Using the license plate, the suspect was identified as a 50-year-old Winder resident. A warrant will be obtained for his arrest.
DUI CHARGED: On March 7 and 8, deputies responded to numerous 911 calls along U.S. Highway 441 and other roads from Watkinsville to Bishop. The calls all involved a gray Ford F-150 vehicle that was seen by other motorists traveling in a reckless and dangerous manner. A woman reported she saw the pickup swerving along the road behind her and she was afraid it was following her so she didn't stop at her home near Lavista Road. Another caller reported a reckless driver in a pickup in the Bishop area whose actions made him fear for his life. Sgt. Lex Ogan responded to a call in Stonebridge subdivision near Watkinsville, where the pickup was seen traveling at a high rate of speed. A teenage girl believed the man was following her. Ogan spotted the pickup backing up over a curb, so he made a traffic stop. The 27-year-old Macon man explained he had a 'misdirection.' He said he left a political fundraiser, however, he had no idea how he ended up in the subdivision. He denied following the girl, and although he denied drinking, he smelled of alcohol and his eyes were bloodshot and speech slurred. The pickup, owned by Farm Bureau company, was towed. The man refused any roadside sobriety tests and refused a blood alcohol test. Ogan also interviewed a Stonebridge woman walking her dog who said the pickup was traveling at a high speed and another resident, who said she drove off the road and into a yard to avoid a wreck. The man was jailed for DUI, reckless driving and having an open container of alcohol.

MPD: False carjacking report leads to two arrests

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A driver who claimed he was carjacked early Saturday morning was charged with making a false report after police determined he made up the story. Edwin Blandon Moren, 45, allegedly told officers that two men in a white sedan pulled him out of his Ford F-150 at Macon and Highland and drove off in the vehicle. He said they also took his cell phone, cash, and credit cards. Where did 100,000 registered vehicles go in Shelby County? The Ford pickup was spotted a couple of hours later in a parking lot on Summer Avenue, and police arrested a woman who jumped out of the vehicle and tried to run away. Investigators said Moreno later admitted he had picked up a woman on Summer and went to a motel with her. He said that while he was in the shower, she took his wallet and drove off in his truck. Adrienne Campbell, 26, was charged with theft of property and evading arrest and is being held on a $25,000 bond. Court records show Campbell was arrested twice in 2024 for similar crimes. MPD: Home burglarized while suspects were live on Facebook In one case, she was accused of stealing a car from a female friend, and in another case, from a man who had given her a ride. Virginia man convicted in 2023 ambush, murder of NJ councilwoman

A man accused of ambushing and killing New Jersey councilwoman and evangelical minister Eunice Dwumfour was found guilty Monday of her murder. Rashid Ali Bynum, 30, was convicted by a jury of nine men and three women after five hours of deliberation Friday and another hour and 15 minutes on Monday morning, the Newark Star Ledger reported. Dwumfour's husband and other family members wept at the verdict. The Newark-born and raised Dwumfour, 30, a Republican serving her first term on the Sayreville Council, had just dropped off a roommate after coming home from Walmart the night she was shot. She went to park while he brought the groceries into their rented home at the Camelot at La Mer apartment complex. At 7:22 p.m. she was shot 14 times while sitting in her car. The car rolled downhill about 100 feet and smashed into two parked cars. Surveillance footage later surfaced of a mysterious figure fleeing the scene, corroborating neighbors' descriptions. Dwumfour had beaten a Democratic incumbent in 2021 to become the town's first Black elected official. She was also a staple in the community for her work in the church. She lived at the Camelot at La Mer apartment complex with her preteen daughter and two roommates. Just a few months earlier she had a fellow pastor of her Nigeria-based church, the prosperity gospel group Champions Royal Assembly. Husband Peter Ezechukwu was due to arrive from Nigeria that spring. Police finally caught up with and arrested Bynum, a former church associate of Dwumfour's, in August 2023. He was indicted on murder and weapons charges the same month and denied bail. Bynum's attorney, Michael Ashley, told reporters after the verdict 'there was no direct evidence' his client had pulled the trigger, and that Bynum 'almost certainly' planned to appeal. He's scheduled for sentencing in August and faces 30 years to life in prison. With News Wire Services
