Atlanta e-bike ridership saw more than 60% increase since 2024
The City of Atlanta has made several changes to its non-car transport options over the years since launching programs in 2018.
Initially, the city approved use of e-bikes and e-scooters for additional ways to get around Atlanta, but as Channel 2 Action News has reported over the years, the e-bikes and e-scooters haven't been without issues for residents, prompting regulations by the city council. Rideshare company Uber even got in on it.
On the flip side, the city still encourages the use of e-bikes through multiple, and recent, rebates for purchase.

Despite the changes to regulations on the micromobility vehicles, newly released data for Atlanta shows ridership is booming.
Atlanta has two official e-bike and e-scooter servicers, Lime and Bird.

Data from Lime shows that since 2024, ridership of the green and white scooters and bikes has increased by 62%.
The company said its usership in 2025 is already record-breaking, with more than 200,000 trips taken on their vehicles since the start of the year.
'February ridership in 2025 is 62% higher than in 2024, and an astonishing increase of 200% from 2023,' according to a Lime announcement.
With thousands of riders and more than 100,000 trips in just February, Lime said their use in Atlanta shows the potential for moving away from being car-dependent.
'I am excited to see Lime ridership taking off in Atlanta, because it shows how incredible the potential is for micromobility to succeed even in a city that is historically car-dependent. Channel 2 Action News is working to get similar information on ridership from Bird and the City of Atlanta for a fuller picture of the city's e-bike and e-scooter situation.

Forsyth County leaders approve $225 million development in hopes of attracting the NHL
Forsyth County leaders voted unanimously to approve a major development, all in hopes of bringing a pro hockey team to north Georgia. This was the final vote on the $225 million project and a critical step in efforts to attract a hockey team. This was a prerequisite,' Krouse told Channel 2's Bryan Mims. It's named 'The Gathering at South Forsyth' and would be located along Georgia 400 between Alpharetta and Cumming. The National Hockey League has not said it plans to expand and bring a franchise to the Atlanta market. However, Krause says the demand is here and his development can accommodate a team. 'A lot of people in this state believe we should have a hockey team. I believe we're gonna have one,' Krause said. Forsyth County commissioners agreed to provide $225 million in bond financing, but only if The Gathering lands a pro hockey team. With county officials approving these final, critical documents, Krause plans to meet with the NHL commissioner after the Stanley Cup playoffs. It's been a lot of hard work by a lot of people. It's nice to see when your hard work, our team has worked hard, it has paid off,' Krause explained. Krause says he talked with Commissioner Gary Bettman this week. He says if this final approval from the county came today, Bettman would meet with him after the NHL finals. Krause says he expects a decision from the NHL about expansion at the latest by the end of this year.

NYC taxi lender fined $4M over 'fake news' plants
A New York financier and his publicly traded firm that bankrolled loans to taxi drivers were fined $4 million for planting fake news articles online to boost the company's stock price. Medallion Financial Corp. — which got hit a decade ago as ride-sharing apps like Uber and Lyft began to tank the value of taxi medallions — will have to pay $3 million as part of a settlement after a ruling by Judge Lewis A. Kaplan of the US Southern District of New York. Medallion president Andrew Murstein — who made headlines when he hired Nicki Minaj to perform at his son's bar mitzvah in 2015 — must fork out over $1 million in a ruling on a case brought by the Securities and Exchange Commission, according to a May 29 securities filing. 5 Medallion president Andrew Murstein, seen here at a Yankees game, has been hit with a $1 million fine. Causi The SEC complaint, brought in December 2021 under the agency's President Biden-appointed chair Gary Gensler, contained 'more than sufficient allegations to support the claim that Murstein and Medallion Financial misled investors by withholding information material to Medallion Bank's fair value,' Kaplan wrote in a separate filing. The Post previously reported on Murstein's brazen scheme to secretly pay for 'fake news' stories as the rise of Uber and Lyft caused investors to sour on taxi-related stocks, leaving Medallion's share price floundering. Judge Kaplan ruled that securities laws were broken when the top executive hired media strategists to place at least 50 stories from 2014 to 2017 on sites such as HuffPost and Crain's New York Business. The taxi medallion lender also failed to disclose that the authors of the bogus blogs were being paid, and that many of the stories had been personally tweaked and edited by Murstein. It resulted in the value of Medallion's banking unit jumping to $280 million at the end of 2016, from $166 million just two quarters earlier, even as the price of medallions slumped. California PR agent Lawrence Meyers, one of the main communications specialists hired by Murstein, must also pay a $100,000 fine, according to SEC filings. As part of the settlement deal, all defendants neither admit nor deny the allegations, the ruling said. Neighbors, business owners on Cascade Road fed up with years of construction
Neighbors and business owners along a busy corridor in southwest Atlanta just want to see the end to construction and detours. For over three years, more than two miles of Cascade Road have been under construction. 'We are watching our community slowly poisoned to death,' one neighbor said. 'I don't know if I can make it though the peak season because of construction,' one owner said. Neighbors have also complained about sections of the road already completed. Channel 2 Action News showed you video last month of the narrow lanes. After the sidewalks were widened for bikers and walkers, it left little room for cars, let alone buses, garbage trucks and emergency vehicles to pass each other. Atlanta City Councilmember Marci Collier Overstreet said the goal of the project was to slow down traffic and make it safe. Officials brought out two firetrucks last week to see if they fit side-by-side. 'The demonstration showed it was too narrow…100%," Overstreet said. Overstreet said the city and organizations are trying to help businesses make it through. 'It is a long journey, going on way too long, and we'll all be better off once we're on the other side of this and it's buttoned up,' she said. Channel 2 Action News reached out to the Atlanta Department of Transportation, but officials did not give a hard date for the project's completion.
