New Texas five-star DL commit Richard Wesley goes in-depth about his decision
It's been a wild month for five-star defensive lineman Richard Wesley. First, he committed to Oregon and famously jumped in a pool with Ducks coach Dan Lanning. But soon after, the Los Angeles native backed out of the commitment and there was a lot of speculation Texas was leading. Over the weekend, Wesley did indeed commit to Texas.
Sunday, Wesley told Jason Suchomel of OrangeBloods.com, "My recruitment is 100 percent, 1,000 percent shut down. I'm going here in January."
Wesley flew straight from Austin to Indianapolis where he's taking part in the elite Rivals Five-Star Challenge, a camp for 100 of the best players in the country at Lucas Oil Field.
The 6-foot-4, 250 pound EDGE talked to Rivals National recruiting director Adam Gorney about his decision. Gorney asked Wesley what convinced him Texas was the right spot.
"I knew Texas was a great school. Not only for football, but academically. They have great degrees. Great business school. Great every school. I felt like the decision was the best of both worlds. I get to play in the SEC but I also get to walk out with a great degree. God forbid, football's not forever. So if I do get hurt, in the long run I still walk out with something good. It was all the coaches combined. But what really convinced me was from the academic standpoint." -- Richard Wesley
While academics are obviously important to the California prospect, the blue chipper tells Gorney his main goal is to win a national title at Texas.
"My goal is to win the natty. You know, I want to win a state championship this high school season. I want to win one my college season. It's great knowing my team is going to be very elite when I get there and I'm going to continue the legacy." -- Richard Wesley
Wesley becomes one of the highest ranked prospects that has ever committed to the Longhorns. He ranks just behind Vince Young, Arch Manning, Jonathan Gray and Sergio Kindle.
Since Wesley has already committed to two schools during his recruitment, Gorney asked him if this was his final decision.
"I'm staying here. I'm staying at Texas. Hook'em! I feel like that's the spot that I want to be at." -- Richard Wesley
Wesley says he's glad the recruiting process is now over and he can get down to work for the upcoming high school season and beyond.
"I'm glad that everything has settled down. I can finally work this upcoming offseason for the high school season. I'm trying to come up there and really do something. I'm glad everything is cooled down. I'm glad everything is calm now and I can really get to work now." -- Richard Wesley

Flyers set to acquire Trevor Zegras in trade with Ducks
The post Flyers set to acquire Trevor Zegras in trade with Ducks appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Philadelphia Flyers missed out on the playoffs by a wide margin this season, but they are now making big moves to ensure that doesn't happen again in 2025-26. On Monday, the Flyers made a huge move to acquire star forward Trevor Zegras from the Anaheim Ducks in a blockbuster trade, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet. Advertisement In return, the Ducks will get center Ryan Poehling and a pair of draft picks, including the 45th overall pick in this summer's draft. Zegras is an extremely talented offensive player when he is healthy and will immediately give the Flyers some punch on that end of the ice. Injuries have cut each of his last two seasons short, but he recorded 186 points in 268 career games in Anaheim. A change of scenery could do some good for Zegras, who has not been on a competitive team during his career. He has never played in a playoff game, and while the Flyers were also far away from postseason status a year ago, moves like this one show that they are committed to building a winner and a contender in the near future. Zegras helps the outlook of the Flyers in the present, but he also should be around for the future as well. The former top 10 pick is just 24 years old, so he still has plenty of time to improve and is not yet in the prime of his career. Advertisement The next step after this move is getting Zegras locked up in Philadelphia with a new contract extension for a long time. He is under contract next season on a $5.75 million bargain, but is slated to be a restricted free agent next summer. After making such a big swing to get him in the building, getting a new deal done with Zegras will certainly be priority No. 1 for the Flyers. If they can get that done, this has a chance to be a home run deal for Philadelphia. Zegras comes with his injury concerns, but he has a chance to develop into an elite offensive player that can anchor this Flyers squad into the future. 2026 4-star Edge shuts down his recruitment, explains why he committed to Texas A&M
Texas A&M coach Mike Elko has built an incredible foundation heading into this second season at the helm, as he has continued to prove that he is as good, or even a better recruiter compared to former head coach Jimbo Fisher this offseason after landing five elite commitments over the past week in the 2026 recruiting class. Leading into this week, nearly half a dozen of the program's 19 commits have shut down their recruitment, including five-star edge Tristian Givens, who committed to the Aggies on Saturday. This trend started with four-star running back Jonathan Hatton, followed by four-star wide receiver Aaron Gregory, and four-star tight end Caleb Tafua quickly following his lead. Since then, one of the program's earliest commits, four-star edge Jordan Carter, also shut down his future visits. On Monday, fellow four-star edge/linebacker Samu Moala became the next important defender in the cycle to shut things down, as he will sign with the Aggies as soon as the Early Signing period on December 4. Moala has been the subject of several potential rumors over the last couple of weeks, as UCLA and Washington have attempted to flip the versatile prospect. During his recent interview with Rivals recruiting insider Adam Gorney at the Rivals Five-Star event in Indianapolis, Moala explained why he chose to shut down his recruitment and stick with Texas A&M: "Very hard decision, but I committed there because I want to play with the best and play against the best in the SEC" Moala stated. "It felt like home; I went there (College Station) this past weekend, and they made it feel like home, they answered all my questions that needed to be answered, and I'm fully committed." Moala also revealed that staying at edge with the Aggies was a big part of his decision, as UCLA wanted him to play linebacker at the next level. After praising Texas A&M's culture during his official visit, Moala also stated that he is expected to play the Jack position on defense, with an emphasis on rushing the passer and dropping back in coverage to blanket tight ends.
