Kurt Geiger opens first store in Miami

Fashion Network28-04-2025

British accessories brand Kurt Geiger London has opened its first store in Miami, Florida.
Located at Aventura Mall, the new boutique spans 2,102 square feet and embodies Kurt Geiger's signature love of colour, glamour and joyful self-expression.
The store's design follows a marquee concept first unveiled at Kurt Geiger's Oxford Street flagship in London. Created by chief creative officer Rebecca Farrar-Hockley, the vibrant space features rainbow-hued glass in diamond and lattice formations, illuminated antique brass shelving, eccentric fringe details and a quintessential English floral print that plays across the interior. Meanwhile, antiqued brass eagles, the brand's signature emblem, are scattered throughout.
The location houses a full range of women's shoes, handbags, accessories, jewellery, swimwear, and sunglasses, while Kurt Geiger's menswear collection is set to debut in-store starting this Fall/Winter.
'This store was such a joy to create – it's bright and full of personality. Miami's sunshine and spirit inspired us to lean into our vibrant and expressive spirit. We want the space to feel uplifting and transportive – a little piece of London creativity, reimagined for Miami,' said Farrar-Hockley.
With its dynamic energy, bold fashion scene and vibrant, multicultural spirit, Miami is a natural home for the Kurt Geiger brand. The opening marks the label's second location in the state and its fifth standalone across North America. It follows the success of its Orlando store, which opened in 2023 and has already surpassed the company's targets.
It also joins existing standalone boutiques in New York, Los Angeles, and San Diego. The brand equally has a strong wholesale presence, with 672 points of distribution across retailers such as Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, and Dillard's. Further US expansion is planned for 2025 and beyond.
'There's so much colour, confidence and creativity in Miami – it's a place that just feels completely aligned with the spirit of Kurt Geiger. We've seen such an incredible response in Orlando, so opening in Aventura Mall felt like the natural next step. We're excited to welcome Miami to our growing family here in North America,' added Neil Clifford, CEO of Kurt Geiger.

UK secures action from Amazon to tackle fake reviews

Amazon has committed to do more to tackle fake reviews, including sanctioning British businesses that boost their ratings through bogus posts, the country's competition watchdog said on Friday. Following a four-year probe, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said Amazon's undertakings also addressed its concerns about 'catalogue abuse' where sellers use the reviews of well-performing unrelated products to boost ratings and mislead customers. Companies that break the rules could be banned from selling on the e-commerce giant's platform altogether, while users who post fake reviews could be banned from posting reviews. Amazon also committed to robust processes to quickly detect and remove fake reviews and catalogue abuse, the CMA said. The regulator, which estimates that 90% of consumers use online reviews to inform purchases, began investigating Amazon and Google in 2021 over possible breaches of consumer protection law. It secured similar commitments from Google in January. "These new commitments matter and help set the standard," CMA boss Sarah Cardell said in a statement. The watchdog is conducting an initial sweep of review platforms following the release of new reviews guidance in April, seeking to identify platforms that may need to do more to comply with consumer law. Under its newly-granted powers, the CMA can independently decide whether consumer law has been infringed and take action in case of breaches, including issuing fines and ordering businesses to improve their practices. © Thomson Reuters 2025 All rights reserved.

India hails trade deal in talks with visiting British FM

Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said on Saturday a trade deal with Britain was "truly a milestone" that will boost bilateral ties as he welcomed his counterpart David Lammy to New Delhi. India and Britain struck a long-delayed free trade agreement last month after negotiations were relaunched in February. Britain has sought to bolster trade ties across the world since it left the European Union under Brexit, a need that became more pressing after the United States unleashed a global tariff blitz that risks causing weaker economic growth. "The recent conclusion of the India-UK FTA... is truly a milestone which will not only propel our two-way trade and investment but will also have a positive effect on other strategic aspects of our bilateral ties," Jaishankar said after meeting Lammy, who is on a two-day visit. "It would also contribute to the strengthening of supply and value chains," he said. The accord will slash tariffs on imports of UK goods into India, including whisky, cosmetics and medical devices. In exchange, Britain will cut tariffs on imports of clothes, footwear and food products, including frozen prawns, from India. Britain and India are the sixth- and fifth-largest global economies respectively, with a trade relationship worth around 41 billion pounds ($54.8 billion) and investment supporting more than 600,000 jobs across both countries. They hope the free-trade agreement will increase trade between them by about 25.5 billion pounds, as well as boost the British economy and wages. Talks were relaunched in February after stalling under Britain's previous Conservative administrations. Lammy said before his visit the deal with India was "just the start of our ambitions".

Quebec and Canada find common ground: 'Who is best to stand up to Trump?'

In Montreal's Quartier des Spectacles, the Place des Arts has been transformed into a giant playground as summer approached, with games for children and adults alike. Passersby were invited to join in giant word searches, picking out letters that made up words like "solitude," "joie" (joy), "avalanche" and, notably, "résistance." The word "resistance" echoed across Canada ever since US President Donald Trump unilaterally announced his desire to make the country the "51 st state" of America, while simultaneously launching a trade war against his closest and most reliable ally. Canada shares nearly 9,000 kilometers of border with its neighbor, and its annual trade with the US totals one trillion Canadian dollars (€638 billion). But the word "resistance" rang particularly loudly in the ears of Québécois. For one of the first times in their history, they stand united with the rest of Canada, a country they belong to but have never truly identified with, and from which they nearly broke away in two (failed) referendums, in 1980 and 1995. Not even the two world wars had produced such unity: Quebec refused Ottawa's call for conscription to support Allied forces, arguing at the time that it was out of the question to send reinforcements to the British monarchy. Today, King Charles III remains Canada's head of state (as is the case for all Commonwealth countries, such as Australia). But in this context, Québécois have become less timid. 'Buy Canadian' On this sunny May day, expressions of support for the federal state – typically met with scorn – were flourishing. On Rue Sainte-Catherine, a souvenir shop displayed T-shirts and caps bearing the slogan "Canada is not for sale." At Fairmount, a renowned Montreal bagel shop, bagels were coated in a red paste with white sesame seeds, evoking Canada's national colors. Elsewhere, shop windows displayed signs proclaiming, "It's time to wake up, we're buying Canadian!"
