Policeman shot dead by TTP-affiliated terrorists in northwest Pakistan

A Pakistani policeman was shot dead by affiliates of the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) group in the restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, police said on Monday.
The TTP terrorists gunned down the policeman in the Lakki Marwat district of the province.
As the militants tried to flee, local residents and police pursued them, killing one in an exchange of fire, police said.
The TTP, also known as the Pakistan Taliban, was set up as an umbrella group of several militant outfits in 2007. Its main aim is to impose its strict brand of Islam across Pakistan.
The group, believed to be close to al-Qaeda and the Afghan Taliban, has been blamed for several deadly attacks across Pakistan, including an attack on army headquarters in 2009, assaults on military bases, and the 2008 bombing of the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad.

Punjab Police bust narco-hawala cartel linked to Dubai and Pakistan; recover 4.5 kg heroin and Rs 8.7 lakh cash

Amritsar (Punjab) [India], June 10 (ANI): In a significant breakthrough, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled a well-organised narco-hawala cartel allegedly led by Arshdeep, who is currently incarcerated in Goindwal Jail, officials said on Tuesday. According to officials, acting on precise intelligence, police teams arrested six operatives and recovered 4.526 kg of heroin and Rs 8.7 lakh in drug money. Preliminary investigations reveal that Arshdeep, in collusion with associates Jaspreet and Karan, orchestrated the drug trade and hawala transactions. Karan, along with Gurmeet and Rajinderpal, managed the retrieval and distribution of cross-border drug consignments across various districts in Punjab. 'The proceeds from the narcotics trade were laundered through hawala channels by Jaspreet, funnelled to Dubai, UAE, and subsequently to Pakistan. A mobile phone used by Arshdeep inside the jail was seized, providing critical evidence of their cross-border operations,' the police said in a release. One of the arrested operatives, who spent a year in Dubai forging connections with Pakistani smugglers, leveraged his village's proximity to the international border to facilitate smuggling directly to his residence after returning to India two months ago, they said. Earlier on Sunday, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of Punjab, in a joint operation with Muktsar Police, arrested three wanted fugitive criminals after AGTF arrested an associate of a gangster in the state. Forces recovered weapons and drugs from the possession of the fugitives. The accused have been identified as Gaurav Kumar (also known as Billa), Vikasdeep Singh, and Lovepreet Singh. All three were wanted in multiple criminal cases, including serious offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act. 'Accused Gaurav was a fugitive in a case registered at Malout police station, while the other two were wanted in a case registered at Sri Muktsar Sahib police station,' Punjab Director General of Police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav, shared the information in an X post on Sunday. The police also recovered 174 gm heroin, two pistols (.32 bore), and 10 live cartridges. Preliminary investigation revealed that the trio was planning 'to eliminate a rival.' In a separate incident which occurred earlier on Sunday, the Anti-Gangster Task Force of Punjab apprehended Nilson Massih alias Sunny, an associate of Gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, said Director General of Punjab Police Gaurav Yadav. Narco-hawala cartel busted with arrest of 6 operatives: Punjab Police

Chandigarh, A narco-hawala cartel, operated by Arshdeep Singh, currently incarcerated at Goindwal Jail, was dismantled with the arrest of six of its operatives, the Punjab Police said on Tuesday. The police also recovered 4.526 kg of heroin and ₹8.7 lakh cash from their possession, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said. The arrested were identified as Karandeep Singh alias Karan , from Algon Khurd in Tarn Taran, Jaspreet Singh , from Salodi in Ludhiana, Arshdeep Singh alias Ars , from Mehndipur in Tarn Taran, Gurmeet Singh alias Geetu , from Sukhera Bodla in Fazilka, Rajinderpal Singh alias Nikka , from Kolowal in Amritsar and Malkeet Singh , from Hawelian in Tarn Taran. Preliminary investigation revealed that Arshdeep, in connivance with his associates Jaspreet and Karan, orchestrated the drug trade and hawala transactions. Karan, along with Gurmeet and Rajinderpal, retrieved cross-border consignments and distributed them across various districts of Punjab, the DGP said, adding that the proceeds from the narcotics trade were laundered via hawala channels by Jaspreet, which were routed to Dubai, UAE and subsequently to Pakistan. The mobile phone used by Arshdeep within the jail was recovered, providing crucial evidence of their cross-border operations, the officer informed. Further investigations are ongoing to establish both backward and forward linkages in this case. Arshdeep, incarcerated in a drug case, maintained contact with cross-border smugglers, Amritsar Commissioner of Police Amritsar, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said. He also shared that Malkeet, who was arrested separately, is a notorious smuggler who spent a year in Dubai, where he established links with Pakistani smugglers. Given his village's proximity to the international border, Malkeet facilitated the smuggling of consignments directly to his residence upon his return to India two months ago, Bhullar added.

Pak Man Stabs Wife To Death In Flat Near Mumbai Before Killing Self

Navi Mumbai: A 45-year-old Pakistani national allegedly fatally stabbed his 35-year-old wife, also a Pakistani, using a kitchen knife in their rented flat in Kharghar node of Navi Mumbai before killing himself over a domestic dispute, police said on Tuesday. The Pakistani couple, identified as Notandas alias Sanjay Sachdev and his wife Sapna Notandas, were on long-term visas to India, a police officer said. Deputy Commissioner of Police Prashant Mohite said the couple was found lying in pools of blood in their rented flat on Monday. "The sister of the woman visited the flat on Monday as Sapna Notandas was not responding to her calls, leading to the discovery of the crime," said Mohite. He said doctors declared Sapna Notandas dead at the scene, while her husband succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The preliminary investigation suggests that Notandas attacked his wife with a sharp kitchen knife following a fight, stabbing her multiple times on the neck, back, and shoulder, leading to her death. "Subsequently, Notandas used the same weapon to stab himself in the neck, which resulted in his own death," the police officer said. He said Sapna Notandas and her husband were originally Pakistani citizens. "Our records show they arrived in India in November 2024 on a long-term visit visa. The couple had been residing in the flat with their two children for the past six months. We are currently conducting a thorough verification of their visas and other identity documents as part of the ongoing investigation," Mohite added. Police have registered a case under section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). In the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, the Central government issued 'leave India' notices to Pakistani nationals holding short-term visas covering 12 categories. The External Affairs Ministry had stated that the decision to suspend visas of Pakistani nationals wouldn't affect the validity of the Long Stay Visas (LTVs) issued to Hindu Pakistani nationals earlier. Mohite said a major concern for the police administration is the welfare and future of the two young children left behind by the couple. "We are trying to find out who will take care of them."
