Bride's heartache as groom dies by suicide four days after wedding
A US bride has been left heartbroken after her new husband died by suicide after returning home from their 'perfect' honeymoon – before sending her flowers from the grave.
Isabel Coles, from Southern Pines, North Carolina, married her husband Christopher in September last year after meeting on a dating app just 18 months earlier.
The 32-year-old said they were 'insanely happy' together, and after tying the knot, they chose to head to a beachfront music festival for their honeymoon.
But just 1 day after the music fans returned home, Isabel's 'happily ever after' came to an abrupt and traumatic end, when her army veteran husband took his own life at the age of just 28.
Tragically, the pair had been husband and wife for just 4 days.
'In the morning, he was folding laundry and things were a little weird,' Isabel recalled.
'I asked him what was wrong, and he said 'nothing'. Then he went downstairs and tried to get out.
'I stood at the front door and asked what was going on. He got out and started heading towards the woods.'
Isabel said she ran upstairs to get some shoes, but by the time she got to the front door, he was no where to be seen.
With the help of Christopher's parents, they went to look for him, but the next morning his father found him dead in the woods.
'I was shocked, I was devastated. He was great during our honeymoon, we had a great time,' she said.
Just days earlier, the couple had married at a courthouse, and were planning a big ceremony to celebrate with family and friends the following May.
Isabel said during their honeymoon at the Sea. Hear. Now Festival at Asbury Park in New Jersey, the pair were 'so insanely happy and in love'.
After his death, Isabel was overcome with guilt for not recognising any signs her husband was struggling.
'My husband was very successful and very driven and motivated and he was such a good person, so looking back I think, 'Were there signs?'' she explained.
'He was very hard on himself, always pushing himself. There were no signs, it did take me really off guard.
'After he passed, I got an overwhelming amount of messages from people saying we looked so happy and that they always wanted what we had.'
In an unexpected turn of events three months after he died, Isabel was stunned to receive a bouquet of flowers on Valentines Day.
'In February I got a flower delivery from him and I freaked out,' she said. 'I contacted the florist and they said he ordered the flowers in September.'
The mum-of-one shared her story online in a viral video which has gathered almost 40 million views.
Isabel claims some commenters have slammed her for sharing her husband's story, with some cruel trolls going as far as to blame her for his death.
She now aims to raise awareness about mental health and is training to run the Chicago Marathon in October 2025 to support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
'Everyone wants a reason why,' she said.
'No one believes that a smart, handsome, successful man who has a great life wakes up one day and decides to end his life.
'He obviously was fighting demons and no one knew about it.'
While Isabel is trying to find light in the tragedy of losing Christopher, she said she struggles with him being gone.
'There's a part of me that is gone forever,' she explained.
'There's still so much that I'm dealing with that makes me feel like I'm reliving the moment over and over again which is very tough.
'There are things I do blame myself for but I don't think we were unhappy.
'He didn't do it to hurt me, he wouldn't do anything to hurt me. For whatever reason he probably thought that people would be better off without him.'

King of the Hill star Jonathan Joss fought 'so hard to stay alive' after he had been shot
Jonathan Joss "struggled so hard to stay alive" after he had been shot. The actor - who was best known for voicing the part of John Redcorn on the animated TV series King of the Hill - was killed in a shooting on Saturday (31.05.25) in San Antonio, and now his husband Tristan Kern de Gonzales has recalled his last few moments. He told People: "Everything happened so quickly. Everything was very close range and due to the severity and the trauma of the various head wounds, I knew that there was no hope of saving Jonathan's physical form, and he was struggling so hard, trying to stay alive. It was just really, really close range." Tristan urged Jonathan that he "didn't need to keep fighting" as he lay dying, but claimed that the alleged gunman Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja was just "laughing" at them throughout the ordeal. He said: "I held my husband's face together as best I could, and I told him how much I loved him, and that none of this was his fault. I told him he needed to cross over easy. He didn't need to keep fighting. "I told him that no matter what, and in some way, shape, or form, we'll always be together, and he'll always be my husband. "[The alleged gunman] was laughing. He mocked me for telling my husband that I loved him and used the same homophobic slurs. "The flashbacks are very, very intense, and they affect my whole body." Police have said that Alvarez, 56, admitted to shooting and killing the Parks and Recreation actor and he was released on a $200,000 bond on Monday. Just days ago, Tristan revealed that the whole incident had taken place at the site of their former home, which burned down earlier this year. In a Facebook post, he explained: "My husband Jonathan Joss and I were involved in a shooting while checking the mail at the site of our former home. That home was burned down after over two years of threats from people in the area who repeatedly told us they would set it on fire. We reported these threats to law enforcement multiple times and nothing was done. "Throughout that time we were harassed regularly by individuals who made it clear they did not accept our relationship. Much of the harassment was openly homophobic. "When we returned to the site to check our mail we discovered the skull of one of our dogs and its harness placed in clear view. This caused both of us severe emotional distress. We began yelling and crying in response to the pain of what we saw. "While we were doing this a man approached us. He started yelling violent homophobic slurs at us. He then raised a gun from his lap and fired. "Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were grieving. We were standing side by side. When the man fired Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life. "Jonathan is my husband. He gave me more love in our time together than most people ever get. We were newlyweds. We picked Valentines Day. We were in the process of looking for a trailer and planning our future. "He was murdered by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other. "I was with him when he passed. I told him how much he was loved. (sic)"

Jonathan Joss 'was the victim of a hate crime'
Jonathan Joss' husband feels the actor was the victim of a "hate crime". The 'King of the Hill' star was shot dead in San Antonio over the weekend, and Tristan Kern de Gonzales, his husband, has rubbished the police's suggestion that the murder wasn't related to Jonathan's sexual orientation. In a video posted on TikTok, he said: "I'm gonna keep talking about, not only what happened on the day of my husband's death, but also, we're gonna share just everything about Jonathan and everything that he stood for." Tristan disputed the outcome of a police investigation, and insisted that he "won't be silenced". He said: "We won't stop talking about this. I'm not going to let the San Antonio Police Department or anyone else silence the fact that this was a hate crime, and I just won't be silenced. "I may not be as loud as my husband, but I carry his strength with me. I won't stop fighting for what I know is right and for my love." Jonathan was shot dead on Saturday (31.05.25), aged 59, and Tristan announced his passing via a post on social media. He wrote on Facebook: "My husband Jonathan Joss and I were involved in a shooting while checking the mail at the site of our former home. Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez has been charged with first-degree murder.
