Bryson DeChambeau, last year's champion, returned the trophy earlier this week. Now, he and the rest of the field are locked in, hoping to claim it for themselves over the next year.
One of the biggest names in the field is Rory McIlroy. After a disappointing performance in Canada last week, the Northern Irishman is putting in the extra work at Oakmont. He was spotted early Tuesday morning dialing in his game ahead of Thursday's opening round.
Golf Digest shared an image of McIlroy as the first golfer on the course.
"First out on the course this morning."
This prompted a flood of fan reactions:
"Is the driver conforming???" mentioned this fan.

This golf enthusiast commented: Will he make the cut? Rory better find the fairways."
"He has plenty of energy after that MC," commented here.
"Hopefully he's finally got that new driver dialed in," mentioned by this fan.
"We've hit a fairway ladies and gentlemen. Only up from here," quipped this fan.
This golf fan was a little nicer: "Let's hope he's comfortable with whatever new driver he's playing. Also, nice to see sunlight. Fingers crossed it dries out a bit."

McIlroy, who won the 2025 Masters to complete the Career Grand Slam, hasn't won the U.S. Open since 2011. However, he's been consistent at the event recently, with six straight top-10 finishes after missing the cut from 2016 to 2018.

For Thursday and Friday, McIlroy will be paired with Masters runner-up Justin Rose and Shane Lowry. The trio is scheduled to tee off on the back nine at 7:40 a.m. EST.

Caitlin Clark's Appearance at NBA Finals Draws Indiana Fever Reaction
Caitlin Clark's Appearance at NBA Finals Draws Indiana Fever Reaction originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Game 3 of the NBA Finals is taking place on Wednesday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, and it is an opportunity for the Indiana Pacers to take control of this series after their stunning Game 1 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. Advertisement With a few days off before the WNBA's Indiana Fever host the defending champion New York Liberty, a few of their players decided to head to Gainbridge to enjoy the NBA championship series. Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston and Natasha Howard, who make up part of the Fever's impressive core, were seen sitting courtside for Game 3 on Wednesday, and the Fever noted their appearance with a post on X. Clark has been out for the past two weeks due to a strained quad. Although she sat out at Tuesday's loss to the Atlanta Dream, she has been ramping up her activity, and a return on Saturday seems possible. The Fever have also been without guard Sophie Cunningham, who has been out lately because of an ankle injury. They currently have a 4-5 record, while New York is at 9-0. Advertisement The Pacers overcame a 15-point deficit in the fourth quarter of Game 1 and claimed a victory when Tyrese Haliburton hit the game-winning shot with 0.3 seconds left. They then fell in Game 2, 123-107, but thanks to their improbable Game 1 win, they're still very much in this championship series. Spurs might be unable to land Greek Freak
Spurs might be unable to land Greek Freak originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The San Antonio Spurs have been linked to their fair share of offseason moves. With Dylan Harper their assumed draft pick, Naz Reid a potential free-agency signing, and Kevin Durant, Lauri Markkanen, and Giannis Antetokounmpo all trade candidates, the Spurs can bolster their roster in a big way this summer. Advertisement Of course, Antetokounmpo is the most talented player expected to be on the move this offseason. After the Milwaukee Bucks lost in the first round of the postseason for the third season in a row, the Greek Freak could demand a trade. Unless he specifically asks out, the Bucks are not expected to entertain trade offers. If he does ask for a trade, however, Milwaukee is expected to land a historically large haul of talent and draft capital, kickstarting a rebuild. The Spurs certainly have the means to land him, although it will be costly and arguably not worth it in the long run. A recent report from a league insider suggests that Antetokounmpo has not yet asked out, and the Bucks are not eager to field calls. Advertisement "Right now, there is no Giannis Antetokounmpo trade market," declared Brian Windhorst. "There is no Giannis Antetokounmpo trade discussions. He has not asked for it. The Bucks are not looking to trade him." Giannis has been linked to the Spurs, New York Knicks, Houston Rockets, and Toronto Raptors, although all of those teams might need to pivot to a different target, with Durant emerging as the best player. De'Aaron Fox offers injury update
De'Aaron Fox offers injury update originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Last season, before the trade deadline, the San Antonio Spurs added All-Star point guard De'Aaron Fox from the Sacramento Kings, hoping that he would be the long-term running mate for Victor Wembanyama. Advertisement The pair played only five games together, going 2-3, before Wembanyama had his season ended early with a deep vein thrombosis diagnosis in his shoulder. A few weeks later, Fox had his season ended as well, undergoing surgery on his pinkie finger. In 17 games with the Spurs, Fox averaged 19.7 points and 6.8 assists, clearly needing to get used to his new team. He expects to use the offseason to settle into his role with his new teammates and is already playing five-on-five and has been cleared for contact. 'I'm doing well. The surgery went fine,' Fox told The Houston Chronicle. 'I've been cleared, so I played a little five-on-five, and I've done contact stuff, so I'll be ready for next year.' The Spurs gave up Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Sidy Cissoko, and four first-round draft picks to the Kings and Chicago Bulls in a three-team deal to land Fox, although several of those picks had protections on them, and one of them ended up not conveying to the Kings. Advertisement Before the trade, Fox asked the Kings to get a deal done and listed the Spurs as the only acceptable landing spot. With Wembanyama in town, San Antonio has become a premier destination, and Fox got in on the ground floor, expecting the team to find massive success in the next few years.
