Ashghal welcomes students to North Doha wastewater treatment plant
DOHA: Ashghal has welcomed students from Oryx Universal College in collaboration with Liverpool John Moores University to the North Doha wastewater treatment plant, the first in Qatar to use sustainable systems to reduce odours and emissions, protecting the environment and public health.
Over two days, Eng Hassan Al-Ansari from Drainage Networks Operations led students on an educational tour of the wastewater treatment plant, teaching them about the process and importance of wastewater treatment, recycling, and safe sewage disposal to maintain ecological balance.
Students expressed admiration for the efficiency of Qatar's sustainable water solutions, as Ashghal's 21 treatment plants produced over 1 billion m³ of treated water in the last 4 years, 73% of which was used for irrigation of green spaces, animal feed farms, & district cooling.

Qatar's Ashghal announces completion of roads, infrastructure development project in Al Kharaitiyat, Izghawa
DOHA: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) announced the completion of works of the third package of the Roads and Infrastructure Development Project in Al Kharaitiyat and Izghawa, which the Authority is implementing within four development packages with the aim of enhancing road network and infrastructure services to serve citizens' lands in the area. Head of North Areas Section of the Roads Projects Department at Ashghal EngAbdulla Al Naemi said that the third package of the project aims to achieve extensive improvements which, upon completion, will serve about 1,383 plots in the area through the development of internal streets and construction of shared pedestrian and cycling paths, in addition to developing infrastructure facilities such as rainwater and groundwater drainage networks and other networks to provide integrated infrastructure services and improve the quality of life of the area residents. For his part, Project Engineer Jassim Kano explaieded that this package of the Al Kharaitiyat and Izghawa project provides about 42 km of roads, with the installation of 1,783 street lighting poles and traffic safety elements, and the provision of 7,300 parking spaces designated for cars. Within the scope of the project, infrastructure networks were also developed, which include a surface and groundwater drainage network with a total length of 33 km, a treated water network with a length of 13 km, in addition to a wastewater drainage network with a length of 32 km, in addition to 6.5 km of power line works and 19 km of telecommunications lines, he added. The project's planting works cover an area of 9,250 square meters, and the shared pedestrian and cycling paths will extend over 84 kilometers. Local materials and manufacturers were relied upon in most of the project work, with the local component reaching 70 percent of the total materials used, as local Qatari sources were relied upon, which include, for example, lighting poles, drainage pipes, precast manholes, electrical cables, directional signs, and interlocking. Saudi Arabia's aid tops $134bln across 172 countries
LONDON — Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah said that Saudi Arabia has provided over $134 billion in aid to 172 countries during the period between 1996 and 2025. Addressing a meeting with members of the UK House of Lords in the United Kingdom's parliament in London on Monday, he noted that KSrelief was established on May 13, 2015 as a generous initiative by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman to serve as a specialized entity delivering diverse humanitarian and relief programs. 'The KSrelief has implemented 3,400 projects in 107 countries, with a total value of some $8 billion, covering vital sectors such as food security, education, health, protection, nutrition, water and sanitation, and other essential areas to address humanitarian needs worldwide,' he said. Dr. Al-Rabeeah pointed out that the center has carried out 1,089 projects specifically dedicated to women worldwide, with a total value exceeding $868 million, and 1,029 projects focused on children, worth over $1 billion, benefiting more than 219 million children. The KSrelief chief highlighted that the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program, a globally unique initiative that receives conjoined and parasitic twins from around the world and covers all expenses related to their separation surgeries, medical care, and post-operative rehabilitation. Since its inception in 1990, the program has evaluated 149 cases from 27 countries and successfully performed 62 separation surgeries. Regarding refugees in the Kingdom, Dr. Al-Rabeeah noted that Saudi Arabia is among the leading host countries, referring to refugees as "visitors," with a total of 1,095,029 individuals from Yemen, Syria, and Myanmar. The Kingdom grants them the right to work and provides free healthcare and education in public schools. Oman: EA launches initiative to combat desertification in North Sharqiyah
Wadi Bani Khalid – Environment Authority (EA) has launched an initiative aimed at combating desertification and promoting sustainability in Wadi Bani Khalid, North Sharqiyah. Called 'Wild Cropping to Combat Desertification', the initiative is a collaborative effort led by Directorate General of Housing and Urban Planning in North Sharqiyah, the Environment Department and North Sharqiyah Municipality. As part of the initiative, 5,000 wild trees will be planted in Al Rumayl and Hayal. The reforestation plan aims to increase natural vegetation cover, preserve native wild plant species, and curb the expansion of desertification and environmental degradation. Several volunteer groups and local sports teams of the wilayat are also participating in the initiative, highlighting the role of community engagement in environmental protection. An EA official said the initiative is a cornerstone of the national strategy to fight desertification, aligning closely with goals of Oman Vision 2040 in environmental conservation.
