A Minnesota woman seen using a racial slur against a child in a video posted on social media has raised over $300,000 through a crowdfunding campaign, saying she and her family need to relocate for their safety.
The incident, which occurred at Soldiers Field Memorial Park in Rochester, shows a woman, identified as Shiloh Hendrix, using the n-word in an argument with a man who confronted her about her language toward a Black child. The video, which circulated across social media platforms including X and TikTok, shows Hendrix repeating the slur and defending her actions by claiming the child stole from her toddler's diaper bag.
Newsweek reached out to the Rochester Police Department via email for comment.
Why It Matters
The rapid spread of the video and subsequent support for the woman at the center of the controversy has reignited debates over online harassment, free speech, racism and digital fundraising platforms.
Civil rights leaders and lawmakers are condemning the incident, but Hendrix's fundraiser on GiveSendGo has collected over $300,000 in donations since its launch on Thursday.
What To Know
Hendrix, who acknowledged being the woman in the video, created the fundraiser titled "Help Me Protect My Family" on GiveSendGo. She claimed in the campaign description that her personal information, including her address and Social Security number, had been leaked, and that she and her children faced online threats.

"I fear that we must relocate," Hendrix wrote on the page. "We have been threatened to the extreme by people online. Anything will help! We cannot, and will not live in fear!"
Hendrix said the Black child stole from her 18-month-old's diaper bag.
"I called the kid out for what he was," Hendrix wrote on the page.
In a second video showing Hendrix standing by a vehicle, the man recording says, "I have never seen anybody be a racist to a child on the spectrum of autism. Today, this is her."
Some people donating to the GiveSendGo campaign said they were doing so to help stand up for the white race with one donor writing that the "White race is under threat of impending extinction." Others said they donated to protect the First Amendment and others suggested she save some of the money for legal fees.
"We are all fatigued and know that rather than changing their behavior, minorities insist on trying to police our words," donor Elijah Schaffer wrote alongside a $650 donation.
The Rochester branch of the NAACP has called on authorities to investigate the woman's actions, which they described as an "intentional racist, threatening, hateful and verbal attack against a child" in a statement.
What People Are Saying
Rochester NAACP President Wale Elegbede told The Minnesota Star Tribune: "Now she's fundraising on this, and that is just abhorrent and totally unacceptable. She needs to face legal consequences for all her actions. This is a disgrace."
Hendrix, on GiveSendGo: "We are taking the proper procedures in order to stay safe from these constant threats. I'm still very frightened, and I don't think I will feel safe until we can escape completely."
A recent anonymous donor on GiveSendGo: "We have had enough of this archaic nonsense, innocent people's lives should not be destroyed because of a word."
What Happens Next
Local and state officials have issued statements condemning the incident. Rochester Mayor Kim Norton emphasized continued efforts to support anti-racist initiatives, telling the Star Tribune, "We will continue to do that in this city because it's the right thing to do."
The Rochester Police Department told the Rochester Post Bulletin they are actively looking into the incident after receiving multiple calls.
With the video still drawing attention online and the fundraiser crossing the $300,000 mark, local officials and civil rights organizations continue to call for accountability and community dialogue. The Rochester NAACP is also urging the family of the child and any witnesses to contact the organization for legal support.

Op-Ed: R. Kelly Asking Trump To Save Him From A White Supremacist Murder Plot Was Not On My 2025 Bingo Card

Source: Cook County Department of Corrections / Cook County Department of Corrections Look, man… 2025 has already been a wild year, which we all knew it would be the day President Donald Trump was elected to the White House for a second time, but amid all the chaos, I still did not have R .Kelly's attorney asking Trump to free the disgraced King of R&B from prison to save him from a white supremacist murder plot on by 2025 Bingo card. According to USA Today, lawyers for Kelly, who is serving a 30-year sentence in a North Carolina prison for racketeering and sex trafficking, are claiming the federal government is colluding with the Aryan Brotherhood to murder the 'I Believe I Can Fly' ( but can I fly the coop? ) singer because Kelly is threatening to expose prosecutorial corruption during his case. 'Federal officers have solicited the murder of R. Kelly because he intends to expose the corruption underlying his federal prosecutions. We have filed our motion to make sure that they fail,' Kelly's attorney, Beau B Brindley, wrote in a statement on Wednesday. 'The only thing that can protect Mr. Kelly behind the prison walls now is the fact that now the world is watching. And we will call on the courts and President Trump to help put an end to the corruption that now threatens Mr. Kelly's life.' From USA Today: Kelly's team provided a sworn statement from an inmate named Mikeal Stine, saying the officials offered to release him amid his terminal illness in exchange for Kelly's murder. Stine, a leader of the Aryan Brotherhood, alleged he was previously directed to order beatings and killings by a prison official who also ordered the killing of Kelly. Stine said he was transferred in March to the Federal Correctional Institute facility in Butner, North Carolina – where Kelly is being held – and placed in the same unit. Once Stine carried out the killing, he claimed officials said he would be allowed to escape the facility and though he'd be charged with murder, evidence would be mishandled, resulting in no conviction. However, according to Stine's declaration, he had a change of heart and told Kelly about the plot. Kelly's lawyers also claim that in June, a second inmate with the Aryan Brotherhood was directed to kill both Stine and Kelly. OK, so, a few things… First, is this real life or Tyler Perry's next movie script? Secondly — *heavy sigh* — the 'Bill Cosby was trying to buy NBC' crowd is about to have a field day with this one. (I was going to make an 'R. Kelly was trying to buy Nickelodeon' joke, but I'ma stay classy.) There are already enough fans of predatory Black men pretending that these millionaire entertainers who have never busted a revolutionary grape throughout their careers are getting the Malcolm X treatment from 'the powers that be.' (I was wrong. It's worse than a Tyler Perry plot — it's a Dr. Umar Johnson documentary.) Lastly — and I hesitate to offer any legal advice that would help the Pied Predator evade justice, but — this just seems like poor strategy. I mean, Kelly's lawyers are expecting Trump to save him from white supremacists. Don't they know, as far as the MAGA messiah is concerned, white supremacists are the homies? I mean, Brindley thinks appealing to Trump will get his client out of lockup. I think it's at least slightly more likely Trump will respond by telling the Brotherhood, ' Stand back and stand by, but I'll always fight for your Second Amendment right to bear shivs. ' Unless Kelly comes out of the closet he was trapped in as a white Afrikaner from South Africa, my money is on his little 'fleeing from certain death' plea is likely to fall on deaf ears. Brindley was better off claiming Kelly was in danger of being murdered by incarcerated Black Lives Matter protesters who were trying to prevent him from exposing a massive 'illegal DEI' operation in the prison system. R. Kelly is facing a murder plot by illegal MS-13 immigrants who are trying to kill him before he writes a letter to the White House, asking, 'Ain't they supposed to be in El Salvador?' That's the kind of story that might get you aboard the Jan. 6 Pardon Train. Coming at Trump with a plea to flee white supremacists is just going to cause the president to 'very fine people on both sides' Kelly to death. Actually, Brindley isn't seeking a pardon for his client. He said Kelly's legal team isn't seeking clemency but more so 'a conversation with the president.' 'This is precisely the kind [of] prosecutorial corruption that President [Donald] Trump has vowed to eradicate,' he said. 'We believe [Trump] is the only one with both the power and the courage to do it. And we will surely seek whatever help he can provide us in this fight.' Hell, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe Kelly's legal team can pull off the hat trick after all. I mean, Trump does have a history of sexual assault allegations, including the case he was found liable for, that damn near rivals that of the 12 Play artist. They're pretty much two peas in a predator pod. All I know is, if Trump gets Kelly out of prison and places him on house arrest or something similar — the Step In The Name of MAGA album is going to be wild. I hate it here. The Unrest In California Proves Trump's Always Wanted To War

Source: The Washington Post / Getty 'If it's a lie then we fight on that lie…but we gotta fight,' —Slim Charles, The Wire. It's all been a lie. The frightening story of immigrants killing and raping Americans. The fear-mongering that immigrants are taking American jobs. The horror stories of an open border and hordes of people coming across in the middle of the night. All of it has been a lie. And yet, none of it has stopped this administration from waging a full-out war on Latinos and people of color. Currently, the military-obsessed president has turned peaceful protests into a standoff between those who don't believe people should be arrested at graduation ceremonies and court hearings against the American soldiers. As it stands, some 2,000 National Guardsmen and 700 Marines have been sent to California to quell mostly non-violent demonstrations against Trump's authoritarian push to 'Make America white again.' And all of it is based on lies. Lies that began under Trump's first presidency, when he claimed that illegal immigration was so bad that he wanted to build a wall and Mexico was going to pay for it. Despite that entire campaign falling flat on its face, the alarmism and fear tactics of the scary illegal stealing your job, woman, and Toyota Camry persisted. So much so that once Trump got back in office, he began a war on immigrants using his henchmen at ICE to round up people of color, whether they'd actually committed a crime or not, and have them incarcerated and deported. And all of this was built on lies. But here's the truth: Illegal immigrants make up only 3.5% of the total U.S. population, which is around 11 million people. Clearly that number is impossible to know exactly, '…the estimate essentially comes from taking the foreign-born population from census records, then subtracting the number of legal immigrants.' Around 8.1 million of these undocumented immigrants are working or looking for work, and despite using fake social security cards to secure employment, those workers who are not paid in cash pay taxes on the money they earn. 'In 2010, they contributed an estimated $10.6 billion in state and local taxes, and $13 billion in Social Security,' The Week reports. 'Contrary to common perception, illegal immigrants don't qualify for public benefits like welfare, food stamps, and Medicaid, as these programs require proof of legal immigration status.' This means that they pay into a system and receive nothing in return. Two-thirds of undocumented immigrants have been in the U.S. for 10 or more years, and some 60% of that population lives in six states: California, Texas, Florida, New York, New Jersey, and Illinois. And because Trump has waged war on immigration, the federal government spends more money trying to round up and deport those taxpayers than they do on the FBI, the Drug Enforcement Agency and the U.S. Marshals Service combined. Source: David McNew / Getty All of this is based on the myth that immigrants, especially undocumented immigrants, commit crimes at an alarming rate. However, studies have found that while immigration has increased over the years, crime rates have decreased. 'The American Immigration Council compared crime data to demographic data from 1980 to 2022, the most recent data available. The data showed that as the immigrant share of the population grew, the crime rate declined,' a study done by the American Immigration Council found. 'In 1980, immigrants made up 6.2% of the U.S. population, and the total crime rate was 5,900 crimes per 100,000 people. By 2022, the share of immigrants had more than doubled, to 13.9%, while the total crime rate had dropped by 60.4%, to 2,335 crimes per 100,000 people. Specifically, the violent crime rate fell by 34.5% and the property crime rate fell by 63.3%,' it reads. But this is personal, it always has been. Trump and his administration has labeled Venezuelans 'rapists,' 'savages,' 'monsters' and 'the worst of the worst.' This fear-mongering led to the arrest of some 238 Venezuelans who were sent to a maximum-security prison in El Salvador. An investigation by the Texas Tribune and ProPublica found that not only had many of those deported not been convicted or even accused of crimes, but the Trump administration knew this and deported them anyway. Source: Kevin Carter / Getty Because this was never about the truth. This was always about a little man with freakishly small hands and a giant ego who was never taken seriously, in business or in politics. This has always been about the joke of a president wanting desperately to be seen as a man. It's why he's been hellbent on releasing the military. He was going to deploy a militaristic show of force because that's what bullies do. Whether it was his nonsensical, wildly-expensive showcase of army vehicles during his birthday, or the deployment of troops on peaceful protesters, the president is so far from being an emperor that someone might want to tell him. This was never about immigration; this has always been about a cartoonish heel needing an opponent, and unfortunately for America, the boy impersonating a president has set his sights on anybody in the immigrant community. And even though it's all based on lies, he's still going to ride on that.
