SALTY PEARL (9) ran on well at Bendigo first-up and will be much fitter for this. PRINCE TYCOON (8) has trialled well and should be prominent from the perfect draw. ALZARO (10) finished off well on debut and will be better for the experience.

MARKET MOVER: Prince Tycoon 4.20 – $2.90.

FERNAO (6) is racing in consistent form and can go one better than his narrow defeat at Flemington. GOLDEN CRUSADER (2) tried hard behind the in-form Immediacy at Mornington and has a good 2400m record. ZIRYAB (1) was solid in the Warrnambool Cup and gets back onto firmer footing. DIWALI (9) won easily at Moe and could sneak a place in this.

RACE 3: 1:15PM MANHARI HANDICAP (2000m)
One of the harder races on the card but MR BUSTER (19) could be ready to win after two excellent efforts over shorter trips this time in. FORTUNE (5) has drawn poorly but his last run at Caulfield was good and could show up with a little bit of luck. PREFERENTIAL (16) wasn't disgraced over a longer trip at Flemington and has drawn well. OFF HIS ROCA (13) was sound with a big weight at Warrnambool and will be fitter.
SUGGESTED BET: Mr Buster each-way.
MARKET MOVER: Nearing Liberty $12 – $6.

AHHA AHHA (10) is racing well and could measure up.
SUGGESTED BET: Madiyya to win.
MARKET MOVER: Madiyya $4.20 – $3.

SUGGESTED BET: Mary Eliza to win.
MARKET MOVER: Supernima $13 – $8.
â– â– â– â– â–
RESET THE JAZZ (7) improved significantly when run down late at Mornington second-up and should have every chance here. ANGRY SKIES (5) was too good in the Warracknabeal Cup and can run well again. TOO MUCH CAVIAR (6) will be much fitter for his honest first-up run at Flemington. AMBASSADORIAL (9) will be fitter for two excellent efforts for new trainer Alex Rae.
SUGGESTED BET: Reset The Jazz each-way.
MARKET MOVER: Saban $3.90 – $3.60.
â– â– â– â– â–
Another hard race but happy to have something each-way on the former Singapore galloper LIM'S SALTORO (5), who has a good record and has trialled well. WAR MACHINE (8) has drawn poorly but drops in class on a strong first-up second. REGAL VOW (13) is on the fresh side but should be finishing strongly. Veteran gelding Front Page is likely to be fighting to the finish in Saturday's Group 2 Moreton Cup at Eagle Farm

If Front Page is judged on his genetics, then the veteran gelding is likely to be fighting to the finish in Saturday's Group 2 Moreton Cup (1200m) at Eagle Farm. The Matt Dale -trained sprinter is the $3.50 favourite in the race that offers the winner a golden ticket into the upcoming $3m Stradbroke Handicap (1400m). But Front Page is lucky to be even in this world after his late mother Stacey Lee suffered horrific leg injuries in the paddock nine years ago. 'She was in foal and just rolled too close to the fence, got her legs stuck in the fence and sort of shredded both her back legs,' the eight-year-old's part-owner Paul Duryea recalled. 'It exposed all the tendons and everything. We got her to Shepparton and they said to put her down, we couldn't save her. 'She was in-foal with Front Page. We bought her as a weanling so we had her all our life and raised her and she was super tough. 'We found a lady, Suzanne Royal at Asscher Park near Violet Town, who was a vet nurse and she took her on and did a remarkable job in fixing her. 'She not only came good with barely any scarring but she kept her foal as well. 'Every one of her progeny has won. I strapped her nearly every start of her life and she was a very good racemare. 'She could run times that Front Page can't run. She hurt her knee at Caulfield one day early in her career and she was never really the same, even though she won five races.' • Queensland Oaks tips, runner-by-runner form analysis Stacey Lee also survived floodwaters at broodmare farm Noorilim Park near Nagambie, Victoria in November, 2022 so her toughness and tenacity are undeniable. 'They put her foal (Corningstone) in a boat and Stacey Lee actually swam a kilometre by the boat to get out of the floods so she's had a few dramas,' Duryea said. 'Not only did she save herself but she saved her foal too. Unfortunately about six months later Stacey Lee got crook and we couldn't save her, she had to be put down. 'What Stacey Lee has done for us is unbelievable.' In an amusing sidenote to what could have been a tragic story, the rescued foal was named after the movie character Veronica Corningstone, portrayed by Christina Applegate in the blockbuster hit comedy Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. Fast-forward to Saturday and Front Page, who has won $3.4m in prizemoney, has a golden opportunity to continue her mum's legacy in the $300,000 Moreton Cup. Front Page and @G1TySchil go back-to-back in the #TheKosciuszko! 🙌 — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) October 14, 2023 He is also accepted for the Listed Bob Charley AO Stakes (1100m) at Randwick on Saturday but Duryea said he would instead likely race in Brisbane where Tim Clark will ride. Asked about potentially running in the Stradbroke, Duryea said: 'If he was to win (the Moreton Cup) then we would consider it but it depends on how he pulls up. 'But, touch wood, he hasn't had any dramas or niggles for 12 months or more now. 'But being an automatic entry for the winner, we would consider the Straddie and hopefully we get that option.' Goulburn's Dale took over the training of Front Page from Duryea's dad Geoff in mid-2023. The winner of seven races from 28 starts, Front Page has twice placed in Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m), including a runner-up behind Private Harry on March 22 at Rosehill Gardens. He finished a disappointing 11th in the $5m The Quokka (1200m) in Perth in late April but Dale said the gelding didn't appreciate running 'the Melbourne way'.

Oscar Piastri lauded as former F1 driver declared the ‘floodgates have opened' on his title charge

An 'insanely calm' Oscar Piastri has been hailed as having one of the coolest heads Formula 1 ever seen as one former driver declared the 'floodgates have opened' for the Australian star in his title quest. After taking his fifth grand prix win from the opening nine rounds this season in the Spanish Grand Prix to extend his lead in the world championship, former F1 driver Jolyon Palmer said he could not have predicted the 'step up' the McLaren star would make to become the championship favourite. Palmer said Piastri had turned his on-track weaknesses into his strengths this year, which had been headlined by his 'standout improvement' in qualifying. The former Renault driver-turned-commentator said no other driver had made a bigger step over one lap this year and Piastri's maiden pole position in China had opened the 'floodgates' after a qualifying 'whitewash' from his teammate Lando Norris last season. 'Last year, Oscar's racecraft set him out from his rivals and gave him wins that he had to work for,' Palmer wrote in his column on 'After all, he only scored his first ever pole position in China this year, so he had to come from behind to seal his wins last season. 'There was no doubting Oscar's racecraft, but to mount a title challenge he'd need to improve his fundamental pace in both qualifying and the race. 'Qualifying pace has been the biggest standout improvement from him this year. In fact if you look at the whole field, no driver has made a bigger step over one lap. 'He's gone from ending last season 20-4 down to teammate Lando in a relative qualifying whitewash last year, to leading the duo's head-to-head form this campaign, having taken his fourth pole in Barcelona on Saturday, compared to Norris' two. 'It's fair to say the floodgates have opened after his China success.' Piastri's victory in Barcelona extended his lead in the championship to 10 points over Norris and also equalled the record for the most wins by an Australian driver in a single F1 season The Melbourne-born racer's cool demeanour on track continues to earn plaudits as he mounts his championship charge. Palmer said Piastri rarely made 'pressure mistakes' and described him as possibly the calmest head he had ever seen in F1. 'Oscar also seems to have the calmest head, certainly that I can remember, in Formula 1,' Palmer wrote. 'It's still early stages in his career and we haven't yet seen him under title-deciding pressures – that'll come later this year – but the man is insanely calm with whatever is going on around him. 'Kimi Raikkonen was known as the Iceman in Formula 1, but I've even seen him more animated than Oscar. 'This can only be strength to be able to stay so composed – I've yet to see him make pressure mistakes and you can't imagine him squandering points due to red mist, as Max Verstappen did on Sunday.' While there are still 15 rounds remaining in the F1 season, Palmer had no doubt Piastri had the 'makeup of a champion'. 'He's not been perfect this season. In Melbourne he was unlucky to lose a heap of points going off in the rain, but he was napping for the Imola start when he got passed by Verstappen, and was a bit scrappy in Monaco too,' Palmer wrote. 'There have been enough chances for Lando to stay in the hunt, and the title battle remains close, with Oscar just 10 points to the good. 'But from what I've seen so far, Oscar absolutely has the makeup of a champion, in a season where he's turned his weaknesses into strengths.'
