MP explains the features and functioning of parliamentary democracy
Over 300 students from across the region participated in the inaugural session of 'Young Indians Parliament 2.0', a civic awareness programme organised by the Tiruchi chapter of Young Indians (Yi) under the auspices of the Confederation of Indian Industry, on Friday.
The two-day programme, held under Yi's 'Thalir' initiative, was inaugurated at Shrimati Indira Gandhi College on Friday by DMK Rajya Sabha Member Tiruchi N. Siva. Pradeep Chenthilkumar, Yi Entrepreneurship joint national chair, and Praveen Krishnakumar, Yi Tiruchi chapter chair, were present.
Mr. Siva explained the history of Indian Parliament, structure and types of parliamentary proceedings, and key differences between the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. He elaborated on how bills are introduced and passed, the functioning of Zero Hour, and the distinction between policies and laws. Students were captivated by his insights and experiences from within parliament, especially his involvement in key bills and debates over his tenure.
In an interactive session, the MP responded to a variety of career-oriented, leadership-focused, and policy-related queries posed by students.
The valedictory session on Saturday will be addressed by Tiruchi MP Durai Vaiko.
The Yi Young Indians Parliament is a flagship platform for experiential learning, enabling students to actively engage with themes such as governance, sustainability, entrepreneurship, and citizen leadership.
Yi Thalir co-chairs Deepiha Lakshminarayanan and Lavanya Naveen, and Sashank Mothi - Yi Trichy Chapter co-chair, spoke.

140 students take part in Young Indians Parliament in Kochi
Kochi: Two-day Young Indians Parliament (YIP), which brought together over 140 students from 15 schools, concluded in the city on Sunday. The event, jointly organized by Charter School and Cochin International School, gave students a platform to learn about democratic processes through mock parliamentary sessions and debates. YIP is a flagship national initiative by Young Indians (Yi), a movement for Indian youth, designed to educate and empower students from grades IX to XII through experiential learning of India's democratic processes. VIT organises debating skills programme for school students in Vellore
The Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) organised a two-day programme to develop debating skills among school students at its campus in Vellore on Saturday. According to a press release, the programme was titled as Young Indians Parliament 2.0 (YIP 2.0). It was aimed to inculcate debating culture among school students. Speaking at the event, Kadhambari S. Viswanathan, assistant vice-president, VIT, highlighted digital technologies and its impact on youth. She urged the students to minimize the usage of social media and use it prudently. She also touched upon how the prevailing gig economy has both advantages and disadvantages. More than 120 students in Vellore are participating in the city-level round. The winners will go through to the State level round and then to the nationals. On the occasion, Prashanth, Chapter Chair, Young Indians (Vellore), Althaf Hussain, Chapter Co-Chair, Young Indians (Vellore), were present, the release said.

Two-day Young Indians Parliament held in Coimbatore
A two-day Young Indians Parliament 2.0, the flagship model parliament initiative by Young Indians (Yi), was held at SSVM School of Excellence in Coimbatore. Organised by the Yi Coimbatore Chapter under its Thalir vertical, the event is designed to nurture leadership, civic responsibility, and life skills among school students. P. Ganapathy Rajkumar, Member of Parliament, Coimbatore, who inaugurated the parliament simulation on June 27, 2025 (Friday), emphasised the importance of democratic participation and leadership. He urged students not just to exercise their right to vote but also to consider active roles in governance, policymaking, and public service. Manimekalai Mohandoss, managing trustee of SSVM Institutions, and Mohandoss, trustee, SSVM Institutions, highlighted the significance of experiential learning models like Yi Parliament in shaping responsible, empathetic, and well-informed future citizens. More than 150 students from 22 schools across Coimbatore, including 30 students from the Corporation Schools, participated in the event. Acting as MPs, students drafted bills, debated policies, and engaged in structured parliamentary proceedings, mirroring the real-world functioning of the Indian Parliament.
