Why Kuldeep Yadav Has Taken Over Rohit Sharma's Seat In India Bus: 'It's Just...'
Last Updated:
Kuldeep Yadav has taken Rohit Sharma's seat on the team bus but not to replace him. He reveals the wholesome reason behind it.
Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav has taken over Rohit Sharma's seat in the team bus since the latter's Test retirement, but not to usurp his 'place' but only to spend more time with his 'Jaddu bhai', Ravindra Jadeja.
The left-arm wrist spinner revealed the story while speaking in a press conference on Sunday (June 15), five days before India's first Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy Test against England in Headingley. Although Kuldeep made his debut much before Rohit's appointment as captain, he has often spoken about being quite close and how the former opener backed him during his difficult phases.
Kuldeep said it was 'important' for him to be in touch with his 'spin partner' Jadeja because Ravichandran Ashwin has also taken retirement.
'Uspe main baithta hu (I sit there)," Kuldeep said during the press conference, speaking about Rohit's seat. 'I can never take Rohit bhai's place. It's just that I am spending more time with Jaddu bhai. It's important as a spinner for me because Ash bhai is not there. I have learnt a lot from him. When I started my cricket, I have played with both of them. Very lucky to have Jadeja as my spin partner. I am enjoying it," Kuldeep explained.
Ashwin was the first to take retirement (across formats) last December. Rohit hung his Test boots in early May and then Virat Kohli followed within a week. India have appointed Shubman Gill as the new captain, who'll lead a quite young team to England, where the visitors haven't won a Test series since 2007.

Kuldeep said the team will miss seniors but said it was an opportunity for the new generation to step up.
'When the seniors go away, their absence is always felt. Virat bhai and Rohit bhai have done so much for the team. They will be missed, but it's also an opportunity for youngsters to perform well. But yes, I am sure everybody would be missing the seniors. But the youngsters are excited for the challenge. Batsmen are working very hard in the nets and preparing really well," Kuldeep stated.

IND Vs ENG 2025: Meet India's 18-Man Test Squad Led By Shubman Gill
Curated By : Last Updated: June 16, 2025, 13:38 IST India will play five Tests during the tour. (Image Credit: BCCI) A new era dawns for the Indian men's Test cricket team. With the retirement of stalwarts Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Rohit Sharma, a young 18-man squad led by Shubman Gill aims to become only the fourth touring party from India to win a Test series on English soil. In their 19 previous tours of England, India have secured three series victories – in 1971, 1986, and 2007 – and two drawn series – in 2002 and 2021. The remaining 14 tours have ended in defeat. These statistics underscore the considerable challenge awaiting this relatively young and inexperienced squad. High on Promise, Low on Experience The combined Test experience of Kohli, Ashwin, and Rohit totalled a remarkable 296 matches. In contrast, the 18 members of the current squad have played a combined 371 Tests, with 258 of those appearances concentrated among just five players. Of the remaining 13, three are yet to make their Test debut. The tour's greatest challenge will be for the Indian batsmen, who must adjust to swinging conditions after two months of T20 cricket. Playing close to the body and resisting the temptation to chase deliveries outside the off stump will be crucial. India's batting will revolve around Rahul, Pant, Gill, and Jaiswal. Attention will also be focused on Karun Nair, who is poised to make his international return after a long absence. The bowlers will need to focus on bowling a driving length to encourage batsmen to drive, thereby increasing the chances of inducing an edge. This is easier said than done, particularly as the pacemen have become accustomed to bowling shorter lengths on the flatter pitches used in the Indian Premier League. Jasprit Bumrah remains the spearhead of the pace attack. However, given his anticipated absence for at least two Tests, others, particularly Mohammed Siraj, will need to step up and lead the attack when required. World archery championships: Dhiraj, Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat and compound archer V. Jyothi to compete
Reigning compound individual World champions Ojas Deotale and Aditi Swami, Asian Games silver medallist Abhishek Verma and Olympian recurve archers Atanu Das and Bhajan Kaur have missed out on berths in the Indian team for the World archery championships, to be held in Gwangju, South Korea, from September 5 to 12. Paris Olympians B. Dhiraj, Deepika Kumari and Ankita Bhakat and multiple Worlds medallist compound archer V. Jyothi Surekha were among those who finished inside the top three in the selection trials held at the Army Sports Institute, Pune. The country can field a maximum of three archers in each category. Youngsters Neeraj Chauhan (who beat Dhiraj in the elimination stage), Rahul and Gatha Khadake (who saw off Bhajan in elimination) gave impressive performances through the multi-format trials to earn coveted slots. Archers finishing fourth in the trials will join the top three for the World Cup Stage-4 in Madrid from July 8 to 13. It is learnt that in case a top-three archer's performance drops drastically in Madrid, the Archery Association of India (AAI) may consider replacing him/her with the fourth-placed athlete in that particular category for the World championships. A final decision on this is awaited. Top-four archers: Recurve: Men: 1. B. Dhiraj, 2. Neeraj Chauhan, 3. Rahul, 4. Tarundeep Rai; Women: 1. Deepika Kumari, 2. Ankita Bhakat, 3. Gatha Khadake, 4. India ends third in medal tally with four medals at 2025 ISSF World Cup in Munich
The 36-member Indian shooting contingent will return from the 2025 ISSF World Cup in Munich with a total of four medals – two gold and two bronze – which saw them end in third spot at the overall standings behind People's Republic of China and Norway. For India, bring home the medals are two-time Olympian Elavenil Valarivan (who won a bronze in the women's 10m air rifle category, after scoring 231.2 and set a new national record during the qualification round of the same event, recording an exceptional score of 635.9), rifle shooter Sift Kaur Samra (who secured third place on the podium in the 50m rifle 3 positions event), nineteen-year-old Suruchi Singh (who previously won gold in both the Buenos Aires and Lima legs of the 2025 ISSF World Cup and added one more gold in Munich in the women's 10m air pistol event), and the duo of Arjun Babuta and Arya Borse (by registering a dominant 17-7 victory over the Chinese team to finish atop the podium in the 10m air rifle mixed team event). Manu Bhaker, who had won two medals at Paris Olympics, failed to win a medal at the Munich World Cup. She was competing in the 10m air pistol, 25m individual shooting events besides pairing up with Aditya Malra in the mixed team event. Like Suruchi, Arya has been making waves on the shooting circuit after Paris Olympics cycle ended. Arya had joined hands with Rudrankksh Patil to win the 10m air rifle mixed team silver medals at the ISSF World Cups in Buenos Aires and Lima. Arya and Arjun had claimed the gold medal by defeated China's Wang Zifei and Sheng Lihao in the 10m air rifle mixed team final which was remarkable as Sheng is the reigning men's 10m air rifle individual champion and had combined with Huang Yuting to claim gold in the mixed team event at Paris 2024 last year. The next event of the ISSF World Cup 2025 for rifle and pistol shooters is scheduled to take place in Ningbo, China, in September.
