B.C. RCMP say man impersonated police, then called 9-1-1 to make report
RICHMOND - Mounties in Richmond, B.C., say they have arrested a man who they believe impersonated a police officer and conducted a traffic stop, then called 9-1-1 to report his own actions.
The RCMP say they received a report around 1 p.m. on Sunday from a man who said he was pulled over by a driver in a Ford Mustang equipped with red and blue police lights.

Remains of Merritt, B.C., man found 2 years after disappearance
Social Sharing RCMP in the B.C. Interior have confirmed that a Merritt man's body was found more than two years after his disappearance. Miguel Mack was last seen on Feb. 27, 2023. He was reported missing on March 3 when family had not seen or heard from him for several days. On Wednesday, RCMP said that they had learned that his remains had been found and identified in April. Police said that Mack's family had been told of the discovery, but they did not disclose where exactly his remains were found. "The investigation into Miguel Mack's death continues to remain a priority," said Staff Sgt. Jason Smart with the Southeast District Major Crime Unit. "There are people out there with direct and indirect knowledge of Miguel Mack's death and we are asking those individuals to come forward and contact the police." The major crime unit had been looking into Mack's disappearance in 2023, saying that it was suspicious and involved criminality. Volunteers had covered much of the Nicola Valley in the search, and it reached as far as Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, Victoria, Bella Coola and Prince George.

Cyclist fatally struck by pickup truck on Vancouver Island: RCMP
A bike tire is seen in this stock image. (Milada Vigerova/ A senior cyclist was struck and killed by a pickup truck in the Vancouver Island community of Nanoose Bay on Friday, according to police. The Oceanside RCMP says first responders were called to Marina Way near Carmel Place around 10:50 a.m. after a collision involving multiple cyclists and a Ford pickup truck. Two cyclists were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. A third died at the scene. Police say the deceased is a 79-year-old man from Qualicum Beach. 'While all of the contributing factors into this collision are still being determined, the initial investigation indicates that the pickup truck entered onto Marina Way from a side street and collided with the cyclists who were riding on Marina Way,' Mounties wrote in a news release Saturday. 'Drugs and alcohol on the part of the pickup truck driver and the cyclists have been excluded as contributing factors. The pickup driver remained on scene and is co-operating with the investigation.' RCMP collision analysts and the BC Coroners Service are investigating the crash, and police ask anyone with information or video to call 250-248-6111.

At the time, he was on parole for another previous sexual misconduct conviction. His counsel claimed that Dueck was 'mentally handicapped' and was a failure of the system. In 2022, he was denied parole for a previous conviction, but was released without notice to Kelowna residents after servicing his sentence in 2023. He'd also previously been the subject of public police warnings in 2020 when he was released in the Fraser Valley after serving time for sex crimes. His current parole conditions of house arrest include: • Being inside his residence, or on its property, 24 hours a day, every day. • A ban on visiting any public park, public swimming area, community centre, theatre, daycare centre, school ground, or playground, where persons under the age of 16 years are present or can reasonably be expected to be present. • No contact or communication, directly or indirectly, or be in the presence of any person under the age of 16 years. RCMP team up to take down 187 km/h motorcyclist A man in Kelowna was arrested in a dramatic takedown and had his motorcycle impounded after being spotted driving at 187 km/h on Highway 97C near Merritt on Friday. Article content Originally spotted by Merritt Highway Patrol travelling at a high rate of speed, the officers did not pursue the vehicle in light of public safety, instead radioing ahead to the Kelowna Integrated Road Safety Unit (IRSU) with a description of the bike, rider and direction of travel. The suspect was spotted Peachland at 4:29 p.m., still travelling at a high rate of speed while weaving in and out of traffic and conducting unsafe passing. Two police vehicles attempted to stop the motorcycle but were unsuccessful. They radioed ahead to another IRSU unit, who observed the bike going into West Kelowna. Shortly after, police caught up to the rider at the intersection of Highway 97S and Gellatly Road, boxing in the bike with their cars. The rider attempted to flee, but police said they were able to pull the rider from the stationary motorcycle, and he was arrested. Article content The adult driver was charged with several offences including two counts of excessive speed, two counts of failing to stop for police, driving without consideration as well as other motor vehicle act offences. The motorcycle was also impounded. Three injured in massive gas station fire near Chilliwack A massive fire broke out at a Shell gas station off of Highway 1 near Bridal Falls Road on Saturday, leaving three people injured. Online video showed a camper completely engulfed in flames under the station's awning, with black smoke billowing into the sky. After a call at 11:58 a.m. about the fire, emergency services responded with three primary care paramedics, once advanced care paramedic, one responder unit and a supervisor, as well as a critical care helicopter. Paramedics transported one patient by helicopter to hospital in critical condition and two patients via ground, both in stable condition.
