Karisma's Father Randhir Kapoor Never Wanted Her To Marry Sunjay Kapur: 'He's A Third-Class Man'
Last Updated:
In 2003, Karisma tied the knot with Delhi-based industrialist Sunjay Kapur. The marriage, however, did not stand the test of time and ended in a bitter and prolonged legal battle.
Karisma Kapoor, once engaged to Abhishek Bachchan in 2002, was poised to become the Bachchan family's bahu. But their highly publicised engagement ended just months later. In 2003, Karisma tied the knot with Delhi-based industrialist Sunjay Kapur. The marriage, however, did not stand the test of time and ended in a bitter and prolonged legal battle.
While the couple was parents to two children, their divorce, finalised in 2016, became a talking point in the media due to the serious allegations involved. Karisma accused Sunjay of domestic abuse, while Sunjay alleged that she had married him only for money.
Veteran actor Randhir Kapoor, Karisma's father, had always been vocal about his disapproval of the marriage. In a 2016 interview with Hindustan Times, Randhir lashed out at Sunjay and said, 'Sunjay is a third-class man… Everyone knows our credentials. We are Kapoors. We don't need to run after anyone's money. We have been blessed with not only money, but our talent can support us for the rest of our lives."
Randhir further added that he had opposed the match from the beginning, stating, 'I never wanted Karisma marrying him. He never cared for his wife. He has been giving bull**** to her and living with another woman. The entire Delhi knows how he is. I would not like to say anything more than this."
At the time of his death on June 12, 2025, Sunjay Kapur's estimated net worth stood at $1.2 billion (approximately Rs 10,300 crore), according to Forbes. He became one of the World's Billionaires in 2022. His company, Sona Comstar, headquartered in Gurugram, has 12 manufacturing units and employs over 5,000 people across India, China, Mexico, Serbia, and the US. The company saw significant growth driven by the global electric vehicle (EV) boom.
Sunjay assumed control of the company after the death of his father, Dr Surinder Kapur, in 2015. Following years of turmoil, Karisma and Sunjay eventually reached a divorce settlement in 2016. As per DNA, Sunjay paid Karisma Rs 70 crore in alimony. A report by ANI stated that he also invested Rs 14 crore in bonds for their two children, which yield Rs 10 lakh annually in interest. Additionally, he transferred ownership of a house previously owned by his father to Karisma.

PM Modi to flag off first locomotive for export from Bihar factory to Guinea
IN A significant step towards enhancing its revenues, Indian Railways is set to start exporting locomotives to Guinea, a coastal country in West Africa. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the first locomotive for export, manufactured in the Diesel Locomotive Factory at Marhowrah in Bihar's Saran district on June 20. PM Modi will also flag off a Vande Bharat train between Patliputra (Bihar) and Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh). This is the first time Indian Railways will be exporting the locomotive, which will add to its revenues. A senior official of the Ministry of Railways said the earlier exports were made in the form of line of credit, which were a kind of aid for development projects in different countries. These locomotives were sent to countries like Bangladesh, Mozambique, among others. The official said a total of 150 locomotives will be supplied to Guinea in three years. The Marhowrah factory is built on a public-private-partnership (PPP) model and is run by the joint venture of GE Transportation, part of American company Wabtec, and Indian Railways. 'The factory won the bid in a global tender issued by Guinea. These locomotives will be used for freight transportation from iron ore mines of the country. These are 4,500 horsepower (HP) locomotives. It will feature many facilities such as windshield heating for defogging, insulated roof, toilet, air conditioning etc. The rake will be attached with the two locomotives on both sides. So it will also have a Distributed Power Wireless Control System (DPWCS), which will allow the wireless control of multiple locomotives in a train. These locos will carry freight of 8,000 tonnes. Two locomotives together will carry the load of 100 wagons with maximum permissible speed. It is expected to cover 1,200 kilometers in 24 hours,' said the official. According to the contract, the railways will supply a total of 37 locomotives in the financial year 2025-26 (FY26), 82 locomotives in FY27 and 31 in FY28. 'The total contract value is 411 million dollars (Rs 3,533 crore). That means, the cost of one locomotive will be 2.74 million dollar or Rs 23.55 crore. Since the production of railway locomotives in India has increased to 1,681, surpassing the total locomotive production of countries such as the United States, Europe, South America, Africa and Australia, the export will give a major boost to the overall revenue of the railways. For manufacturing of these locomotives, three types of tracks — broad gauge, standard gauge and Cape gauge — have been laid at the Marhowrah locomotive premises,' said the official. The locomotives are equipped with AC propulsion, regenerative braking, microprocessor-based controls and modular architecture. Along with this, it is built with emission standards, fire detection systems and ergonomic crew cabins with modern amenities like refrigerator, microwave and waterless toilet system. 'This export positions Marhowrah factory as a global hub for locomotive exports, strengthening local employment and technological capability. It will contribute to building infrastructure for Guinea's largest iron ore project, deepening India-Africa economic cooperation. In Marhowrah factory of Bihar, 285 people are directly employed and 1,215 people are getting indirect employment,' said the official. Indian Railways has a total of four loco production units — Diesel Locomotive Works at Varanasi, Chittaranjan Locomotive Works at Chittaranjan, Diesel Modernisation Works at Patiala and Electric Loco Assembly and Ancillary Unit at Dankuni. DLW and DMW were diesel loco production units. However, they started manufacturing electric locos from 2016-17 and 2018-19 onwards, respectively. Other two production units, CLW and ELAAU are manufacturing only electric locos. Two more PUs — Marhowra factory and another Greenfield Electric Loco Factory at Madhepura, Bihar — have been built on PPP mode, supplying diesel and electric locos. CM Rangasamy seeks VP's intervention to grant statehood to Puducherry
Rangasamy stated that successive elected governments, irrespective of their political parties, have time and again impressed upon the Centre for the need for statehood. Rangasamy presented a memorandum to the vice president on Monday during a meeting. Dhankar is currently on an official three-day visit to Puducherry to participate in functions at JIPMER and Pondicherry Central University. Puducherry June 16 (PTI) Chief Minister of Puducherry N Rangasamy has sought the intervention of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar to grant statehood to Puducherry, which is currently a Union Territory. The territorial Assembly had also adopted resolutions with the unanimous support of all political parties and more importantly the people of Puducherry for statehood, he pointed out in the memorandum. The chief minister emphasised that the elected government of the Union Territory of Puducherry is a limited government, not by the Constitution but by the decades-old law of the Parliament, through the Government of Union Territories Act of 1963 which is still in force. He stated in the memorandum that even though the government is elected democratically with a Council of Ministers and an assembly, it is unable to function and execute various developmental activities quickly because of a lack of powers at the level of the Council of Ministers. He also brought to the notice of the vice president that Puducherry is currently not included in the Finance Commission on the ground, resulting in improper devolution of funds for development. He also pointed out that if statehood is granted to the Union territory about Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000 crores under additional devolution of funds as per the existing formula can be expected which will be helpful to take up various infrastructural activities to improve Puducherry as a fast-growing place as a tourism destination. 'With limited powers now we are unable to attract investors for industrial development to generate employment opportunities,' Rangasamy said. He requested the vice president to discuss the granting of statehood whenever possible at higher levels for enhanced tourism and for industrial development. South Delhi India's capital for FMCG consumption
Representative image (Photo: ANI) NEW DELHI: When it comes to quantity (volume), South Delhi, associated with affluence, is India's unrivalled consumption capital for fast-moving consumer goods. But West Delhi is the top spender on these goods, not only in the capital, but also in the country. What's common: both prefer good old home-cooked meals, and bottled cold drinks. A household in the West Delhi cluster - Tilak Nagar, Janakpuri, Sagarpur, and Vikaspuri - spends Rs 39,325 a year on average, which is more than twice the national average, show figures compiled by data and consulting firm Kantar's FMCG Pulse. On the other hand, a household in South Delhi - Okhla, Kalkaji, Lajpat Nagar, and Bhogal - consumes 240kg of FMCG annually, again, two times the average national consumption. Bengaluru tops in premium products When it comes to premium products, it is Bengaluru which comes out on top with an average city-level spend of Rs 211 for every kilo of FMCG, surpassing all other cities, none of which exceed Rs 195 per kg. The report also said that Mumbai's Greater Dharavi Santacruz Cluster (GDSC) cluster - comprising Dharavi, Bandra East, Khar East, Santacruz East, Dawri Nagar, and Prabhat Colony - is home to the hyper-frequent shopper with each household making 233 visits to shop for FMCG products, which means once every 37 hours. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo In contrast, an average urban household in the country makes 128 visits a year to buy items other than atta. An average Mumbai household makes 135 visits. Each visit in the GDSC corridor involves a spend of only Rs 93 and a purchase of just 541g, the lowest among metro clusters. Only two other metro clusters, Surat and Kolkata, average less than Rs 100 per visit. The lower average spend may be linked to the small size of dwelling units. The insights, which study the consumption pattern of metros, breaking them down into 157 micro-clusters, have excluded a regionally skewed category of atta. Among Delhi clusters, the South Delhi cluster purchases the least quantity of snacking products, but consumes 45 litres of edible oil annually, slightly above the city average, and 17kg of salt per annum, approximately 1.4x the city-level average. Additionally, this cluster is a heavy consumer of basmati rice, twice the city-level average. Its low interest in snacking, paired with high consumption of staples, suggests a preference for home-cooked meals. However, its consumption of 20 litres of bottled soft drinks annually, 1.3 times the city average, suggests that it may be driven more by taste than health concerns, according to Kantar. In contrast, the West Delhi cluster is a major market for salty snacks, with households spending approximately Rs 1,700 annually on these products, 1.3 times the city average. Further, significant spending on spices and basmati rice suggests that, like the South Delhi cluster, West Delhi households prefer home-cooked meals. Additionally, a two-fold expenditure on sauces and ketchups, and a 1.9-times spend compared to the city average on bottled soft drinks, highlight the cluster's focus on flavoured and food-centric lifestyles. "Delhi has always stood out for its preference for larger pack sizes across FMCG categories, a clear reflection of the city's higher consumer affluence and evolved buying behaviour," said Dabur India's head of sales, Rehan Hasan.
