Before the main Las Vegas summer league takes place, the Los Angeles Lakers and a few other teams typically participate in the California Classic summer league. It gives the players taking part in it a few extra games to hone their skills and get ready for what lies ahead, not just in Las Vegas but also during the NBA's regular season.
Lakers fans are hoping to see Bronny James and Dalton Knecht, as well as perhaps a few other promising players, take part in summer league this year. James said he will play in Las Vegas, but it is unknown if he will participate in the California Classic, and it is unknown if Knecht will partake in either summer league this year.
The schedule for this year's California Classic has been released. The Lakers will play against the Golden State Warriors on July 5, the Miami Heat on July 6 and the San Antonio Spurs on July 8.
Afterward, the main Las Vegas summer league will start on July 10 and conclude on July 20.

New Report Emerges on Potential Lakers Trade Target
New Report Emerges on Potential Lakers Trade Target originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Lakers have been tied to Utah Jazz center Walker Kessler for quite some time. They most recently tried to acquire him during the 2025 NBA Trade Deadline. Per a March report from NBA insider Marc Stein, the Lakers and New York Knicks tried to discuss a trade with the Jazz, but Utah wasn't interested. Advertisement "League sources say that the Knicks were right there with the Lakers in their determination before the trade deadline to try to convince Utah to engage in meaningful Walker Kessler trade talks," Stein wrote. "No dice, though. The Jazz made it clear they wanted no part of entertaining Kessler pitches in-season." Utah Jazz center Walker Kessler (24).© Soobum Im-Imagn Images Kessler remained with the Jazz for the rest of the season. However, this offseason, Utah might make some changes after hiring Austin Ainge as President of Basketball Operations. The Deseret News' Sarah Todd reported that Kessler is among the players the Jazz would put on the trade market this offseason. "Numerous league sources have indicated that they believe the Jazz are going to be active over the next several weeks," Todd wrote. "...league sources have said that they expect for conversations to include Walker Kessler (who is extension eligible) and Lauri Markkanen." Kessler could be the type of rim protector and vertical threat LA needs alongside LeBron James and Luka Doncic. He is also paid on a rookie contract, which is valuable given his production. Advertisement The Jazz also own the Lakers' 2027 first-round pick (top-four protected), so they might be hesitant to help LA in a deal. Then again, they were the third team that helped facilitate the Doncic trade. Lakers to reportedly make changes to one of their jerseys next season
The Los Angeles Lakers have always had some of the most iconic uniforms in all of sports. Ever since the late 1960s, when they adopted their current wordmark logo and purple and gold colors, there have been only mild alterations to their jerseys and shorts every so often. In recent years, some have complained about the design of the Lakers' Statement Edition uniforms. They feature a purple background and black numbers with a gold drop shadow, as well as a black side stripe, which is a departure from tradition since black isn't a team color. Advertisement According to ProLine Mockups, the team's Statement Edition jerseys will look somewhat different next season. The photo that was leaked shows them with white numbers that have a gold shadow and the Lakers' wordmark logo in white. ProLine Mockups stressed that the photo shown is of a base design, which means that the final design may look a little different.
