5 Indians arrested for abducting Bangladeshis for ransom in Nepal: Police

Kathmandu, May 28 (PTI) Nepal Police have busted a kidnapping racket and arrested five Indian nationals on Wednesday for allegedly holding Bangladeshi tourists hostage for ransom in the Himalayan nation.
The Bangladeshi nationals were held hostage in a rented house in Lalitpur Metropolitan City, within the Kathmandu Valley, and were subjected to both mental and physical torture, police said.
The criminals seized USD 2,000-3,500 from each person and their mobile phones, and forced them to request millions of dollars in ransom via WhatsApp. The Bangladeshi nationals were reportedly beaten and threatened with death.
The police, acting upon a tip-off, arrested the Indian nationals from different parts of Kathmandu. The Kathmandu District Court has granted a six-day judicial remand for further investigation. PTI SBP GRS GRS GRS

Panchkula: A gut-wrenching murder of a stray dog shook the elite residential area of Sector 20 Panchkula on Sunday morning. Sheru, a community dog from the vegetable mandi, was found dead with grave injures and all four limbs tied in the early morning by resident Preeti Pahwa, who used to feed Sheru. Delhi Police deports 134 illegal Bangladeshi nationals through multiple drives
New Delhi [India], June 11 (ANI): The South District Police of Delhi have deported a total of 134 Bangladeshi nationals, including 38 women and 43 children, following 14 intensive enforcement drives conducted between December 27, 2024, and June 10, 2025, according to a release on Wednesday. According to the release, the operation, aimed at addressing growing concerns over unauthorised foreign nationals, involved multiple teams targeting slums and suspected areas to verify voter IDs and Aadhaar cards for identifying illegal immigrants. Responding to escalating concerns about the unauthorised stay of Bangladeshi migrants, the South District Police launched a sustained campaign, leveraging local intelligence networks, sensitised informants, and developed human intelligence to trace and apprehend those residing illegally. Efforts also focused on mapping and monitoring entry routes commonly exploited by undocumented immigrants entering India. Special Operation Units and Police Stations worked in close coordination, gathering actionable intelligence that led to swift detentions of individuals overstaying visas or lacking valid travel documents. The successful drives included several key arrests under specific cases. Five Bangladeshi nationals were arrested at PS Sangam Vihar under Sections 318(2)/319(2)/337/61(1)(A) of BNS and 34 Aadhar Act. Two Bangladeshi nationals were arrested at PS Fatehpur Beri under Sections 318(2)/139(2)/61(1)(A) of BNS, the 14 Foreigner Act and the 34 Aadhar Act. Eight Bangladeshi nationals were arrested at PS Lodhi Colony under Sections 318(2)/319(2)/337 of the BNS, the 14 Foreigners Act, and the 34 Aadhar Act and one Bangladeshi national at PS Maidan Garhi under Section 25/54/59 of the Arms Act. The police have appealed to the general public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals suspected of illegal stay in their vicinity, with a statement assuring that information provided to local police will be treated confidentially and may prevent unlawful activities. Residents' Welfare Associations (RWAs) and Market Welfare Associations (MWAs) have been urged to support law enforcement by spreading awareness and cooperating in verification drives to maintain safe and law-abiding neighbourhoods. Project Pelican: Canada busts drug racket financing anti-India activities
NEW DELHI: Project Pelican, a major investigation conducted by Peel Regional Police, has busted a big narco-terror network based out of Canada and individuals suspected to be Khalistan sympathisers. While the operation led to the largest ever drug seizure there with 479 kg of cocaine valued at $47.9 million, nine individuals including seven Indian-origin men settled in Canada have been arrested. The investigation has revealed that the network exploited commercial trucking routes from the US to Canada, with ties to Mexican cartels and US-based distributors, the Peel police said. The proceeds from drug trafficking were being used to finance anti-India activities, including protests and referendums besides funding for weapons, sources said. Intelligence sources pointed towards an ISI-backed plan where Khalistani groups in Canada are being funded to traffick high value Mexican cocaine. The ISI has also been been found pushing Afghan-grown heroin. The arrested men include Sajgith Yogendrarajah, 31, of Toronto; Manpreet Singh, 44, of Brampton; Philip Tep, 39, of Hamilton; Arvinder Powar, 29, of Brampton; Karamjit Singh, 36, of Caledon; Gurtej Singh, 36, of Caledon; Sartaj Singh, 27, of Cambridge; Shiv Onkar Singh, 31, of Georgetown and Hao Tommy Huynh, a 27-year-old from Mississauga. They face a total of 35 charges related to firearm and drug offences, the Canadian police said. Last Dec, two Canadian nationals of Indian origin were arrested when US Illinois State Police found over 1,000 pounds of cocaine in their Volvo truck: something which alerted the investigators to the smuggling ring involving ISI which patronised illegal poppy cultivation in Afghanistan to help Taliban fight the US and Afghan troops. The current investigation began in June 2024, focusing on a cocaine smuggling operation using US-Canada commercial trucking routes. By Nov, multiple individuals, trucking companies, and storage sites linked to the operation were identified with the help of Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the US Drug Enforcement Administration. Significant seizures were made between Feb and May 2025, including 127 kg of cocaine at the Ambassador Bridge in Windsor and 50 kg at the Blue Water Bridge in Point Edward, the Peel police said in a statement. Additional seizures were made across the Greater Toronto area, with some individuals arrested in possession of loaded firearms. "A total of 479 kg of bricked cocaine, worth an estimated $47.9 million, was seized, along with two illegal loaded semi-automatic handguns. The accused were held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton," the Peel police said. Michael S Kerzner, solicitor general of Ontario, praised the operation, stating, "Project Pelican is proof of what police can accomplish when they have the tools and resources needed to keep our communities safe."
