Ford ordered to pay $2.5B to Georgia family after couple killed in rollover crash
A Georgia family is being awarded more than $2.5 billion after their loved ones were killed in a rollover crash in 2022.
Herman and Debra Mills were killed when their 2015 Ford F250 'Super Duty' truck rolled over in Decatur County in August 2022.

A Columbus jury found that Ford was mostly at fault for the couple's deaths.
Debra Mills was driving the truck with Herman Mills in the passenger seat when the truck struck a driveway drainage culvert, causing the vehicle to go airborne for about 81 feet before smashing into the ground and flipping over, according to filings in the case obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
According to the lawsuit, attorneys for the couple's sons argued that all of Ford's 'Super Duty' trucks from 1999 to 2016 had 'defective and dangerously weak roofs.'

The crash came just a few days after a Gwinnett County jury awarded $1.7 billion to the family of farmers from Macon County who were killed in a rollover crash in their 2002 Ford F250 'Super Duty' truck.
'While our sympathies go out to the Brogdon family, the verdict is impermissibly extreme and not supported by the evidence,' a Ford spokesperson told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The spokesperson went on to say that Ford plans to appeal the verdict.

Woodstock man gets 50 year sentence for family violence conviction
The Cherokee County District Attorney's Office announced that a man was facing a 50 year sentence after negotiating a plea in a family violence case. District Attorney Susan K. Treadaway said that David Ray Graham, 38 of Woodstock, entered a negotiated plea to multiple charges on Thursday, taking a guilty plea for multiple charges related to a domestic violence assault. According to the DA's office, Graham faced eight charges stemming from a sheriff's office investigation in March 2024. While being treated for what the DA's office said were visible injuries, the victim told deputies that Graham had repeatedly punched and kicked her, threatened her with a machete and hammer and held her against her will in the home. 'This was not an isolated incident. David Graham had abused this woman before, and this time he could have killed her. Even after his arrest, he continued the cycle of abuse by calling from jail to threaten her and pressure her to recant. This sentence holds him accountable and brings justice for the fear and harm he inflicted.' Graham's probation has special conditions, including no contact of any kind with the victim, he must participate in a family violence intervention program, be evaluated and treated for mental health and substance abuse and must forfeit all of his weapons. 'Domestic violence threatens the safety of all citizens and has no place in our community. For this reason, we remain steadfast in our commitment to pursuing justice for all who are affected,' Treadaway said. 'We commend the Cherokee Sheriff's Office and the staff at Northside Cherokee Hospital for their compassionate response to protect and support the woman assaulted by this defendant.' $2.3 million road project underway to improve traffic, safety along busy area road
A long-anticipated road widening project has begun in Beavercreek. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] According to a social media post made by a City of Beavercreek spokesperson, construction along North Fairfield Road has started between Lawson Drive and Fairwood Drive. The City of Beavercreek, in partnership with the Ohio Department of Transportation, is expanding the busy stretch of roadway to include a center left-turn lane. Expanding the roadway from four lanes to five will help reduce congestion and improve safety, according to the post. Of the $2.3 million spent on this construction project, $1.2 million was funded in federal grants, and $1.1 million comes from the city's street levy fund. The project will also include the reconstruction of the 5-foot sidewalk on the west side, as well as curb and storm sewer upgrades. There will also be a new 8-foot sidewalk installed on the east side, and enhancements will be made to the bridge near Be Hope Church, according to the post. My $40k outback from 2020 does this.' The skeptics are correct: this isn't a new feature. Ford F-150s have even reportedly had this feature since at least 2021. It used to be called 'approach lighting'; now it's known as 'welcome lighting.' So why is it being highlighted as a selling point? Wouldn't it make more sense to simply focus on the F-150's reliability, towing capacity, or perhaps its warranty? This dives into the bigger conversation about how consumers have become increasingly driven to buy vehicles based on their technology. There's something of a tech race going on in vehicle manufacturing. Every brand wants to have the newest, most desirable tech under the hood and inside the passenger compartment. Critics say these features are used to distract from the fact that making dependable and reliable cars is slowly becoming a lost art.
