BBC News12 hours ago

A man has been found guilty of killing his brother, after stabbing him nine times.Boan D'Arc, 60, assaulted Jamieson McLelland, 56, at the victim's home in the village of Thornhill, Stirling, on 6 January 2024, by repeatedly stabbing him on the body.D'Arc, also known as Thomas McLelland, was accused of murdering his sibling but denied the crime, claiming he acted in self defence after his brother attacked him.A jury at the High Court in Edinburgh rejected his self defence plea but convicted him of the lesser charge of culpable homicide after agreeing he had acted under provocation.
Mr McLelland, who had three grandchildren at the time of the fatal attack, was taken to hospital after the knife attack and underwent surgery to repair injuries to his bowels. He had underlying health conditions and complications set in. He died at Forth Valley Royal Hospital, in Larbert, Stirlingshire, on 23 January last year.
'Feared for his life'
Advocate depute Eilidh Robertson told the court that the evidence demonstrated that D'Arc carried out a sustained assault on his brother. She said: "He stabbed him not once, not twice, but at least nine times."The court heard there were injuries on the deceased that suggested he used his hands and arms to try and protect himself. The prosecutor told jurors that the victim had used a drill in a bid to defend himself and that the account by D'Arc was "self-serving".D'Arc, a prisoner at Low Moss jail, told police he was attacked by his brother armed with a drill and defended himself. One officer told the court: "He said he had been in a fight with his brother Jamie, that he had been attacked by his brother who hit him in the face with a drill."He stated that in self defence he stabbed his brother with a knife because he feared for his life."
Severe facial injury
PC Connor Zahariev said D'Arc appeared to have a severe facial injury.Defence counsel Gareth Jones KC said Mr McLelland was a man "who stood 6ft 1in", weighed "the best part of 30 stones" and was in possession of a power tool and used it.He said: "He (D'Arc) said he used the knife to stab his brother in self defence to save his own life. He stopped when his brother let him go."The court heard that Mr McLelland had returned to live in Scotland prior to his death after moving from the north of England. The trial judge, Lord Renucci, deferred sentence on D'Arc for the preparation of a background report. He is due to be sentenced at the High Court in Stirling on 25 July.

Teen indicted in fatal stabbing of another student at a high school track meet in Texas

A teen accused of fatally stabbing another student at a high school track meet in suburban Dallas was indicted Tuesday on a murder charge, a prosecutor said. A grand jury indicted Karmelo Anthony in the death of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis said. Willis said the April 2 stabbing at the school stadium in Frisco 'struck a deep nerve — here in Collin County and beyond.' Anthony was 17 at the time of the stabbing and has since turned 18. 'When something like this happens at a school event, it shakes people to the core,' Willis said. Students from several high schools in the Frisco Independent School District were competing when the stabbing occurred. According to an arrest report, a witness said that when Anthony sat under the tent belonging to Metcalf's team, Metcalf told Anthony to move, and Anthony replied: 'Touch me and see what happens." Metcalf then touched Anthony, and Anthony said to punch him and see what happens, the arrest report said. A short time later, Metcalf grabbed Anthony and Anthony stabbed him with a knife, the report said. Afterward, Anthony told an officer that he was protecting himself and that Metcalf had 'put his hands on me,' according to the report. Anthony's attorney, Mike Howard, said Anthony was looking forward to his day in court. 'We expect that when the full story is heard, the prosecution will not be able to rule out the reasonable doubt that Karmelo Anthony may have acted in self-defense,' Howard said. If convicted, Anthony faces up to life in prison. He was released from jail and placed on house arrest after his bond was reduced.

Vile Scots dentist snared by paedo hunters caught enjoying luxury Costa getaway before sentencing

A DENTIST who bombarded a girl of 13 with sexual messages is enjoying golfing holidays to Spain while awaiting sentencing, we can reveal. Steven MacMillan, 53, was tracked down by paedophile hunters after he had sexual conversations with the child on social media. 5 5 5 5 The beast admitted his sickening crimes, which included him urging the teenager to perform a sex act, despite the youngster revealing her age beforehand. MacMillan appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court earlier this month, where he pleaded guilty to communicating indecently with the girl between February and March 2023. But there were no bail restrictions placed on him travelling, which means the paedophile dentist has been brazenly jetting out to the sunny Costa Blanca where he has been golfing, relaxing and socialising, despite being on the sex offenders register. A source told The Scottish Sun: 'Locals are up in arms at the fact that he's been so brazen in coming over and cockily carrying on as though nothing has happened. 'He's been the talk of the community ever since the initial sting. We can't believe he's been allowed to come out here and mix freely with kids in bars and swimming pools. 'While others' lives have been shattered thanks to his depraved actions, MacMillan appears to be brazenly sticking two fingers up to the Scottish legal system. 'It's winding people up the way he's swanning round without a care in the world. It really is disgraceful.' It is understood he has been banned from visiting the communal pool in the laid-back expat community where his mum and dad stay. But last week, shameless MacMillan, of Dalkeith, Midlothian, was spotted enjoying a round of golf at the luxury Campoamor Resort in Orihuela Costa where his name was listed as a tournament player. He was also seen loitering topless on his balcony before smiling and chatting with his buddies on the sun-drenched fairways. Disgraced paedo lawyer rubs shoulders with MPs at key legal meeting - after being exposed as sick pervert It is also understood that the sicko has been learning Spanish and has plans to move to the country in the future. But MacMillan faces potentially being jailed when he returns to Scotland for sentencing. The court previously heard MacMillan and the girl, of Newcastle, chatted before she sent him an image of herself performing a sex act. He then began sending her a string of sickening voice notes. In one message, MacMillan told her: 'When daddy asks you to do something you better do it or there will be trouble.' The disturbing messages were discovered by the child's horrified mother. Members of a vigilante group then confronted him at his former home in Strathaven, Lanarkshire, and cops were alerted. After pleading guilty he was put on the sex offenders register and bailed. He has been suspended from working in dentistry by regulators since March 2023. MacMillan will be sentenced next month.
