The Mercer County Home Show, sponsored by the Mercer County Builders Association, is on Saturday, March 22 in Hermitage.
The show is for homeowners, renters and just about anyone interested in home improvement. There will be more than 40 exhibitors ranging from plumbers and electricians to builders, landscapers and home renovation experts. There will even be real estate professionals and a financial advisor.
Jim McLusky is the board director of the Mercer County Builders Association and also owns McLusky's Showcase Kitchens and Baths in New Wilmington. He says the show is a little on the smaller scale so people will have more time to really talk with vendors and not feel rushed.
'You are going to see everything from the home builders to similar companies like us. And the majority of vendors you will see are members of the Mercer County Builder's Association so they are a trusted organization,' McLusky said. 'So you will be able to kick the tires, talk to the businesses. You'll be able to set up appointments if you like.'
Even though the show is in Hermitage, everyone from anywhere is invited to stop out.
'We wanted to reach out further into other areas,' McLusky said. 'Not just Mercer County, but into the Ohio area, Lawrence County.'
There will also be several prizes given away every hour during the show as attendees will have a chance to win a $100 restaurant gift card. Mercer County Food Bank will have donation bins set up for non-perishable items and the Girl Scouts will be there selling cookies.
The Mercer County Home Show is happening on Saturday at the Hickory VFW Normandy Banquet Center located at 5550 State Street in Hermitage. The show runs from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., and admission is free.

Warren officials considering forming Joint Economic District with nearby township
WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) — The City of Warren is exploring a new way to boost economic development by partnering with a nearby township to create a Joint Economic District. The move could pave the way for major improvements in the area, all with an eye toward a major player — Kimberly-Clark, which announced it will build a manufacturing plant in Warren last month. Ohio Laws allow municipalities and townships to join forces and identify prime property for development and even tax themselves to fund improvements. In Warren's case, the city would serve as the municipal partner, supplying water and sewer services, while the district itself would do things like road work, powerline relocations and building new access roads for truck traffic. 'The JED is obviously a creature of statute, and it allows for municipalities and neighboring townships or township to work together where one has something and the other lacks it, and you kind of come together for this purpose,' said Warren Law Director Enzo Cantalamessa. City officials say Kimberly-Clark expects the project to take two to two-and-a-half years to complete, making the partnership a key step in delivering the infrastructure and services necessary for the company's expansion. DOD allocates $25M for new fire station at YARS
VIENNA, Ohio (WKBN) – A Department of Defense funding plan shows that $25 million is being set aside for a new fire station at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station in Vienna Township. The plan shows that money is being appropriated for FY 2025. It's part of the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act 2025, which was signed by President Donald Trump on March 15. Congressman Dave Joyce, 14th District, who is also a member of the House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee, joined other Valley lawmakers in a letter to Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth reiterating the importance of the funding for the fire station, specifically stating its importance as the facility transitions to the new C-130J. Congressman Michael Rulli, 6th District, said that the investment is significant and shows the importance of the air station. 'It ensures that Northeast Ohio remains not just relevant, but indispensable to our national security,' Rulli said. Last year, an $11 million project got started for a new front gate and visitor center at the air station. That project is being overseen by the Army Corps of Engineers. The air station began receiving the new C-130J in July 2024, with all aircraft to be delivered by the end of 2025. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
