 51, on Mother's Day. He then failed to show at any of David's 50th birthday parties. His mum and dad have continued to acknowledge him on social media, but pals of Brooklyn and Nicola suggested that was for show. The Sun revealed that the couple recently had dinner in California with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who were 'very empathetic'. 5

And SunSport understands Aston Villa, Tottenham and Newcastle are all monitoring developments. Villa are thought to be keen on a loan deal for the player, but United would prefer cash to free up funds for a rebuild. Newcastle and Tottenham both see Sancho as a strong option as they look to build squads that can compete in the League and the Champions League. Despite netting in the 4-1 Europa Conference League final win over Real Betis, Sancho couldn't seal a £25million switch to Chelsea. Jadon Sancho shares his Chelsea highlights reel as he says goodbye to fans ahead of Man Utd return 4 They are still linked with Sancho's team-mate Alejandro Garnacho, who looks to have been banished to the wilderness by Ruben Amorim in a similar fallout to the one Sancho had with Erik ten Hag. United have set a staggering £70m asking price on the Argentine winger. Garnacho is viewed as one of United's sellable assets this summer as he is considered homegrown, although he does have three years remaining on his contract. Chelsea today confirmed Sancho's return to Man Utd in a 92-word statement on the club website. It said: "Sancho, 25, joined on a season-long loan on August 31 2024 and went on to make a total of 41 appearances for the club. "The winger registered five goals during his time at Stamford Bridge, with his final strike coming in the Blues' UEFA Conference League Final victory against Real Betis on May 28. "Everyone at Chelsea would like to thank Jadon for his efforts and we wish him every success for the future."
