The Buffalo Bills are entering the 2025 NFL season as one of the top Super Bowl contenders in the league. After making a run to the AFC Championship Game last year, Josh Allen and company will look to take the next step into the big game.
Looking at the roster, the talent is there for the Bills to win a championship. However, there are some major questions that need to be answered about the future.
One of those questions has to do with the future of standout running back James Cook.

Cook and the team are heading into the final year of their contract together. While the two sides have discussed a possible extension, they haven't been close.

That has led to a realization that the 2025 season might be Cook's last year in Buffalo.
Sports Illustrated NFL insider Albert Breer has revealed a bad update for the Bills regarding Cook.
"That's why the Bills already tried to get him signed," Breer wrote. "They had talks earlier in the offseason and my sense is that the two sides were never very close to finding real common ground. Which explains how quiet it's been on the Cook front since that flurry of Buffalo extensions."
During the 2024 NFL season, Cook put together a big-time year for Buffalo. His presence on the ground helped take a lot of pressure off of Allen and the passing game.
In the 16 games he played, Cook carried the football 207 times for 1,009 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also caught 32 passes for 258 yards and two more scores.

At just 25 years old, Cook still has a lot of good football left in him. The Bills will likely make another attempt to work out a deal with him at some point, but the two sides may be too far away to come to a compromise.
Should Cook hit the open market, there are a lot of teams that would have interest in him. For now, all Buffalo can do is try to get something done and work towards winning a championship with him on the roster in 2025.
This will be a situation worth monitoring in the coming weeks and months. Cook's future is still very much up in the air with the Bills at this point.

Key dates on the NFL's 2025-2026 league calendar that will impact the Eagles
Key dates on the NFL's 2025-2026 league calendar that will impact the Eagles The NFL's official calendar for the next year has been released, and the league unveiled about two dozen key dates starting in July and extending until next summer. The NFL's official calendar for the next year has been released, and the league unveiled about two dozen key dates starting in July and extending until next summer. Philadelphia now knows when they'll need to trim the roster down to 53 players, and a hint at the looming trade deadline. With the next year's schedule now completed, here are the key dates to watch. July 15 -- Franchise tag The Eagles don't have any players on the tag. Still, for players like Chiefs offensive lineman Trey Smith, July 15 is the deadline for any club that designated a Franchise Player to sign such a player to a multiyear contract or extension. The Chiefs placed their non-exclusive franchise tag on Smith on Feb. 28. The Pro Bowl offensive lineman will earn $23.4 million on the tag unless a new deal is agreed to before the July 15 deadline. Smith, 26, has started 77 games, including postseason, since being selected in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. After this date, the player may sign only a one-year contract with his prior club for the 2025 season, and no long-term extension can happen until after the final regular season game. Mid July The Eagles' rookies and select veterans will report to the NovaCare Complex for training camp. July 31 -Hall of Fame Game, Los Angeles Chargers vs. Detroit Lions, Canton, Ohio. Jim Harbaugh's revamped Chargers will face Dan Campbell's new-look Detroit Lions in Canton, Ohio. Aug 26: Rosters must be cut down to 53 players After several seasons with multiple cutdown days, the NFL returned to one deadline for teams to trim their rosters. The deadline was adjusted before the 2020 COVID-19-impacted seasons: Roster reduction from 90 to 85 Roster reduction from 85 to 80 Final roster reduction from 80 to 53 Teams can release players at their discretion, but not having three different cutdown dates no longer puts pressure on them during the summer. Aug 31- Final day of preseason training camp for all clubs For the Eagles and every other NFL team, September 1 is a holiday, and the official start of the 2025 regular season. September 1-6 -- Injury reports The first week of September means teams around the league will start officially releasing injury reports. November 4- NFL Trade Deadline The week after Halloween will be exciting this year as teams anticipate an early trade deadline. January 5 - Fifth-year options for players selected in Round 1 of the 2023 NFL Draft This is the first day that Howie Roseman can offer Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith long-term extensions. The expectation is that Carter will reset the market and could become the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. Jan 10-12 Wild Card Weekend powered by Verizon Jan 17-18 Divisional Playoffs presented by Intuit TurboTax Jan 25, AFC and NFC Championship Games presented by Intuit TurboTax. February 8 Super Bowl LX at Levi's Stadium (Santa Clara, California) February 17 Franchise tag Depending on the season, they have Dallas Goedert, Jordan Davis, or Kenyon Green, who could be a candidate for the franchise tag. March 9-11 Free Agency "legal tampering" opens Philadelphia will have over 30 players set to hit the open market. April 23-25 NFL Draft (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) Philadelphia currently has 13 picks and could acquire more.

NFL analyst suggests Cowboys trade for 2x-Pro Bowl RB James Cook
NFL analyst suggests Cowboys trade for 2x-Pro Bowl RB James Cook As the Cowboys front office loves to remind the team's fans (and as Pittsburgh and Aaron Rodgers showed this week), player acquisition is a year-round endeavor in the NFL. And just because the main waves of free agency and the draft are firmly in the rearview, it doesn't mean the roster churn is necessarily over, even as minicamps get rolling. The phones are always open, and teams are always willing to at least entertain conversations about swapping established talents, especially if there's a chance of improving a thin spot on the existing roster or stockpiling capital for the future. Pro Football & Sports Network's Brandon Austin recently took a long look at each team's personnel to identify one trade target that might make a major difference in 2025. In Dallas, the most obvious area of need in June remains the same as it was back in February. Despite a near-total overhaul of the RB room in the offseason, the position seems far from locked up for the Cowboys. Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders bring the experience, and fifth-round draft selection Jaydon Blue likely has the most upside, but "if the Cowboys get the opportunity to upgrade," Austin writes, "they should strongly consider it." That's the reasoning behind his suggestion for the Cowboys to go after Buffalo running back James Cook. Cook, the younger brother of veteran Dalvin Cook, has blossomed into one of the NFL's better young running backs. The former Florida State standout eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark in each of the past two seasons with the Bills, and he led the NFL with 16 touchdowns last season. He ranked third among RBs in EPA per play for the whole season at 0.27. Dalvin joined the Cowboys last season after a prolonged courtship. But the experiment fizzled fast: he saw the field in just two games, getting just eight carries and amassing 20 yards total. He clearly was not the same back who had compiled four consecutive 1,000-yard campaigns with Minnesota from 2019 to 2022. James, however, is four years younger and has averaged 4.7 yards per carry or more in each of his three pro seasons. That's significantly better than any season Williams has ever turned in, and it matches what Sanders has done over a six-year career. Sanders has almost twice as many rushing attempts, though, meaning he's taken twice as many hits. The Bills used a committee approach out of the backfield last season, but Ray Davis and Ty Johnson saw far fewer carries than Cook. The reality is, it's difficult to imagine Buffalo weakening their RB corps so dramatically, even if Dallas - or any other team- were to make even a hefty trade offer for Cook. But it is speculation season; the same article has the Falcons looking to trade for Cowboys cornerback DaRon Bland. And Dallas giving up their only proven and healthy CB seems just as improbable as the Bills suddenly sending Cook packing. Major Aaron Rodgers News Sets Up Packers For Historic 2025 Matchup
Major Aaron Rodgers News Sets Up Packers For Historic 2025 Matchup originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Green Bay Packers' 2025 schedule features a series of eye-opening games and scenarios, including Matt LaFleur's first-ever Week 1 game at Lambeau Field, a second-half NFC North gauntlet, a Monday night showdown against the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, and Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow making their first career starts at Lambeau Field. Advertisement Green Bay faces the fifth roughest strength of schedule in 2025, making the road back to the Super Bowl more challenging than in previous years. Still, it is a path that opens a window for special moments between players and fans throughout the season. Still, for many Packers fans, the most memorable moment will come in Week 8. Former Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (12) scrambles for a touchdown in the second quarter against Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt (90)© William Glasheen / USA TODAY NETWORK On Thursday afternoon, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Aaron Rodgers intended to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Later that day, Pittsburgh confirmed they had reached a one-year agreement with the future first-ballot Hall of Famer. Rumors swirled all offseason about mutual interest between Rodgers and the Steelers. Now that a deal is done, the Packers will head to Pittsburgh for a Week 8 Sunday Night Football showdown against their former quarterback. Advertisement Rodgers has beaten 31 of the 32 NFL teams — Green Bay being the only one he hasn't defeated. For many members of the Packers organization, and Rodgers himself, it should be a truly special night. 'I thought it was a great partnership,' LaFleur said about Rodgers during an appearance on the Chris Simms Unbuttoned podcast. 'Certainly, there were some moments of struggle, but when you have people who are passionate, convicted about what they're doing, and care deeply, it usually benefits the team. We kind of helped each other in that regard.' Rodgers himself had some positive remarks about the Packers during a recent appearance on the YNK podcast. Advertisement "There's a lot of love for me and how I feel about the team," Rodgers said. 'If I do or don't retire as a Packer, I don't think it should make a difference. I'm not sure yet. If they approached me about it, I probably would,' Rodgers said about signing a one-day contract to symbolically retire as a Packer. During his 15 years as the Packers' starting quarterback, Rodgers won four regular season MVPs, a Super Bowl MVP, earned four First-Team All-Pro honors, and was selected to ten Pro Bowls. He is the most talented thrower of football in NFL history and holds a special place in the hearts of many Packers fans. There will be plenty of hugs and handshakes before and after the game — but in between, Rodgers will be the enemy. The Packers are in for a real test in Pittsburgh. Acrisure Stadium is always a tough place to play. Mike Tomlin is one of the best coaches in the league, and the Steelers have a strong defense. There will be plenty of eyes on this matchup — and it has the potential to deliver in a big way, both in storylines and on the field.
