Fort Drum to conduct live artillery exercise through May 19
FORT DRUM, N.Y. (WWTI) – Fort Drum will be conducting a live artillery qualification exercise that will last through the weekend.
According to base officials, the 10th Mountain Division Artillery and 2nd Battalion, 15th Field Artillery Regiment will conduct a live artillery exercise.
Fort Drum Day celebrated at state Capitol in Albany
The exercise will start on Saturday, May 17 through Monday, May 19. This training is in conjunction with the ongoing field training exercise, Mountain Peak.
This live artillery qualification is known as Table XVIII Certification and is a battalion-level qualification that tests the unit's ability to deliver precise and timely fire support necessary for mission success. Units will conduct the artillery qualification using the M119A3 Howitzer and the M777A2 Howitzer.
Residents around the Fort Drum training areas can expect increased activity and elevated noise levels throughout the duration of the exercise.

Theresa native Lance Willix picked up the victory over Watertown native Billy Dunn in the 25-lap 358-modified feature. Tyler Meeks, Derek Webb and Remington Hamm rounded out the top five. The Zeigler 67 race was pushed back until this weekend. June 6: Relay For Life at Evans Mills This weekend's scheduled card will be legends night with the pits opening at 3 p.m. Saturday. Lewis County residents invited to comment trial system expansion
LOWVILLE, N.Y. (WWTI) – The Lewis County Recreation, Forestry and Parks Department is seeking input from the public as it works to expand the Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Trail System in the towns of Watson, Glenfield, and Greig. A public meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 25 at the 3G Firehall on 6229 Blue Street in Glenfield. The meeting will focus on state regulations regarding OHV Community Connectors and explore opportunities to expand off-road trails in the region. SNIRT Run in Lewis County faces uncertain future after this year's cancelation Department director Jackie Mahoney will be present to explain the trail development process, review landowner agreements, and answer questions from the community.
