Texas named best state for business 21 years running in Chief Executive magazine ranking
Texas is still the top state for business, at least to some of the nation's CEOs.
Chief Executive magazine has ranked Texas as the best state for business for the 21st year in a row.
The ranking is determined from an annual survey of the nation's leading CEOs. Florida and Tennessee followed Texas respectively, with California ranking last.
'Texas is where entrepreneurs can cast a vision and know they can achieve it," Gov. Greg Abbott said in a Monday announcement. "The successful CEOs I meet with credit our business-friendly climate, highly skilled and diverse workforce and exceptional quality of life across every region of our great state as Texas' top advantages. We will continue to cut red tape and partner with job-creating businesses and innovators to build a stronger, more prosperous Texas for decades to come."
Along with topping business ranking lists, Texas has also been leading the nation in job growth over the past several months. In March, Texas saw a new high with the largest labor force in the state's history at 15,778,500, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Texas Workforce Commission.
Texas' economy also outpaced the nation in the fourth quarter of 2024. Texas' real gross domestic product (GDP) grew at an annual rate of 3.5% in the fourth quarter of 2024, compared to the U.S. average of 2.4%. GDP represents the total value of all goods and services produced within the state over a specific period.
Last week, Abbott signed Senate Bill 14, known as Texas DOGE, into law. The bill created the Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office, building on recommendations from the Governor's Small Business Freedom Council to cut regulations and make stricter standards on new regulations.

Coloradans spend more time working than people in most states: Study
DENVER (KDVR) — Coloradans spend more time on the clock than people in most states in the U.S., according to a new report. Qualtrics XM, a data tool for businesses, released a report in March analyzing what percentage of the past year people spent working. The study used data from the American Time Use Survey, conducted by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, for all 50 states. Data: Income levels in Colorado among highest in the US, according to report A handful of states had fewer than 10 survey responses and were excluded from the main story, but were included in a separate list. According to the report, people in these states spent the highest percentage of their past year working: Utah: 25.17% Mississippi: 23.89% North Carolina: 23.51% Alabama: 23.44% Colorado: 22.95% According to the report, Utahns work an average of eight hours and 29 minutes per day, and their time on the clock accounts for over a quarter of the year. Utah and Mississippi were the only states where the average workday exceeded eight hours. Colorado ranked at No. 5, with an average workday lasting seven hours and 44 minutes. After a year with 260 workdays, Coloradans work an average of 120,617 minutes. Report: Colorado has one of the best economies in US despite shortfalls In the report, Qualtrics XM noted several reasons why people in some states work more hours than others. 'In states like Colorado, where housing and general cost-of-living expenses are high, workers may need to work more to afford their lifestyles,' the report states. Other contributing factors include low unemployment rates and a high demand for labor, low wages, industry influences and prevalence of part-time work. Is it safe? Plans to reuse fracking water amid growing water shortage move forward
MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- Amid the growing water shortage in West Texas, the Texas Legislature has given oil and gas companies the opportunity to reuse wastewater created during the oil fracking process. State Rep. Drew Darby's House Bill 49 is now on the way Gov. Greg Abbott's desk for a final signature. Research & Development Manager at Texas Pacific Water Resources, Adrianne Lopez, guarantees Texans the water is safe for reuse. 'The contaminants things that are like that are biological or heavy metals, those have all been removed,' she said. 'The things that would make a water be considered dangerous have been removed.' Her team has worked for years on several studies to ensure the water can be used for irrigation and building projects.
