2025 Volkswagen Amarok ute bringing cheaper petrol option

2025 Volkswagen Amarok ute bringing cheaper petrol option

Perth Now5 hours ago

The 2025 Volkswagen Amarok TSI452 Aventura – the only petrol-powered variant in the German brand's dual-cab 4×4 ute lineup – will become cheaper as part of a range-wide MY25 upgrade coming soon.
Currently priced in line with the TDI600 Aventura flagship at $82,990 before on-road costs, the MY25 TSI452 Aventura will be repositioned $3000 lower at $79,990 plus on-roads, in the otherwise all-diesel Amarok lineup.
That will make the TSI452, which comes with a Ford Mustang-sourced 2.3-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 222kW of power and 452Nm of torque, just $1000 more expensive than the TDI600 PanAmericana ($78,990 plus on-roads) powered by a 184kW/600Nm 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel.

There are no other price changes for the updated MY25 Amarok range, pricing for which appeared in some industry price lists earlier this month.
MY25 Volkswagen Amarok dual-cab pricing (before on-road costs) is as follows:
However, CarExpert understands the new TDI500 10 Deserts Edition, pricing for which was previously announced at $68,490 before on-roads, will receive a much sharper permanent national drive-away price.
Full specification details will be announced by Volkswagen Australia in the coming weeks ahead of first customer deliveries. Supplied Credit: CarExpert
'The Amarok Aventura TSI452 is the best handling driver's ute in the market, and we know there is more opportunity for it in Australia,' said the acting general manager of corporate communications at Volkswagen Group Australia, Daniel DeGasperi.
'The Amarok has been a 'V6 diesel' leader for several years, and we are taking on an opportunity to position the 2.3-litre turbo-petrol Aventura in between the PanAmericana TDI600 and Aventura TDI600.
'We'll confirm exact updates and pricing in due course, but for now the MY24 TSI452 can be purchased for $79,990 drive away while stocks last – a significant saving on the usual $82,990 plus on-road costs manufacturer's recommended retail price.'
Last month Volkswagen announced drive-away deals on MY24-plated Amarok variants until the end of June, amounting to a discount of over $6000 for the base Core TDI405 and discounts of up to $9000 for high-grade Aventura and PanAmericana vehicles. Supplied Credit: CarExpert
Until June 30, the MY24 Amarok Core is available for $53,990 drive-away, the MY24 TDI500 Life from $59,490 drive-away, the MY23 TDI500 Style from $66,990 drive-away, the MY24 TDI500 Style from $69,740 drive-away, the MY24 TDI600 Style from $73,740 drive-away, the MY24 TDI600 PanAmericana from $76,990 drive-away, and both the MY24 Aventura TSI452 and TDI600 from $79,990 drive-away.
Prior to that in February, Volkswagen applied similar drive-away deals to MY23 and MY24 examples of its most popular Amarok Style variants.
Until March 31, MY23 Style vehicles were offered with nationwide drive-away pricing of $66,990 for the TDI500 and $70,990 for the TDI600, while MY24 Style utes were available for $69,740 drive-away (TDI500) and $73,740 drive-away (TDI600).
And based on a Sydney postcode, the Amarok Aventura TSI452 and TDI600 were both priced from $90,677 drive-away, and the TSI452 was also offered with an additional $3000 discount until the end of March. Volkswagen Amarok TDI500 10 Deserts Edition Credit: CarExpert
At the time, Volkswagen Australia said it had strong supply of the most expensive PanAmericana and Aventura variants for the first time since the second-generation Amarok's launch in 2023, and both Aventuras were also offered with a 3.99 per cent per annum comparison rate when purchased via Volkswagen Choice finance.
Entry-level Core and Life grades were also offered with what were described as a 'large fleet discount' for ABN holders.
It remains to be seen whether similar incentives will be offered for the MY25 Amarok range, or whether the TSI452 variant's lower, now sub-$80,000 list price will eventually also become a drive-away price.
Last year, Volkswagen sold 8400 Amaroks in Australia, up 26.8 per cent on the previous year, making it the German brand's best-seller ahead of the T-Roc small SUV (7777 sales).
However, Amarok sales declined by almost 36 per cent in the first quarter of this year, when just 1429 examples were sold – a drop in the ocean compared to 13,226 deliveries of its top-selling Ford Ranger cousin in the same period. Supplied Credit: CarExpert
Volkswagen Australia acknowledged that the takeup rate of just five per cent for the single high-spec TSI452 variant was lower than expected, but says it's happy with the sales performance of its Ranger-based ute overall.
'The new-generation Amarok last year successfully lifted Volkswagen's ute sales performance to a level not seen in the preceding half decade, and the Amarok will continue to go from strength to strength with MY25 upgrades followed by the next generation Walkinshaw in 2026,' said Mr DeGasperi.
There is no update on a plug-in hybrid version of the Amarok, based on the newly launched Ranger PHEV which is produced in South Africa (rather than Thailand) alongside all Australian versions of the Amarok.

2026 Ford Ranger Super Duty: Initial pricing and specs detailed for more capable ute

The 2026 Ford Ranger Super Dutywill start from $82,990 before on-road costs – before a tray is fitted – when it goes on sale in local showrooms in early 2026. The Ranger Super Duty – using the Super Duty name applied to the most capable Ford trucks sold in North America – comes with the highest towing and payload capabilities of any Ranger offered to date. It gives the Ranger – the best-selling vehicle in Australia for the past two years – a uniquely capable option against key rival Toyota HiLux and newcomers like the Kia Tasman and BYD Shark 6. Hundreds of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Get the experts on your side and score a great deal. Browse now. Ford has announced pricing for the Single Cab-Chassis, Super Cab-Chassis and Double Cab-Chassis body styles which will be the first Super Duty models on sale. The company has already confirmed the Ranger Super Duty Pickup and XLT Super Duty will follow on, joining the initial cab/chassis models in Ford Australia showrooms in late 2026. "The Ranger Super Duty project was about pushing the boundaries of what a mid-size truck can achieve," Drew O'Shannassy, Ranger Super Duty program supervisor said in a statement. "We focused relentlessly on core capability – increasing GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass), GAWR (Gross Axle Weight Rating), and towing capacity – while ensuring the truck remains incredibly durable and easy to operate in challenging environments. "The unique calibration of the V6 diesel ensures that crucial torque is available right where our customers need it for heavy loads, while meeting modern emissions standards." The cab/chassis pricing doesn't include a tray, with Ford offering three different types: a galvanised steel tray, body colour steel tray or a matte black steel tray. The Ranger Super Duty Single Cab-Chassis will be $82,990 before on-road costs with an official licensed Ford tray adding between $7121 to $9376 including fitment and GST. That brings the total to between $90,111-$92,266 including a fitted tray before on-road costs, with the Super Duty Single Cab-Chassis offering 299mm ground clearance and payload of up to 1982kg. The Ranger Super Duty Super Cab-Chassis – offering more space behind the front seats – will be priced from $86,480, with trays priced from $6296 to $8551 including fitment and GST. This sees the Super Duty Super Cab-Chassis priced between $92,776 and $95,351 including a fitted tray before on-road costs, with 297mm ground clearance and up to 1896kg payload. The Ranger Super Duty Double Cab-Chassis will be $89,990 before on-roads – only $450 less than the Ranger Raptor list price – with trays priced from $5966 to $8166 including fitment. That brings the Super Duty Double Cab-Chassis up to $95,956 with the cheapest tray and $98,156 before on-road costs with the most expensive tray added. It comes with 295mm ground clearance and a payload of up to 1825kg. All three models have a 1710mm track width – matching that of the Ranger Raptor, which is 90mm wider than the rest of the Ranger lineup – and a braked towing capacity of 4500kg. They also have a front axle load rating of 1900kg and a rear axle load rating of 2800kg – compared to a best of 1450kg front and 1959kg rear on other model grades including Ranger XLT dual-cab. Ford says it has upgraded the cooling system for the Super Duty to improve performance and reliability with its increased towing as well as its higher 4500kg GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass) and 8000kg GCM (Gross Combined Mass). The size increase also gives the Super Duty 50mm higher water wading capability, with all three trim levels announced so far boasting 850mm water wading. The Super Duty lineup will use the 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel engine already offered in other model grades, making 154kW at 3250rpm and 600Nm at 1750rpm – the same torque figure, but down 30kW in power. Arctic White is included in the list price, with Seismic Tan – unique to Super Duty models – Shadow Black, Command Grey and Aluminium Metallic available for an additional $750. Ford said it will add Traction Green to the options list in late 2026 when the Double-Cab pickup and XLT Super Duty variant arrive. Ford will release more details, including full dimensions, ahead of the Ranger Super Duty's early 2026 arrival in local dealers.
