Thousands return to city park to celebrate Eid
Thousands of Muslims gathered in a Birmingham park to celebrate the Islamic festival of Eid.
It was the first time in three years the event, in Small Heath Park on Sunday, had been held, following bad weather in 2023 and 2024.
Eid al-Fitr is the celebration at the end of Ramadan, a month of fasting.
Green Lane mosque, which organises the event, said this year there was even more of a community spirit than in previous years.
The mosque's head of welfare, Sidrah Awan, said hundreds of people had also broken their fast at the mosque.
She added: "That community spirit was throughout the whole of Ramadan and people were so happy to give back and help those that are harder to reach."
One person attending the park, Aqsa Nasar, said: "When you see people coming together, it is such an unreal and beautiful feeling.
"I think everyone must visit it, because we celebrate Eid twice a year."
A family group, of Moroccan and Bangladeshi heritage, included Chaymae, who visited her sister Rashida in the Midlands.
Chaymae said: "I've come all the way from London to meet our family, my sister that lives here [in Smethwick] and we actually come here every year, same park, same place, love it.
"The atmosphere's amazing."
In April last year, the mosque said it had made the "difficult decision" to not hold gatherings marking the end of Ramadan at the park and the Edgbaston cricket ground.
Eid al-Fitr prayers took place at the mosque in Small Heath.
On Sunday, Rashida said: "I was checking this morning to make sure it's still going ahead. I was like "it's fine, it's not raining, it's all good'".
Akram Atmani joined the worship at the park and said there was "a great sense of community".
He added: "A lot of people get together, which is amazing. It's really nice that they let us use the park."
The mosque's head of PR Haniya Aadam said: "There's actually a line in the Quran that says 'when you look up to the sky, do you see my signs?'
"So it's nice to pray outside just to feel that bit closer to God."
West Midlands mayor Richard Parker described the event as fantastic and praised the mosque, the police and the council for organising it.

Tilbury water supply secure as Wheatley plant rebuild continues
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent says it remains confident in its ability to continue supplying safe drinking water to Tilbury residents, despite ongoing reliance on a temporary water system in Wheatley following a fire at the Wheatley Water Treatment Plant. Since the September 2023 blaze forced the shutdown of the facility, the Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission has been operating a temporary water treatment system in Wheatley and implemented outdoor water restrictions to manage supply. 'With the current extra demand on the Wheatley water system, we are experiencing a critically low amount of water in our reservoirs and water towers and are asking all customers to eliminate all outdoor water usage,' Karen Burgess, director of operations for water and wastewater, said in an April 25 statement. The restrictions — which included a ban on lawn watering, washing vehicles, filling pools and outdoor construction — were lifted on May 13 for customers in both Wheatley and Tilbury. However, a lawn watering restriction remains in place and officials are asking residents to continue complying voluntarily. Burgess told the Tilbury Times Reporter the quality of drinking water has not been affected, and that the PUC continues to meet all provincial guidelines for treatment, disinfection and monitoring while the temporary system is in operation. If the rebuild of the Wheatley plant — targeted for completion by August — is delayed, the municipality says contingency plans are in place to ensure a continued water supply for Tilbury. 'We will continue to utilize the temporary water treatment system that has been set up in Wheatley,' Burgess said. 'As a contingency, we can acquire water from the South Chatham-Kent Water Treatment Plant in Blenheim, along with water from the Leamington distribution system. Hauling water from the Chatham Drinking Water System to Tilbury has also been used in the past.' She said the municipality is confident its current infrastructure and emergency supply plans will maintain safe and stable water service for the community. Water line issue on Northside Parkway closes road near West Paces Ferry
ATLANTA - Shortly before noon Friday, Atlanta's Department of Watershed Management (DWM) said that it is actively responding to a major water line issue that has disrupted service along the Northside Parkway corridor. The problem involves a 16-inch water line, and repair crews are currently on site. However, work to fix the issue cannot begin until a fallen tree is safely removed and a partner utility completes repairs to its own infrastructure in the area. As a safety measure, Northside Parkway has been temporarily closed between West Paces Ferry Road and 3715 Northside Parkway (near North Creek Office Park). The road will remain closed while crews assess and repair the damage. Officials are urging the public to remain patient as efforts continue to restore service and ensure the safety of both the public and workers. Yellow warning for heavy rain and thunder on island
A yellow weather warning for heavy rain and thunder storms on the Isle of Man has been issued by Ronaldsway Met Office. In place from 03:00 until 16:00 BST on Saturday, forecasters said rain overnight would turn heavy at dawn, with up to 25mm of rainfall expected in some places. The Met Office said this would bring "significant" areas of standing water and a small risk of flooding in some areas. There was also a "small risk" of thunderstorms, which was most likely overnight into the late morning. If the risk of thunderstorms increased or became more significant a further warning would be issued, Ronaldsway Met Office said.
