Israel Torturing Abdullah Al-Barghouti Into Repeated Coma
The Prisoners' Media Office, Asra, has sounded the alarm over the horrific abuse endured by high-profile Palestinian prisoner Abdullah al-Barghouti, describing his condition as the result of a 'systematic assassination attempt' involving brutal physical torture and psychological torment.
'In the dark cell, where there is no sunlight and no medicine, the body is crushed just as the will is—unless one's heart clings to the sky of truth and their soul is woven from the patience of mountains,' the Asra office said in a statement.
Recent reports reveal that the 53-year-old is subject to increasingly violent assaults, including severe beatings that have left his body covered in bruises, his head swollen and bloodied, his eyes puffed shut, and his ribs fractured—causing unbearable pain and robbing him of sleep.
'Daily chapters of excruciating pain'
Asra Media Office shared a chilling testimony from his daughter Tala, lamenting that al-Barghouti 'endures daily chapters of excruciating pain' as a result of systematic torture and deliberate medical neglect—what the office has condemned as a 'slow, intentional execution.'
'My father no longer sleeps lying down — pain devours his body. He sleeps sitting up, and his weight has dropped below 70 kilograms,' Tala said. She added that prison guards empty al-Barghouti's cell of all other inmates before each torture session, leaving him utterly defenseless.
'Iron rods and unrestrained brutality rain down on his frail body, breaking his bones and compounding his suffering to the point where he can no longer stand,' her testimony continued . Open wounds and boils are left untreated, forcing fellow prisoners to attempt care with rudimentary materials, further threatening his life.
In another statement on Tuesday, April 29, Asra Office revealed that Israeli prison suppression units, under the command of an officer named Amir, routinely storm al-Barghouti's cell and beat him until he bleeds. Dogs are then released to maul his battered body. 'Let the dogs have some fun with him,' Amir reportedly orders.
The torture doesn't end there, as prison guards pour hot dishwashing liquid onto al-Barghouti's wounds to intensify the pain. Officers taunt him during these sessions, saying: 'You were once a leader—now you're nothing. You should die.'
Due to the unrelenting torture, al-Barghouti has fallen into repeated comas — likely signs of traumatic brain injury caused by sustained Israeli torture.
Asra says his hand was recently wrapped in a garbage bag and a cardboard toilet paper roll in place of any proper medical dressing—emphasizing the complete absence of medical care.
'A stain on the conscience'
Tala's account, confirmed by Asra's latest statement, reveals that al-Barghouti is no longer able to sleep normally and is forced to sit curled on the floor due to the pain. He hasn't been allowed to bathe for 12 days, and his ability to chew is so compromised he can only consume water-soaked bread.
Asra has fiercely condemned the deafening international silence that has emboldened Israel to escalate its crimes—calling the torture of al-Barghouti'a stain on the conscience of all who claim to defend human rights.'
'Today, Abdullah al-Barghouti is not only serving a life sentence—he is enduring a slow death sentence under a regime of escalating repression and intentional medical neglect targeting Palestinian prisoners, especially those in solitary confinement,' said the group.
In a plea to 'save a life fading behind walls of silence,' Asra called on international human rights organizations—especially the International Committee of the Red Cross—to urgently visit al-Barghouti and assess his condition.
Al-Barghouti, known as the 'prince of the shadows,' is a prominent leader in Hamas's military wing, the al-Qassam Brigades. Arrested in 2003, he is serving 67 life sentences in Gilboa prison in northern Palestine.
As Israel continues its live-streamed genocide in Gaza, it has simultaneously intensified its abuses against Palestinian prisoners. Since October 2023, 65 Palestinian detainees—including a child— have died in Israeli custody amid well-documented torture.
There are nearly 10,000 Palestinians in Israeli jails, including around 400 children and nearly 4,000 people held without charge or trial.

‘Solidarity is Not a Crime': Global Outcry as Israel Illegally Seizes Gaza Flotilla
Rabat – In a move that has sparked global outrage, Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) intercepted the Gaza-bound British-flagged vessel 'Madleen' in international waters in the early hours of Monday and detained all activists on board, including Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg. The ship, organized by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, was carrying humanitarian aid and sailing peacefully toward Gaza when Israeli commandos boarded it about 100 nautical miles (185 kilometers) from the Palestinian shores. The activists, who have been closely followed and supported around the world online for weeks, aimed to break the Israeli blockade on Gaza and deliver vital food and medical supplies to Palestinians facing severe shortages due to Israel's ongoing blockade. They knew the risks, especially as the last vessel 'Conscience' was unlawfully bombed by the IOF prior, and what was feared came to reality. SOS! the volunteers on 'Madleen' have been kidnapped by Israeli forces. Greta Thunberg is a Swedish citizen. Pressure their foreign ministries and help us keep them safe! Web: X : @SweMFA FB : @SweMFA IG : swedishmfa#AllEyesOnMadeleen — Freedom Flotilla Coalition (@GazaFFlotilla) June 9, 2025 'The Madleen was unlawfully boarded by the Israeli military. Quadcopters approached and attacked the people and the boat spraying a white chemical-like substance hurting their eyes…We have not yet heard from the 12 people who were aboard the Madleen. Their whereabouts remain unknown,' the coalition said in an official press release. According to Israeli authorities, the ship has been redirected to the port of Ashdod. The activists are expected to be deported after being forced to watch footage of the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel, a controversial and manipulative decision condemned by human rights groups. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz congratulated Israeli forces for seizing the peaceful vessel carrying vital aid and accused Thunberg and others of supporting Hamas, claims dismissed by many as baseless. All the passengers of the 'selfie yacht' are safe and unharmed. They were provided with sandwiches and water. The show is over. — Israel Foreign Ministry (@IsraelMFA) June 9, 2025 International backlash Governments and rights organizations around the world have denounced the unlawful seizure. France demanded the quick return of its six citizens aboard. 'As soon as the ship was boarded, we requested to be able to exercise our consular protection over them' and to 'visit' them as soon as they reached Israeli territory, 'in order to ascertain their situation and facilitate their rapid return to France', said France's foreign minister. Spain summoned Israel's top diplomat in protest, while Sweden offered what meany described as 'vague support' to Thunberg and other Swedish nationals, while Turkiye called the move a 'clear violation of international law.' Iran described the act as 'piracy,' and Amnesty International said Israel had no legal right to stop the vessel, especially since it was in international waters. 'As the occupying power, Israel has a legal obligation to ensure civilians in Gaza have sufficient food and medicine. They should have let Madleen deliver its humanitarian supplies to Gaza,' said Amnesty chief Agnes Callamard. The ship's supporters confirm the mission was peaceful and legal. Organizers accuse Israel of violating maritime and humanitarian law by blocking desperately needed aid. UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese, who spoke to the crew during the incident, demanded their immediate release. 'Breaking the siege is a legal duty for states and a moral imperative for all of us,' she said. Meanwhile, the Jewish Council of Australia warned that Israel cannot be trusted with the activists' safety and urged the Australian government to intervene. The Left group in the European Parliament called the act a 'blatant violation of international law' and demanded the release of the crew. 'Solidarity is not a crime' Before setting sail, the 12 brave activists aboard the Madleen recorded video messages in case they were intercepted. In one, European Parliament member Rima Hassan predicted that Israel would handcuff the crew, take them to Ashdod, and interrogate them. She urged people to pressure governments to act. The Freedom Flotilla Coalition continues to insist that humanitarian aid must reach Gaza and that international pressure is needed to stop what many are calling a campaign of starvation and destruction. 'Solidarity is not a crime,' said one European political group. 'Genocide is.' The world now awaits to seehow governments will respond, and whether more aid ships will attempt to break the blockade in the days to come. the Gaza-bound British-flagged vessel 'Madleen' Regardless of the outcome, the Madleen did what international governments have failed to do so far — to take concrete action, break the long Israeli blockade, and bring much-needed food and medicine to those suffering inside. The activists on board the Madleen were not just delivering aid, they were sending a symbolic message against the ongoing Israeli genocidal war and the way Palestinians in Gaza are being treated. For months, people in Gaza have faced bombing, hunger, and being cut off from the rest of the world at the hands of Israel's genocidal forces. The crew's communication has been cut off and whereabouts unknown, leaving their families, friends, and the world anxiously waiting for updates on the critical situation.

UNICEF: 50,000 Children Killed or Injured in Gaza
Rabat_ As the world marks the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression, few places reflect the meaning of this day with more devastating clarity than the Gaza Strip, where Israel's ongoing genocide has turned Palestinian childhood into a global site of horror, grief, and impunity. The Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement issued a statement on the occasion, urging immediate and decisive global action to stop the genocide in Gaza. The Palestinian-led movement called for 'targeted lawful diplomatic, sports and other sanctions on Israel' to halt the mass killing of civilians, especially children. It also reiterated the demand for a comprehensive military and energy embargo on Israel, insisting that those responsible for the massacres in Palestine be prosecuted through international legal mechanisms. The world must not only 'stand in mourning, but in urgent demand for justice,' the statement stressed. 'Nowhere is this day more tragically embodied than against Palestinian children in Gaza, where Israel's ongoing and livestreamed genocide has resulted in the mass killing of Palestinian children,' the BDS movement declared. It recalled that UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned in November 2023 that Gaza was 'becoming a graveyard for children.' Nearly 20 months into Israel's genocidal assault, the phrase is no longer metaphorical. Even the graveyards themselves have been bombed. The scale of violence unleashed on Gaza's children defies moral comprehension and numerical abstraction. Israel's unimaginable violence in Gaza In a statement on May 27, UNICEF revealed that over 50,000 children have been killed or injured in Gaza since Israel began its assault in October 2023. The UN agency has described this grim figure as 'unimaginable.' Edouard Beigbeder, UNICEF's Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, condemned the violence as part of a pattern of systemic, targeted harm. His statement marked the last weekend of May as another chapter of carnage: On May 24, an Israeli airstrike obliterated the al-Najjar family home in Khan Younis, killing nearly all ten siblings under the age of 12. Only one child survived, critically injured. On May 27, a school in Gaza City sheltering displaced families was attacked, reportedly killing at least 31 people, including 18 children. 'These children — lives that should never be reduced to numbers — are now part of a long, harrowing list of unimaginable horrors,' Beigbeder said. 'Grave violations against children, the blockade of aid, starvation, forced displacement, and the systematic destruction of civilian infrastructure — in essence, the destruction of life itself in the Gaza Strip.' Long before the genocide in Gaza escalated, Palestinian children held a haunting place in Arab consciousness. And now more than ever, they stand as symbols of resilience, born into brutal military occupation, exile, siege, and ethnic cleansing. Israel has robbed generations of Palestinians of the sweet oblivion of childhood. Today, the image of a Palestinian child is one of unimaginable grief: thousand-yard stares, lone survivors sitting beside the corpses of their families, tiny hands carrying bloodied remains and amputated limbs. These children identify their mothers only by strands of hair, die with a fist of rice clutched in their hands, or lie weightless under the rubble of their homes, their souls hovering silently above.

Israeli Forces Turn Gaza Aid Sites into ‘Death Traps,' 102 Killed
Rabat – Israeli forces have killed more than 100 Palestinians and injured around 460 in the past eight days while they were trying to get food from aid distribution points in Rafah, southern Gaza, according to Gaza's Government Media Office. Officials and eyewitnesses are accusing Israeli forces of targeting the heads and chests of starving civilians at sites set up to provide humanitarian aid. The aid points were located in western Rafah, a zone previously declared by Israel as a 'safe humanitarian area.' But civil defence teams and witnesses say these locations have turned into 'death traps,' with Israeli forces opening fire on crowds of people trying to collect food. Many of the victims were shot while holding food parcels, including women trying to feed their families, said Al Jazeera correspondent Hind Khoudary. Doctors say most of the injuries were to the head, chest, and upper body, suggesting that people were deliberately targeted. Doctors at the Nasser Hospital said that many of the injured are being treated in intensive care, as the facility is running out of blood units and essential medical supplies. One of the survivors, 30-year-old Rania al-Astal, told AFP that she went with her husband to collect food early in the morning. 'The shooting began around 5 am. Every time people approached Al-Alam roundabout, they were fired upon,' she said. Another witness, 44-year-old Mohammed al-Shaer, said that at first, Israeli soldiers fired into the air, but then they started shooting directly at people. 'A helicopter and quadcopters [drones] started firing at the crowd to prevent them from approaching the tank barrier. There were injuries and deaths,' he added. Israeli attacks on civilians near US-backed aid distribution centers have drawn international condemnation. Jeremy Laurence, spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, said the killing of over 100 Palestinians is deeply concerning. 'Can you imagine someone who is so desperate for food that they are making this trek over a long distance, and the fear that they must have – that they could even be shot or that they may even come back with no food?' Laurence told Al Jazeera. He said that attacking civilians is a grave breach of international law and may be considered a war crime. The US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, which oversees some of the aid efforts, has not commented on the accusations. However, local officials are calling for urgent international intervention to protect civilians and ensure safe delivery of food and medical aid.
