, Himachal, and Chandigarh, K D Himachali, during a press conference on Saturday, supported the
Waqf Amendment Bill 2025
and enumerated its merits.
He said the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 aims to update the Waqf Act 1995 to address the problems in the management of waqf properties. The proposed changes focus on certain issues, such as removing the deficiencies of the previous act and enhancing the efficiency of Waqf Boards, updating the definitions of waqf, improving the registration process, and increasing the role of technology in managing waqf records, he added.
The Muslim Waqf (Repeal) Bill 2025 aims to repeal the archaic Muslim Waqf Act 1923, which is no longer applicable to modern India. The repeal will ensure uniform rules for the management of waqf properties under the Waqf Act 1995. It will improve transparency and accountability in waqf management and eliminate confusion and legal contradictions caused by the old law, he said.
He said by addressing long-standing issues such as litigation and lack of judicial monitoring, the bill seeks to create a more structured and accountable framework. The major changes include redefining what constitutes a waqf, improving the survey and registration process, empowering govt monitoring, and ensuring inclusiveness by including non-Muslim members and women in waqf-related bodies. These provisions are an important step towards modernising waqf property management in India, he claimed.
On this occasion, Muslim National Forum regional co-convenor Sabir Hussain, Punjab state co-convenor Gulzar Khan, Mahmood Salmani, Noor Alam, and Rehman were present.

From there, he visited TDP senior leader and former TDP convener Subbaiah in Kandukuri Palli. Several issues were brought to the attention of the former minister. He said that justice will definitely be done to everyone. After facing criticism over her recent video, she removed all content from her Instagram, including her reels and posts. Why was she arrested? What is the entire row? A day later, on May 15, Panoli issued an apology on X, writing: 'I do hereby tender my unconditional apology. Whatever was put are my personal feelings and I never intentionally wanted to hurt anybody, so if anybody is hurt, I'm sorry for the same. I expect co-operation and understanding. Henceforth, I will be cautious in my public post. Again, please accept my apologies.' Her comments led to massive backlash, especially from members of the Muslim community in India and abroad, who accused her of making offensive statements about Islam and the Prophet Muhammad. A complaint was lodged at a police station in Kolkata, and an FIR was filed against her under charges related to promoting enmity and hurting religious sentiments. Contribute now New Delhi: An important witness in the case pertaining to the murder of journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh has complained to the special court about receiving threats from people who told him not to identify the accused. The witness, a resident of Belagavi received the threats over a phone call on May 28 and submitted a written complaint on the same day, reported Deccan Herald. 'The witness received a phone call where he was threatened not to identify the accused. He filed a complaint before the court. Though he was disturbed and upset, he testified before the court on Thursday,' a source told the newspaper. A copy of the complaint and a memo by the special public prosecutor were submitted to the court. The witness who has been threatened was crucial in identifying the accused and the place where the alleged conspiracy was hatched to murder Lankesh. Well-known journalist and editor Lankesh, a household name for readers in Karnataka because of her sharp writing and bold views, was shot dead at her residence in Bengaluru late on September 5, 2017. She was editor of the weekly Lankesh Patrike – a magazine that has been described as an 'anti-establishment' publication – and had come under attack for her views against the communal politics of the Sangh parivar in Karnataka. The chargesheet in her murder case had said that the assassination was an 'organised crime' carried out by people associated with the Sanatan Sanstha, an extremist right-wing Hindutva organisation.
