Glasgow rock star's comeback gig after battling cancer
Glasgow-born rock singer Davey Pattison is making a powerful return to the stage with The Davey Pattison Band at Ivory Blacks, Glasgow, on Friday, June 13, in what is set to be an emotional gig.
Now based in Paisley, Davey is best known for his work with the American rock band Gamma, fronted by guitarist Ronnie Montrose, and as the lead singer of the Robin Trower Band.

Over a storied career spanning decades, he also recorded solo albums and contributed vocals to high-profile TV adverts for companies like Mattel, Coca-Cola, and Taco Bell during his 40 years living in California.
But in early 2024, Davey's world was turned upside down when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
After undergoing 20 sessions of radiotherapy at Glasgow's Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, he was given the all-clear - only to be admitted days later to Paisley's Royal Alexandra Hospital with confusion and vision loss.
Following weeks of tests, he was transferred to the neurosurgical unit at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where it was revealed that he had suffered a lesion on his brain.
Davey said: 'At first, I thought this must be a cancerous brain tumour caused by the radiation therapy I had for prostate cancer.
"It seemed to me that I was in hospital for an eternity and not knowing what was causing my symptoms really scared me.
"It frightened me more than being told I had cancer.
"At one point, it crossed my mind that I was going to die."
After months of recovery in hospital, Davey's speech and general health began to improve.
Finally, in February, a scan revealed the lesion had completely disappeared.
After being given the all clear, one of the first things he did was book a rehearsal room to run through a set of songs with his band.
Davey said: "Although the first rehearsal tired me out, by the time I had gone through another couple of sessions with the band, it was as if I'd never been away.
"Now, I can't wait to get back on stage at Ivory Blacks.
"After everything I've been through, I'm raring to go and it will be a special night for me."

As well as rehearsing to get ready for the gig, Davey also paid tribute to the doctors who helped him during his time of need.
He said: "I've had a nightmare year health-wise, but if I've learned anything from all the time I spent in hospital it's that we are so lucky to have the NHS.
"I cannot praise the doctors, nurses, and other staff enough – they are very special people.
"They are a different class and I won't have a bad word said about the NHS.'
Tickets for the Davey Pattinson Band's upcoming gig at Ivory Backs, featuring support from the Lynsey Dolan Band, are available to purchase now from the Tickets Scotland website.

Over 2,000 people from Lanarkshire languishing on NHS waiting list to see psychologist
Freedom of Information Requests revealed that some 22,880 across Scotland are currently on a psychologist waiting list. Over 2,000 people from Lanarkshire are languishing on an NHS waiting list to see a psychologist. Freedom of Information Requests revealed that some 22,880 across Scotland are currently on a psychologist waiting list. Dr Pavan Srireddy, vice-chair of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in Scotland, said: 'While concerning, these figures come as no surprise. The unprecedented demand for services and critical gaps in the mental health workforce is already leading to unacceptably long waits for mental health care and treatment. 'Working on the frontline we see a postcode lottery of specialist mental health services across the country, but our patients deserve so much better than this. 'Alarmingly, waiting times may be even higher because the Scottish Government don't consider the rise in people seeking help for neurodevelopmental conditions such as Autism or ADHD.' NHS Lothian had the longest list, with 4,287 patients waiting to be seen. This was followed by Greater Glasgow and Clyde on 3,733 and Tayside on 2,821. Grampian had 2,736 patients waiting, Forth Valley had 2,729 and Lanarkshire had 2,097. Scottish Labour Mental Health spokesperson Paul Sweeney said 'These shocking figures lay bare the true scale of Scotland's mental health crisis and the SNP's woeful failure to deliver the support needed. 'Behind these figures are people who have been failed in their darkest hour by an NHS that is no longer truly free and available at the point of need. 'NHS staff are working tirelessly to keep overstretched mental health services going, but they are being let down by an SNP government more interested in fiddling the figures than fixing the waiting lists. 'Scots needs NHS mental health services that they can count on and we need a change in government to deliver that.' A Scottish Government spokesperson said: 'The latest Public Health Scotland data shows that more than 74,000 people started treatment in psychological therapies last year. 'One in two patients are starting treatment within three weeks of referral and there was a significant increase of 7.5 per cent of patients starting treatment in the last quarter. 'This has been made possible by the hard work of our psychology services workforce which has increased by 61.8 per cent in the last decade. 'We want to ensure that all people in Scotland can access the right help, at the right time to support their mental and physical health. 'We continue to work with NHS Boards that are not on track to meet the standard that 90% of patients begin treatment within 18 weeks of referral.' *Don't miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire. Helen Flanagan shares scary health condition as lips turn numb and swollen
Former Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan has revealed the her recent health scare as she revealed she has discovered an allergy to cherries, which left her throat itchy and lips numb Former soap actress Helen Flanagan has shared her recent health scare, after discovering she is allergic to something she 'never knew' about – until now. The former Coronation Street star, who is best known for her role as Rosie Webster on the soap, shared her surprise with fans in a candid video on her Instagram story – as she was confronted with strange symptoms after going about her daily business. Wearing a blue jumper and minimal makeup in the video, the mum-of-three, 34, tells her fans: "So I've literally just picked up the kids from school, did the food shop today and Delilah was like, 'Oh Mummy I want some cherries'. So..." Helen, who recently wowed in risqué lingerie snaps, is then interrupted by one of her three little ones as she turns and tells them: "Hang on a second, baby" before the tot can be heard in the background saying: "Mama!" "So I erm..." she then cuts the camera and restarts the video, explaining to fans: "So yeah Delilah did the food shop and she was like, 'Oh Mummy I want some cherries'. "They were just playing in the garden so I just cut some up and I thought, 'Oh these cherries look nice' so I just had one and, honestly, straight away I was like..." she then coughs before she says while rubbing her throat: "This is really itchy here, my throat started itching and, like, my lips have literally, like they fill like numb and really, really swollen. "But I never knew that I was allergic to cherries," she says with a cough before the camera then cuts out. According to the NHS, symptoms of an allergic reaction can include swollen eyes, lips, mouth or throat amongst a string of other symptoms. The website also advises to dial 999 if "your lips, mouth, throat or tongue suddenly become swollen". The star's health scare comes after her recent split from her boyfriend Robbie Talbot after a year of dating. The mum-of-three had hinted at wanting a child with the former footballer, but has since had a "change of heart," according to friends. The pair were living together at Helen's stunning Bolton mansion but, Helen later revealed Robbie had moved out as she felt it was the best move for her three children, who 'missed' their dad Scott Sinclair. Helen and Scott split in 2022 after 13 years together. However, it was later reported Helen and Robbie "wanted different things in life". Meanwhile, the star also recently opened up on her split from her long-term partner Scott, with whom she shares her three children with. Helen said last year on Charlotte Dawson's Naughty Corner podcast: "We don't like each other." She added: "I still love him very much, I care about him deeply, but we don't like each other. We don't like each other at all, we don't get on. I do know that Scott—he'd never admit it—cares about me too, and he does love me."
