You can celebrate Halloween early in these 9 cities, starting next month

Time Out30-04-2025

It may seem like we just celebrated spring's arrival, but for those in touch with the spooky side of things, the month of May represents the halfway point to Halloween. You may be one of those who want to set aside thoughts of flowers and grassy meadows in favor of thinking about coffins, ghosts, and screams in the night. US Ghost Adventures, a company that runs ghost tours and overnight stays at three different murder houses—including the Lizzie Borden House —is celebrating this halfway landmark with its Halfway 2 Halloween 'Spooktacular' events.
Each weekend from May 2 to 17, you can engage in special haunted celebrations in Alexandria, Virginia; Boston, Massachusetts; Charlotte, North Carolina; Charleston, South Carolina; Deadwood, South Dakota; Honolulu, Hawai'i; Orlando, Florida; Seattle, Washington; and St. Augustine, Florida. The Spooktacular events include enhanced ghost tours with storytelling, paranormal investigations and 'immersive encounters' with costumed guides.
The ghost tours are, of course, held after dark for maximum spookitude. At the haunted pub crawls, you'll enjoy a themed cocktail while listening to ghostly tales. You can participate in a live ghost (oxymoron alert!) investigation—and maybe this is the time that you get a message from the other side of the veil. Not only are the tour guides dressed up, but you are encouraged to dress up as well and make the night more entertaining. Halloween can't come soon enough!

Scottish towns where most couples fly to Vegas to get married as full list revealed

From Elvis to Halloween or Star Trek themes, here's a look at the numbers behind Scots saying "I do" on the Vegas Strip. Las Vegas remains a top choice for Scottish couples eager to say "I do," whether they prefer the charm of Elvis officiants or the spectacle of the Bellagio Fountains. New research from reveals that residents of smaller and medium-sized Scottish towns are more likely to jet off to the 'Marriage Capital of the World' to tie the knot and create lasting memories. Bathgate in West Lothian leads the way, boasting the highest rate of Vegas weddings with 93.22 marriages per 100,000 people over the past decade. ‌ It is followed closely by Motherwell with 90.82 marriages per 100,000 and Wishaw at 66.2 per 100,000, Scottish Daily Express reports. ‌ A spokesman for explained, 'This figure puts Bathgate ahead of larger cities such as Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness. "While larger cities like London and Manchester account for higher total numbers of Las Vegas weddings (1,923 and 642, respectively), the per capita data reveals which smaller towns are proportionally more inclined to elope in America's marriage capital.' The study, conducted by the world's leading guide for online casinos, analysed ten years of marriage licence records from Clark County to uncover which British towns and cities have been heading to Las Vegas for their big day and celebration. Between 2015 and 2024, 2,660 Scottish couples married in Vegas, though numbers dropped sharply during the Covid pandemic in 2020 and 2021. Still, a few determined couples managed to make the trip despite the significant challenges and restrictions. Top Ten Bathgate – 93.22 marriages per 100,000 Motherwell - 90.82 Wishaw - 66.2 Kilmarnock - 61.22 Perth - 59.13 Dumfries - 57.4 Irvine - 56.38 Dunfermline - 53.71 Aberdeen - 53.12 Dundee - 52.81 ‌ Millennials and Generation X make up the majority of these wedding parties, while around one in four couples tying the knot in Vegas were not first-time newlyweds. September stands out as the most popular month for Scots to marry in the gambling mecca. Las Vegas earned its nickname as the 'Marriage Capital of the World' back in the 1950s, thanks to its simple marriage licence process and relatively low costs involved, making it an accessible and popular choice. Most wedding chapels cluster on or near the famous Las Vegas Strip, often featuring Elvis Presley impersonators as officiants. Couples can also opt for unique and fun themes like Hawaiian, Fairy Tale, Star Trek, Star Wars, Gothic, Halloween, or even ceremonies officiated by a Michael Jackson impersonator. Beloved Hocus Pocus star looks unrecognizable decades after the Halloween movie premiered

More than three decades after he was skyrocketed into the spotlight by starring in the beloved Halloween movie Hocus Pocus, Omri Katz is now unrecognizable. The actor became a sensation practically overnight after he played Max Dennison in the 1993 Disney flick, the boy who accidentally unleashes the three Sanderson sisters upon Salem, Massachusetts. The film has since become a spooky season staple, and is re-watched by millions every year when fall comes around. But now, 32 years after it premiered, Omri looks pretty different than he did when he captured viewers' hearts as the sarcastic teen in Hocus Pocus. Omri acted in Hocus Pocus when he was only 16-years-old, and he quickly became a heartthrob thanks to his charming personality and handsome looks. Now 48, his long, brown locks are a lot shorter, and he's got a lot more facial hair. Omri started acting when he was only seven, starring as John Ross Ewing III in the show Dallas. He also acted in the show Eerie, Indiana and the TV movie Adventures in Dinosaur City before landing his role in Hocus Pocus. But now, 32 years after it premiered, Omri looks pretty different than he did when he captured viewers' hearts as the sarcastic teen in Hocus Pocus After that, he continued to act, starring in The John Larroquette Show, the flick Dallas: J.R. Returns, and the short film Journey Into Night. But his last role was in 2002, and after that, he left the spotlight. Now, it appears that he operates his own cannabis company and often attends conventions with other Hocus Pocus stars. He also sells personalized videos to fans on Cameo for $60. He is currently dating a woman named Michele Watters. Omri was not part of the sequel, Hocus Pocus 2, which was released in 2022 on Disney+. Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy all reprised their roles as Winifred, Sarah and Mary Sanderson. Doug Jones, who played the role of Billy Butcherson in the original film, also returned for the sequel. Back in 2022, Omri reflected on his time in the film - and revealed that he was high during many scenes of the cult classic. He told Entertainment Weekly that filming took place when he was 'at an age where he started experimenting with cannabis.' 'Let's just say, some of those scenes, I was having a good old time,' he joked. While he didn't remember which scenes specifically he was high in, he added: 'I'll tell you what I do remember: I was mis-performing and not hitting my keys or marks.' He said the director Kenny Ortega came up to him during one scene and 'practically' grabbed him by the shirt, and said, 'Are you high?' Omri said that he told the director 'no,' adding 'but of course, I was.' 'We got it done, but that was kind of a wake-up call, like, Omri, you've got to be a little more professional and make sure you hit your cues,' he said.
