Bhubaneswar: To promote
indigenous cuisine
, collector (
Bhadrak
) Dilip Routrai on Monday asked all district functionaries, including tehsildars and medical officers, to add '
palua ladu
', a local sweetmeat, to refreshment packets served to participants during different meetings.
In a letter to the district-level functionaries, Routrai wrote: "I have the pleasure to inform you that the district administration is in the process of obtaining a
GI tag
for 'PALUA LADU', a sweet delicacy unique to our district and very popular in every home."
He said it would be appropriate if you could include a piece of palua ladu in each refreshment packet served to participants in various district-level meetings concerning your departments or sections within the stipulated budgetary provision.
"By doing so, we can not only provide a taste of this local flavour but also popularise the product and give a fillip to local artisans engaged in this business. This will also help us preserve and promote this traditional delicacy as a part of 'Odia Ashmita'," he wrote.
