Eubank accuses Benn and team of derailing weight cut
London, Apr 26 (UNI) Chris Eubank Jr has accused Conor Benn and his team of "derailing" his weight cut, which led to him being fined £375,000.
Eubank, 35, was over the middleweight limit on Friday morning by 0.05lb.
The Englishman is the favourite against the smaller Benn as a regular middleweight, but says he underwent a difficult weight cut.
"It stings that I was 0.05lbs away from the limit and now I'll have to pay half a million to someone. These are the people you are dealing with. They closed the scales off early," said Eubank.
"I asked to go and urinate but they said no. These are tactics people use to try and get under your skin, to try and derail you from the task at hand, which is to go out there and win.
"They had an agenda - they wanted that money," he added.
The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) set the rules for the weight cut and oversaw the official weigh-in on Friday morning, which was also attended by representatives from Matchroom, Eubank's promoters Boxxer and Benn's trainer Tony Simms.
"He was expecting some sympathy, but he isn't getting any sympathy from around here," said Benn.
Eubank will have to weigh in one final time at about 08:00 BST on Saturday in line with the rehydration clause.
Neither Benn nor Eubank are allowed to put on more then 10lbs from the 11st 6lb limit.
Benn, 28, weighed 11st 2lb and is not expected to have any issues with the rehydration limit.
For Eubank, he says he is still unsure how he will approach the next 24 hours. He will be fined again if he misses weight.
"This is the peculiar situation that I find myself in," said Eubank.
"I have to watch what I eat and drink, or I can eat and drink whatever I want but then I have to get in the sauna tomorrow morning and sweat off 4lb - I still don't know which one I'm going to do."
Benn is coming up two weight classes to fight Eubank and the fine will go directly to the unbeaten welterweight.
The pair will fight three decades after their fathers' rivalry in the 1990s and two and a half years since Benn's failed drug tests led to the cancellation of their 2022 bout.
Benn has always denied intentionally doping and had his suspension lifted in November 2024.
Despite Friday's hefty fine and mental drain for Eubank, he said the only victory to celebrate will be when his "arm is raised".
"If they want to look at this as their victory then that's great for them," he added.
"All that matters for me is who performs on the night, who puts in on the line and who represents
their family name to the best of their ability."

Australia reveal playing XI for World Test Championship Final
London, June 10 (UNI) Australia captain Pat Cummins on Tuesday revealed his side's playing XI for the ICC World Test Championship at Lord's. Cummins spoke to the media here and announced the XI the reigning World Test Championship winners will use is exactly the one as predicted by Australian great Ricky Ponting on The ICC Review last month. Former No.1 ranked Test batter Marnus Labuschagne will push up the order to open alongside Usman Khawaja, while Josh Hazlewood won the race against Scott Boland to partner left-armer Mitchell Starc and Cummins in the pace attack. All-rounder Cameron Green will play his first Test since back surgery, while Beau Webster retains his spot in the XI and will provide the bowlers some support with his medium pace and spin options. Cummins explained his reasons why selectors opted for Labuschagne at the top of the order and decided to leave teenager Sam Konstas out of the XI, an ICC report said. "With Marnus moving, we thought it's one spot up really. It's not too different to batting three," Cummins said. "Marnus has experience, he has done well here at Lord's and in England in general," he said. "Opening the batting can be tough, but it can also be sometimes the best time to bat, before the Dukes ball actually starts swinging," Cummins said. "There's an opportunity to score there, so just keeping that ball in tow I think is going to mean something," he said. Cummins said Konstas was disappointed to miss out, but believes the 19-year-old has a strong future ahead with the side. "Realistically, he's really young, he's got a long career ahead of him," Cummins said. "So hopefully, even by not playing, we can show him their learning opportunities," he said. Cummins also spoke in depth surrounding the decision to leave Boland out of the XI and opt for Hazlewood. "There are some guys where you generally say you've done nothing wrong, don't change a thing, and that's Scott and he's just really unfortunate to miss out," the skipper said. "The message to Scott is there's a lot of Test matches coming up in the next couple of years, and just because you're in your mid-30s doesn't mean you're missing this Test and that's the last Test of your career," he said. "I think by having a squad of fast bowlers, hopefully we can extend a lot of careers for an extra couple of years," Cummins added. Australia XI: 1. Usman Khawaja, 2. Marnus Labuschagne, 3. Cameron Green, 4. Steve Smith, 5. Travis Head, 6. Beau Webster, 7. Alex Carey (wk), 8. Pat Cummins (c), 9. Mitchell Starc, 10. Nathan Lyon, 11. Josh Hazlewood. UNI BM

India suffered narrow defeat to Hong Kong in Asian Cup Qualifiers
Kowloon (Hong Kong), June 10 (UNI) The Indian national football team fell to a 1-0 defeat against Hong Kong in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers at Kai Tak Stadium here on Tuesday. A stoppage-time penalty from Stefan Pereira secured all three points for the hosts. India's head coach Manolo Marquez made three changes to the starting lineup from the previous friendly against Thailand. Suresh Singh Wangjam came in for Ayush Dev Chhetri in central midfield, while Brandon Fernandes and Lallianzuala Chhangte replaced Sunil Chhetri and Manvir Singh, respectively. Ashique Kuruniyan was deployed up front. With both teams having dropped points in their opening fixtures, they approached the game with urgency and attacking intent. The early stages saw end-to-end action, but neither side could carve out a clear-cut chance. In the 25th minute, Hong Kong's Raphael Lee tested Vishal Kaith with a long-range effort, but the Indian goalkeeper stood firm. Liston Colaco responded with a strike from distance at the other end, which the opposition keeper comfortably collected. Anwar Ali made a crucial intervention around the half-hour mark, timing his tackle perfectly at the edge of the box to deny a dangerous Hong Kong move. Had he missed, it could have spelled trouble for the Blue Tigers — and him. India's best chance of the half came in the 35th minute when Brandon Fernandes won possession near the halfway line. He released Liston Colaco, who threaded a sharp through-ball to Ashique. However, the forward couldn't keep his shot on target from close range. Hong Kong came close just before the break when Juninho attempted a quick free-kick to catch India off guard, but the Indian defence reacted well to avert the threat. The teams headed into half-time with the score still goalless. Five minutes into the second half, Ashique had another opportunity, but his half-turn shot went wide. In the 57th minute, Ashique, who appeared to be in some discomfort, was replaced by Sunil Chhetri, while Naorem Mahesh Singh came on for Brandon Fernandes. A few minutes later, Wangjam lost the ball in a dangerous area, allowing Manuel Rodriguez a chance on goal, but his effort was tipped over the bar by Kaith for a corner. In the 80th minute, Mahesh and Chhetri combined well, with the latter playing a through ball to Liston Colaco, who fired his effort wide. Moments later, Lallianzuala Chhangte made a driving run and set up Chhetri, whose attempt was blocked for a corner by Leon Jones. The decisive moment came in the first minute of added time when Kaith conceded a penalty. Pereira stepped up, and his shot clipped the inside of the post before rolling into the net — his strike ultimately sealing the win for Hong Kong. This result left the Blue Tigers with one point from two matches, while Hong Kong climbed to four. UNI BM BD

She now sits in the fourth spot with 689 Rating Points to her name. Laura Wolvaardt, Smriti Mandhana, and Nat Sciver-Brunt continue to occupy the top three spots. Courtesy of Jones' brilliance, England had an unbeaten run in the ODI series that followed the T20Is against West Indies, which they had won 3-0 as well, an ICC report said.
