IIT Delhi, AIIMS join hands for AI centre

AIIMS
have joined hands to establish a Centre of Excellence for AI in healthcare, which will focus on developing AI-based solutions for supporting key national health programmes in the country.
The institutes signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish the centre. Last year, the two institutes were awarded a grant of Rs 330 crore by the Ministry of Education under the initiative 'Make AI in India, Make AI Work for India'.
M Srinivas, Director, AIIMS Delhi, expressed his confidence in the initiative. "This MoU marks the beginning of far-reaching collaborative research that has the potential to change the face of healthcare in the country," he said.
Echoing the enthusiasm, IIT Delhi Director Rangan Banerjee highlighted the potential of the partnership in advancing affordable healthcare solutions. "A partnership between AIIMS and IIT Delhi has the potential to transform AI for affordable healthcare.
We hope that our output will impact the lives of Indians," he said.
Leading the project from AIIMS Delhi, Dr Krithika Rangarajan emphasized the patient-centric nature of the initiative. She reiterated that the centre's work will be deeply rooted in improving healthcare access and outcomes for all citizens. "We remain focused on keeping patients at the centre of this effort and hope to build mechanisms that would benefit every citizen of the country," she noted.

‘Dipika Kakar underwent a 14-hour-long surgery, family started to panic,' husband Shoaib Ibrahim shares health update: ‘She's out of the ICU now'
After being diagnosed with stage 2 liver cancer, actress Dipika Kakar underwent a 14-hour-long surgery to remove the tumour. Her husband and television actor Shoaib Ibrahim took to his YouTube channel to share her health update with her fans and followers on Friday night. In the seven-minute video, Shoaib shared Dipika is out of the ICU and is recovering in the hospital. Sharing details about Dipika's surgery, Shoaib said that the doctors removed a small portion of Dipika's liver because of the tumour. She also underwent a gall bladder surgery. 'Nothing to worry, as liver is an organ that can regenerate itself', he shared in the video. He also shared that after the surgery, Dipika had to stay in the ICU for three days. 'Dipika will stay in the hospital for another three to five days, as advised by doctors. The surgery was major, she was in OT for 14 hours. It was a difficult time,' he said. As the surgery went on for fourteen hours, it created panic among her family members. Shoaib shared, 'I was with Dipika till 8:30 am before her surgery started. At 11:30 pm, she was shifted to the ICU. Though the doctors informed me that the surgery would take time, post 6-7 pm, my family members and I started to panic. We had never experienced a long surgery such as this. It was normal to be a little scared.' In his video, Shoaib also said that Dipika was on liquid diet for three days after her surgery. 'Now, she is back to eating normal food. She has been showing great signs of recovery as she has started walking and her blood reports are also normal.' The actor also thanked his fans for praying for Dipika and staying with them during their tough times. Speaking about their son Ruhaan, Shoaib said, he managed to stay away from his mother for three nights. However, he was brought to hospital to see his mother when he started to miss her post her surgery. On May 27, Dipika had taken to her official Instagram handle to share her diagnosis. Dipika shared a note that read, 'As you all are aware last few weeks have been quite difficult for us… walking into the hospital for a pain in the upper area of my stomach… and then finding out its a tennis ball size tumour in the liver and then finding out that the tumour is second stage malignant (cancerous)… it has been one of the most difficult time we have seen, experienced!' She added, 'I am all positive and determined to face this and walk out stronger Inshallah! With my entire family being by my side… and all the love and prayers pouring from all of you I will sail through this too!' Dipika, who was previously married to Raunak Mehta, tied the knot with her Sasrual Simar Ka co-star Shoaib Ibrahim in 2018. In 2023, they welcomed their baby boy, Ruhaan.

Mukesh Ambani Donates Rs 151 Crore To Alma Mater ICT Mumbai As 'Guru Dakshina'
Last Updated: Hailing professor MM Sharma, Ambani reminisced about how the first lecture he attended at UDCT by the former had motivated him Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani on Saturday announced an unconditional grant of Rs 151 crore to his alma mater—Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai—from where he graduated in the 1970s. Ambani spent over three hours at ICT—which was back then called the University Department of Chemical Technology (UDCT)—at a function to publish professor MM Sharma's biography titled 'Divine Scientist'. Ambani, reminiscing about how the first lecture he attended at UDCT by Sharma motivated him, said Sharma later played the role of the quiet architect of India's economic reforms, impressing upon policymakers that the only way for India to grow was to unshackle Indian industry from license-permit-raj which will allow Indian players to build scale, reduce dependence on imports and compete globally. 'Like my father Dhirubhai Ambani, he had a burning desire to change Indian industry from scarcity to global leadership," said the RIL chairman, adding: 'These two bold visionaries believed that science and technology, in alliance with private entrepreneurship, would open the floodgates of prosperity." Crediting the rise of Indian chemical industry to Sharma's efforts, Ambani, in his speech, referred to him as 'a Rashtra Guru ─ a Guru of Bharat'. He then announced the unconditional grant of Rs 151 crore to ICT, according to the instructions of Sharma, terming it 'Guru Dakshina'. 'When he tells us something, we just listen. We don't think. He told me 'Mukesh you have to do something big for ICT, and I am very pleased to announce that for professor Sharma," Ambani said while referring to the grant. Sharma, who joined UDCT as a professor at 27, has dedicated over six decades to teaching and research. His former students, many of whom went on to become pioneers in Indian science, recalled his influence and humility. The event was held at ICT's Pidilite Hall and presided over by senior nuclear scientist Anil Kakodkar. Several eminent scientists, including Raghunath Mashelkar, J B Joshi, Aniruddha Pandit, and G D Yadav, paid tribute to Prof Sharma's legacy in education and science. For those willing to spend a little more, the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston is a reputable choice. Founded in 1824, it is the state's only major medical teaching institution and charges approximately Rs 24 lakh for a medical degree. Located in Greenville, North Carolina, the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University also offers medical education at about Rs 24 lakh per year. It welcomes both domestic and international students. Another prominent option is the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (McGovern Medical School). Regarded as one of Texas' top medical institutions, it offers a medical degree for roughly Rs 24 lakh annually. These universities present promising opportunities for Indian and other international students who are keen to pursue medicine in the US without incurring prohibitively high expenses. With fees significantly lower than many private institutions, they combine affordability with academic excellence.
