First arrest, charges made for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women cold case unit
Two years after a cold case unit was formed to focus on missing and murdered Indigenous women and people, an arrest has been made in a case.
On May 21, Attorney General Nick Brown filed second-degree murder charges against Tina Alcorn for the 2016 death of George David.
David was a resident of Neah Bay and a member of the Clayoquat Indian Band of Vancouver, B.C.
He was found dead on March 28, 2016 at the age of 65 in Port Angeles.
Alcorn, who has ties to Clallam County, was identified early in the investigation as the primary suspect, according to Brown.
However, charges David's death were not filed, and Alcorn was extradited to Arkansas and incarcerated for violating probation on an unrelated felony theft conviction
In 2024, Port Angeles police requested the assistance of the new cold case team. Supported by the MMIWP Cold Case Team, the department conducted additional investigation into evidence collected in 2016, including additional DNA analysis performed by the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab, Brown said.
'I want to commend our cold case team for their work on behalf of victims and families,' Brown said. 'This is a milestone on a long path toward accountability. The Legislature funded this work because so many people would not give up the pursuit of justice for their loved ones.'

(WETM) — A Coudersport man and six others were arrested in connection to a large-scale drug smuggling operation that saw pounds of meth and fentanyl enter northern Pennsylvania from New York, according to a release from the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office. Pennsylvanians can now carry concealed firearms in 30th state All seven were arrested on the charges of felony possession with the intent to deliver, conspiracy, and other related offenses. Attorney General Sunday said that Simms and Brown worked together while others operated alone. Simms is considered a mid-level dealer and is accused of trafficking between 30 and 40 pounds of meth in one year from New York. As mentioned above, Simms is already incarcerated in a state prison, but Brown is at the McKean County Prison on $50,000 bail. Fourth policeman killed in clashes with Morales backers in Bolivia
A Bolivian policeman taken hostage by protesters has died after an explosive detonated on him, bringing to four the toll among officers who clashed with followers of ex-president Evo Morales, officials said Thursday. Supporters of Morales, who led the Andean country from 2006 to 2019, began blocking key roads on June 2 over electoral authorities' refusal to allow him to run for a fourth term in August 17 elections. The protests have since snowballed into a wider revolt over President Luis Arce's handling of a deep economic crisis, marked by severe shortages of hard currency and fuel. On Wednesday, three officers deployed to clear a roadblock in Llallagua, a mining town in the country's southwest, were shot dead in violent clashes with protesters, police said. On Thursday, Justice Minister Cesar Siles said a fourth officer, Cristan Calle Alcon, died. Deputy Interior Minister Jhonny Aguilera said Alcon had been "taken hostage by a horde" and was killed by "the use of dynamite" on his person -- apparently a device taped to his chest. Aguilera announced the military will be sent to Llallagua to "guarantee a state of calm and of peace." Several dozen people have been reported injured in clashes in the town since Tuesday.
