India's security forces on Wednesday launched search operations following the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, which killed at least 28 people and injured many others.Security has been beefed up since the attack, with visuals from the area showing the streets being deserted in the usually bustling tourist area. Many organisations have also called for a Jammu bandh following the attack, reported ANI.With the situation tense in the area, some tourists have decided to cut short their trips too.One of the tourists, Sameer Bhardwaj from Delhi, had plans to visit places in Pahalgam, but he said he will be returning to the National Capital now."We have been in Kashmir for the last three days. We had plans for Pahalgam, but since the situation is not good here, we are leaving for Delhi... What happened here is very wrong. Such a thing has happened in Pahalgam for the first time," ANI quoted the tourist as saying.National Conference Leader Shekh Bashir Ahmad, while condemning the attack, also called it a conspiracy to disrupt the economy of Jammu and Kashmir. With the union territories dependent on the tourist season, he said that this terror attack is meant to stop the flow of tourists in the area."This is a conspiracy against Jammu and Kashmir, to delay the economy of the region. There is no religion of people like this, no religion says to kill people...People had gone there for holidays, but innocent people were attacked. The people of Jammu and Kashmir (JK) should understand this conspiracy. There is a yatra which is supposed to happen, tourists are coming in, the economy of Jammu and Kashmir is from tourism," senior National Conference leader Shekh Bashir Ahmad told ANI.Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a briefing meeting with EAM Dr S. Jaishankar, NSA Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and other officials immediately after landing in Delhi from Saudi Arabia.The attack, which targeted tourists in the Pahalgam area of Anantnag district, took place earlier on Tuesday.Meanwhile, Security forces and police personnel rushed to the site immediately after the attack. NEW DELHI: The Israel-Iran conflict may not immediately disrupt global oil supplies , but the tensions could keep prices elevated, squeezing oil marketing companies' margins while having little impact on consumer prices, according to executives at Indian refining firms. An Israeli strike on Iranian nuclear and military facilities, followed by Iran's vow to retaliate, sent shockwaves through the oil market on Friday, pushing benchmark Brent crude up 8% to $75 a barrel. "It is in the interest of the US, Iran, and other West Asian producers to keep oil flowing without disruption," said a refinery executive, speaking on the condition of anonymity. "Producers in the region will not want their trade disrupted, and Trump will be wary of global supply shocks that could push up US pump prices." "India's crude supply basket is currently well-diversified and West Asia has a comparatively smaller footprint than it was a decade ago," said M K Surana, the CEO of Ratnagiri Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd and former chief of HPCL . Russia currently supplies about 40% of India's crude imports. "More than supply, it's the price risk that's more relevant to India. This can weigh on oil marketing companies' margins." "Structurally, the global oil market supports lower crude oil prices with increased OPEC+ supplies and weak demand growth. But escalating geopolitical tensions brings in risk premium in oil prices, higher freight and insurance costs," Surana said. "Speculation creates upward momentum in prices." Contribute now New Delhi: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu phoned Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday (June 13) and briefed him about the situation developing in the Middle East, while Modi endorsed an early return of peace, the latter said as the region undergoes turmoil amid Israel's targeted military operation against Iran. Modi said that Netanyahu 'briefed me on the evolving situation' and that in turn he 'shared India's concerns and emphasised the need for early restoration of peace and stability in the region'. Netanyahu's office said the Israeli PM had been speaking to world leaders starting the previous night and specifically mentioned three people he had phoned, with Modi being one of them. 'The leaders,' it went on, 'showed understanding for Israel's defence needs in the face of the Iranian threat of annihilation'. Netanyahu would continue to remain in touch with them, his office added. Meanwhile, Indian external affairs minister S. Jaishankar reported receiving a phone call from his Israeli opposite number Gideon Saar and that he had also spoken with Iranian foreign minister Seyed Abbas Aragchi. Early on Friday, Israel began a military operation against arch-enemy Iran, claiming that Tehran was 'closer than ever' to obtaining a nuclear weapon and that given its opposition to Israel's existence, the latter was compelled to launch a 'preemptive' attack. Iran, which denies pursuing nuclear weapons, has confirmed losing top military commanders in the operation, including the chief of staff of its armed forces, as well as senior scientists. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei said as per the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency that 'the Zionist regime [has] sealed for itself a bitter and painful destiny'. 'The type of radioactive contamination present inside the facility, mainly alpha particles, can be managed with appropriate protective measures,' it added. A day prior, the IAEA had reprimanded Iran for not adhering to its non-proliferation obligations, accusing Tehran of failing to provide credible explanations for the presence of uranium traces at undeclared sites in the country. Iran bristled at the statement, vowing to open a new enrichment site and upgrade centrifuges at its Fordow nuclear facility. Tel Aviv's military operation also occurs amid talks between Iran and the US regarding the former's nuclear program. The two sides were scheduled to meet in Oman for a sixth round of talks on Sunday but it is unclear whether the program is still on. US President Donald Trump meanwhile has urged Iran to strike a deal with Washington. 'Iran must make a deal, before there is nothing left, and save what was once known as the Iranian Empire. India, France agree to intensify defence, space and civilian nuclear cooperation
