A man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after a fire in an apartment block in Santry last night.
Gardai and Dublin Fire Brigade rushed to the apartment building at Temple Court just after 7pm yesterday evening. Dublin Fire Brigade sent seven engines, including a turntable ladder, to the scene.
The building was evacuated as smoke became visible across parts of north Dublin. Firefighters worked to contain the fire, and were able to put it out.
One man, aged in his 30s, had to be rushed from the scene to Beaumont Hospital. His condition is described as serious.
No other injuries were reported. Gardai have now launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí assisted emergency services at the scene of a fire at a residential premises on Temple Court in Santry, Dublin 9, that occurred on the evening of Wednesday 14th May 2025. The building was evacuated and the fire was subsequently extinguished by local fire services.
"A male (aged in his 30s) was conveyed to Beaumont Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. No other injuries were reported.
"The scene remains preserved for forensic examination. Investigations are ongoing."

It's alleged he raped a woman at a Boston hotel during St. Patrick's Day weekend celebrations in the city last year. Witnesses from Ireland are expected to be called to give evidence at the trial at Suffolk Superior Court when it gets underway. Opening statements in the trial of the married father are expected to begin within the next week. He's been held at Nashua Street jail in Boston since his arrested last year. The 38-year-old from Dublin was detained at Boston Logan International Airport as he attempted to fly back to Ireland a day early after speaking to cops. Prosecutors allege he raped the 'female stranger' as she slept during a visit to Boston with members of the Dublin Fire Brigade. The woman (28) said she went to the Black Rose Irish Pub with her co-workers when she met an Irish man and his colleagues. Video allegedly shows the woman leaving the restaurant with the man at around 11.30pm, and returning to the hotel room he was sharing with Crosbie at the hotel. The man and the woman had a 'consensual encounter' before falling asleep in separate beds. She said she awoke to Crosbie on top of her, raping her. Court records state that she demanded he stop, but in response Crosbie allegedly said that he 'knew she wanted it', and called his friend 'pathetic' for falling asleep. The woman left the hotel and messaged a friend to say she had been assaulted. She went to hospital where she spoke to cops and underwent a sexual assault examination. In August, prosecutors requested a DNA swab from Crosbie for comparative testing after a rape kit from the woman found male DNA. Terence Crosbie at a previous court hearing 'A known DNA sample from the defendant will produce evidence relevant to the question of his guilt,' Assistant District Attorney Erin Murphy said. According to court documents, Crosbie objected to providing a sample on 'grounds of unreasonable searches and seizures.' In an interview with police, Crosbie denied the rape. He told police he climbed into bed not knowing she was even there, but he heard her gather her clothes and leave the room. His lawyer. Daniel C. Reilly said that his client was 'not concerned about what the DNA is going to return or say,' adding that 'he is adamant that he had no physical contact with her.' At a previous hearing, lawyers representing the Dublin Fire Brigade firefighter said he will 'do everything' to clear his name. 'I can tell you right now, he is going to fight and clear his name and do everything that he can to address these charges and maintain his innocence,' Boston attorney Brad Bailey told Boston 25 News Reporter Bob Ward. 'This is a man, Bob, who has never been in trouble before. Has no prior record, has never been in jail. Here he is, in a jail cell with no ability to make bail, really in a situation that is arguably punitive for somebody who has the presumption of innocence,' Bailey said. We cannot comment on the specific circumstances but we would reiterate the high standards that we expect from all who represent our organisation at any event. Teen killed in Kildare pick-up truck crash

More info A teenager has been killed after a pick-up truck crash in Kildare. Gardai and emergency services rushed to the accident yesterday evening on Barretstown Road in Newbridge. The male teen was the passenger in the truck. The driver, also a male teen, has been brought to Tallaght Hospital, but his condition is not life-threatening. The pick-up truck was the only vehicle involved in the crash, and there were no other reported injuries. The road remains closed this morning. Gardai are now appealing for any witnesses or anyone with footage of the area to come forward. A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision on Barrettstown Road, Newbridge, Co. Kildare yesterday, Thursday 5th June 2025. Gardaí and emergency services responded to the collision involving a single vehicle, a pick-up truck, shortly after 8pm. "The passenger, an adult male in his late teens, was taken to Naas General Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. The Coroner has been informed and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course. "The male driver, aged in his teens, was taken to Tallaght Hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. There were no other injuries reported. "The road remains closed at this time pending examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place. "Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 7.45pm and 8.15pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí. The three-vehicle accident happened yesterday on the R415 at Boley Little, near Athy, at around 7:30pm. One of the motorcyclists, a man in his 20s, was rushed to Tallaght Hospital. His condition is described as serious. The other motorcyclist, also a man in his 20s, was brought to Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise, where his condition is believed to not be life-threatening. Irish resident released in Iraq after more than four years in custody

More info A Roscommon resident has been released by authorities in Iraq – after being locked up for more than four years, it has emerged. Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Harris tonight revealed that Robert Pether – who is an Australian citizen but had been living in Elphin with his Irish family – was released on bail earlier today. Mr Harris, who has been working to secure the engineer's release for several months, said his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein contacted him to tell him of the development. Construction engineer Mr Pether, 49, who is married to Desree Pether, 53, from Roscommon, has been locked up since April 2021. The father-of-three was jailed over four years ago in a €20 million contract row between his Dubai-based employer and the Central Bank of Iraq. His distraught family in Ireland revealed Mr Pether, who previously had melanoma skin cancer, has a prostate that is "three times (the) normal size" and that he also has gallstones. Mr Pether and an Egyptian colleague had been employed by a Dubai-based construction company, CME Consulting, to build a new Central Bank in Baghdad, when the contract row erupted. They are accused of stealing money from the project, which they both deny. The United Nations has slammed his jailing as "arbitrary detention." He was due to be released last January but Iraq issued new charges against them and he was facing a further 15 years in custody – until Mr Harris intervened earlier this year. He was a free man tonight - although he must remain in Iraq for the meantime. But the Tánaiste welcomed the decision to free him. He said: "This evening, I have been informed of the release on bail of Robert Pether, whose imprisonment in Iraq has been a case of great concern. "This is very welcome news in what has been a long and distressing saga for Robert's wife, three children and his wider family and friends. "Foreign Minister Hussein of Iraq, whom I spoke to last month to urge Robert's release, called me this evening with the news. I was informed that Robert has been released on bail and for the moment he remains in Iraq, but I welcomed this as a first step to his being allowed to return to his family in Roscommon." The Tánaiste also said he had been in contact with Mrs Pether over the release – and said he was grateful to Irish diplomats who had worked on the case. He said: "I also spoke this evening with Robert's wife, Desree Pether, about this positive development. "I want to thank Irish diplomatic officials based in the region for their continued work on this case. "We remain concerned about Robert's health and outstanding charges, but I am hopeful now of a positive resolution in this case."
