"Provoking Communal Discord": Centre Lists Aims Of Pahalgam Attack

The heinous terror attack in Pahalgam on innocent tourists was conducted not only to shred the peace in Jammu and Kashmir and destroy its tourism-based economy but also with the bigger motive of unleashing communal riots in the country. The foreign ministry said this today, noting that the terrorists' plans were foiled because of the government and the people of India.
"The attack was clearly driven by the objective of undermining the normalcy returning to Jammu & Kashmir. In particular, it was designed to impact the mainstay of the economy, tourism, with a record 23 million tourists visiting the valley last year,' the foreign ministry said today.
"The calculation, presumably, was that harming growth and development in the Union Territory would help keep it backward and create fertile ground for continued cross-border terrorism from Pakistan,' the ministry said.
"The manner of the attack was also driven by an objective of provoking communal discord, both in Jammu and Kashmir and the rest of the nation. It is to the credit of the government and the people of India that these designs were foiled," Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said today.
Some eye-witnesses had said the terrorists has shot down men in cold blood in front of their families after confirming their religion. Following the attack, outrage had spread across the country. Kashmir, where a ponywalla died protecting the tourists, people condemned the attack. "Not in my name," almost became a slogan in the protests held across the Kashmir Valley.
The ministry's comment came hours after the armed forces conducted the "Operation Sindoor" with missile strikes at terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.
Under 'Operation Sindoor', the army and the Air Force targeted Markaz Taiba of Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke, Markaz Subhan Allah of Jaish-e-Mohammad or JeM in Bahawalpur and Hizbul Mujahideen's Mehmoona Joya Facility in Sialkot and Lashkar's base in Markaz Ahle Hadith in Barnala and its camp in Muzaffarabad's Shawai Nalla. Muridke, located a short distance from Lahore, is home to a sprawling "markaz" or base of the Lashkar.

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday launched a multifold attack on leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, calling him a 'leader of Pakistani propaganda" over his "PM Modi surrendered' remarks amid the India-Pakistan ceasefire understanding. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala asked the Congress leader to listen to Shashi Tharoor and other party leaders, who have said there was no third-party mediation to pause Operation Sindoor. The kind of propaganda that even Pakistan was not able to do, he is doing," PTI quoted Poonawala as saying. Poonawala said Rahul Gandhi likes things which are foreign, be it propaganda or a leader. According to Shehzad Poonawalla, Pakistan, which has 'admitted' that it was "beaten up" by India during Operation Sindoor, was "pleading" with India to stop military action. "Rahul Gandhi, believe in what the DGMO said, what the ministry of external affairs said. If not them, at least believe in Shashi (Tharoor), Manish (Tewari) and Salman (Khurshid). They have said that no mediation happened, India did not call up (Pakistan), their DGMO reached out to India," Poonawalla said. BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari also launched a fierce attack on the Rae Bareli MP, accusing him of making "indecent" remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and questioning his values and patriotism. "Rahul Gandhi's words reflect his values. He makes such indecent remarks against the country's Prime Minister. But this is what can be expected from Rahul Gandhi, whose heart beats for Pakistan. Because when he offers floral tributes to the statue of his grandmother (Indira Gandhi), he does not even remove his shoes," Bhandari said. BJP MP Sambit Patra said Rahul Gandhi's speech in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday does not befit any "civilised politician or any leader of the opposition." Sharing a self-made video on X, Sambit Patra said, 'Today, during his speech in Madhya Pradesh, Rahul Gandhi has not only insulted Operation Sindoor but also the Indian Army and the country. The way Rahul Gandhi spoke about Operation Sindoor does not befit any civilised politician, any leader of the opposition or any politician. This kind of politician, who uses words like 'surrender' for his motherland, is not fit for the country.' Rahul Gandhi attacked the BJP-led government on Tuesday over allegations of mediation by the United States in Operation Sindoor. He alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi "followed" Donald Trump after the US leader called him and that the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi did not budge to the US in the 1971 war. "Now, I understand RSS-BJP well. They run away out of fear if slight pressure is put on them. When Trump called Modiji- Modiji kya kar rahe ho, Narender-Surrender and with 'ji hazooor', Narenderji followed Trump. In the 1971 war, the Seventh Fleet came from the US. India Gandhi said I will do whatever I have to do. This is the difference. This is their character; all of them are like this. Since the Independence movement, they have had the habit of writing letters of surrender," he said while addressing a convention of Congress workers in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal. Rahul Gandhi doubled down on his attack through a social media post, stating, "Trump's phone came, and PM Narendra Modi ji immediately surrendered. History is witness. This is the character of the BJP-RSS; they always budge. India had bifurcated Pakistan in 1971 despite the threat by the United States. United Oppn demands spl Parl session on Op Sindoor
New Delhi: In a significant move, 16 Opposition parties from the INDIA Bloc have written a joint letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to convene a special session of Parliament to deliberate on the recent Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, and other key national security issues. While the opposition has extended support to the government's actions against terrorism, it has also stressed the importance of transparent and strategic discussions within the framework of Parliament. 'Our demand has been consistent -- a special session of Parliament should be called, not only to express gratitude to our armed forces for their bravery and sacrifice, but also to allow the government to present its comprehensive stance on the matter,' the Congress said in a statement following a meeting of INDIA bloc leaders. Addressing the media, Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda elaborated on the parties' concerns: 'We expect the government to speak on issues such as Operation Sindoor, the recent ceasefire announcement by the US, diplomatic efforts to isolate Pakistan globally, and a concrete strategy to uproot terrorism. Parliament is the voice of 140 crore citizens -- this is where such matters must be addressed.' Trinamool Congress leader Derek O'Brien emphasised the constitutional responsibility of the government to keep Parliament informed. 'The government is accountable to the Parliament, and Parliament is accountable to the people. That is why 16 parties have signed this letter, demanding a special session,' he said. Losses not important, outcome is: Says CDS Chauhan amid row over Op Sindoor setbacks
New Delhi: Days after his comments on India's losses during Operation Sindoor stirred a controversy, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan on Tuesday said that the losses were not important, but what matters is the outcome of the operation. Addressing an event at Pune University, General Chauhan stressed that the armed forces must be able to recognise and rectify their mistakes and cannot remain passive in the face of setbacks. "When I was asked about losses on our side, I said these are not important. The results and how you act are important. It would not be very correct to talk about losses. Suppose you go in a cricket test match, and you win by an innings defeat, then there's no question of how many wickets, how many balls and how many players" he said. Speaking on 'Future Wars and Warfare', he added, "I think professional forces are not affected by setbacks or losses; in a war, what is important is that the morale needs to remain high even if there are setbacks. Adaptability is an important constituent of a very professional force". The top military general, in an interview with Bloomberg in Singapore, admitted for the first time that an unspecified number of Indian fighter jets were downed in the initial stage of Operation Sindoor against Pakistan, but the armed forces quickly rectified their mistakes and struck again. He, however, dismissed the Pakistan Prime Minister's claims that six Indian jets, including four Rafales, were shot down as "absolutely incorrect". "What is important is that, not the jet being down, but why they were being down... Why they were down, what mistakes were made - that are important. Numbers are not important," General Chauhan had said. These remarks, made on foreign soil, drew sharp reactions from the Opposition, which targeted the government, saying it should have informed the parties about the losses before the general revealed them abroad. Multiple Congress leaders argued that the remarks warrant broader political discussions and reiterated their demands for a special parliamentary session to discuss India's military action against Pakistan. India launched Operation Sindoor against Pakistan on May 7, targeting terror camps, a fortnight after the Pahalgam terrorist attack that killed 26. Pakistan responded by sending a barrage of drones to Indian cities, prompting India to retaliate by targeting Pakistani army airbases. Pakistan had claimed that it had downed six Indian fighter jets, a claim India had previously downplayed.
