Economy Minister visits number of factories in Sana'a

The Economy, Industry and Investment Minister Moeen Al-Mahakri was briefed on Thursday on the work progress in one of the new pharmaceutical factories in Sana'a province.
Minister Al-Mahakri, along with Deputy Minister of Industry Ayman Al-Khalqi, listened to an explanation from the factory's administrative and technical staff about the production activity, which amounts to 50 pharmaceutical items, including dialysis solutions, tablets and liquids, in addition to 60 new items that are being finalized for inclusion in the production plan.
The Economy Minister expressed his satisfaction with the advanced level of the factory's equipment and commitment to the best pharmaceutical manufacturing standards and practices, as well as the factory's plans to develop the production process.
He also visited the Khairat "Yam" factory for the production of salsa, pulp and mango paste concentrates in western Sana'a province and reviewed the progress of construction work at the factory.
The factory officials confirmed that the installation of the production lines is expected to be completed within three months.
The Economy Minister Al-Mahakri praised the orientation of national capital to such investments that rely on local raw materials, absorb farmers' products, contribute to achieving additional value for agricultural products, and prevent depression for agricultural products in seasons of abundance.
He reviewed the progress of the production process in one of the factories producing sanitary diapers for children in western Sana'a province, and listened to an explanation from factory officials about the production capacity, which currently reaches 200,000 pieces per day and is capable of doubling production by 300 percent.
The Minister stressed that the Ministry is working on the path of localizing and protecting local industries and achieving added value to the national economy, by providing support and assistance to local factories to cover the needs of the local market and protect local products from imported products, stressing the local factories commitment to the highest quality standards and providing products at appropriate prices for citizens.
The Minister praised the responsibility and awareness shown by the national capital in moving towards productive projects and keeping pace with the plans and strategies of the government of change and construction to make a qualitative leap in local industrial activity, enhance national industrial capabilities, reduce dependence on imported products and work to push the national economy to broader horizons.

Sana'a - Saba: The two ministries of Finance, Economy, Industry, and Investment announced to the investment sector and productive families the issuance of the first joint decision by the two ministries to protect and encourage local production. A statement issued by the two ministries, a copy of which was received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), explained that the joint decision is based on Investment Law No. 3 of 1446 AH/2025 AD and other relevant laws that include important measures to encourage and protect local production. It also includes the program of the Government of Change and Construction approved by the House of Representatives, in conjunction with the implementation of approved privileges and incentives for local industries. The decision includes a ban and final prohibition on the import of certain goods and commodities that have a local equivalent that fully meets the needs of the local market with the best quality and competitive price, effective August 1, 2025. The statement indicated that the decision includes ready-made canned liquid dairy products, non-natural juices (flavored syrup), healthy mineral water, paper towels, ready-made sponges, galvanized iron poles, hollow iron pipes and tubes, flat products made of hangar iron, daggers, and belts used for whipping. The final ban and prohibition decision also includes restricting import quantities, amending customs tariffs, and collecting taxes on certain imported goods that do not have a local equivalent that covers a significant portion of market demand, starting July 1, 2025. The statement clarified that the goods subject to import quantity restrictions, customs tariff adjustments, and tax collection include "raw mango pulp, tomato paste and sauce, ready-made canned juices, soda water, ready-made refined sugar, baby diapers, ready-made canned legumes, halva, ready-made cartons, plastic pipes for water networks, women's bags and purses, packaging bags, plastic bottles and caps, and ceramic tiles." The two ministries urged importers of these goods to consult the Foreign Trade Sector at the Ministry of Economy and the Customs Authority for details and to adhere to the effective date of the ban and restrictions. They noted that there is a comprehensive program in place to manufacture the quantities required by importers through local factories and using the importers' approved brands, preserving their interests, in accordance with prior discussions with them. The new services include well-drilling, groundwater exploration, well water usage rights registration, mineral drinking water purification and bottling plants, well water sales and distribution, water transport and distribution companies, as well as drinking water purification and bottling stations ("Al-Kawthar"). The ministry emphasized that this step reflects its commitment to regulating water resource-related activities and ensuring compliance with technical and health standards, thereby enhancing water resource protection and management, safeguarding consumers, and improving oversight of provided services.
